So uplifting to see your open mindedness and willingness to expand your horizons. Very positive, and lovely to see your smiles and gently bobbing heads. That happens to us all when we listen to Marvin Gaye. It can be sad but we smile at the beauty of it.

Smooth, deep, moving, soulful, spiritual, beautiful, meaningful. Those are just a few words that come to mind when I listen to this great song. It came out in 1971 which was my senior year of high school. It was when the military was drafting young men to go fight in the Vietnam War. This song brings me back to that time. It’s so sad that Marvin’s life came to an end much too soon. He was one of a kind. May he RIP.

The studio album has stunning musical and vocal arrangements. The album hit with the power of a lightning strike. A great example of the tremendous storehouse of writing, singing, playing, arranging, producing and engineering that was Motown in the “old days”.

1972 was rough. The Vietnam War was at its depth, and the feeling tone here in the US was almost as low it is now. More anger, less peace. Marvin turned from "Sexual Healing" to be -as we say now - "woke". This , "Mercy, Mercy Me (The Ecology)" were out with tunes like "Trouble Man", "The World Is A Ghetto" and many more. That was a precursor of Right Now, and the reaction to Mr. Floyd's heinous murder. The were movements, there were riots, but a bare twitch to the mobilization of today. None of this is new, more the pity.

Next listen to his "Ecology" song. He was so far ahead of his time and his songs are still relevant today, sadly. He did what he could to change the world but his life was cut short by his own father :( Remember the day I heard he had been shot and it hurt; just like the day John Lennon was shot.

I love Marvin Gaye. I thought you would have copyright problems with him, so I never requested him. But a long time ago when my alarm clock would go off with it's beep beep beep, my first words would be "Oh F***" then I set it to play Marvin Gaye's Let's Get It On, and waking up to his voice would make me smile first..........then "Oh F***" Great request.

His boss, Barry Gordy, didn’t want Gaye to go anywhere near this material because it was controversial to speak about racial oppression and because Gordy had made a fortune from Gaye’s light, romantic songs. Marvin won and now Motown is richer for it not only financially but in their artistic legacy.

Marvin Gaye "Sexual Healing." 😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍I played this over and over when it came out...record or tape. Watching the video was a rare thing...early 80s. That was a huge comeback hit just before he died. 😢😢😢 His death was domestic violence, not in the traditional sense, but at the hands of his father at their home in Los Angeles (i lived an hour north). You never know what people endure in their family, mental illness, etc. I don't remember all the details. Very sad day.

You guys should listen to the studio album version. No, you MUST. This is great but the other is greater. This was written in times as turbulent as these days are. Funny, your backup "what's go'n on" vocals filled in at the right spot for never having heard this song.
