This song is based on a novel and movie by the same name. I raised my boys on Metallica and had a proud mom moment in the theaters when we went to see the first zombieland and this song was playing for the intro and my then young song (like maybe 8) stsrted screaming in the quiet theater “mommy mommy that’s Metallica!” And all the people started laughing. I got my best mom moment though when I took them as adults to see them live for their first time in 2018! I’ve seen them several times but it was their first. My youngest who was about 18 then literally bounced out of the arena jumping up and down screaming “ you’re the best fucking mom ever” ❤

It's a song about war, referencing a poem by John Donne For Whom The Bell Tolls: No man is an island, Entire of itself. Each is a piece of the continent, A part of the main. If a clod be washed away by the sea, Europe is the less. As well as if a promontory were. As well as if a manor of thine own Or of thine friend’s were. Each man’s death diminishes me, For I am involved in mankind. Therefore, send not to know For whom the bell tolls, It tolls for thee.

But the word on I like some of there songs not all but the biggest problem I have with this band is that the greed that they pushed out because they were like we're losing money because of sharing and had the popular sharing sites at the time shut down and that's why you reactors have such a hard time with music and movies and TV shows without having to jump through a whole bunch of hoops to get them on and you can blame the drummer I think his name's Lars
