The song is about addiction, specifically drugs (cocaine - chop your breakfast on a mirror), but can be taken generally. The lyrics are largely from the perspective of the drug, although that switches in the middle section. The theme of the album is control. It’s possibly the best metal album ever made. Worth diving into.

Metallica: James Hetfield - Vocals, rhythm guitar Kirk Hammett - Lead guitar Cliff Burton - Bass guitar Lars Ulrich - Drums This is the original line up. Master Of Puppets was the last album with bassist Cliff Burton. In 1986 Metallica was touring on this album in Europe. While travelling to their next show in Sweden their tour bus crashed and flipped over. Cliff Burton was killed. He was only 24 years old. Cliff was a bass genius. Some Metallica fans consider this album the last REAL Metallica album. RIP Cliff Burton. Still missed, forever a Legend.

There are so many great things about this song. As many have said already the song is about drug or alcohol addiction and how those things become your master. One of my favorite things about the song are how it follows the pattern of the drug addiction in the music. When the music is fast and frantic you can imagine the person needing a fix, and then the music gets soft and almost dream like while they are on the drug, then as the drug wears off the music ramps up again finally ending frantic as the person looks for the next fix.

Yes this song was about dr🤘gs. There is 2 guitarist the song James and the lead. This song was a defining moment for them it was only up from there. Check out there live in Moscow I think 1991 with a crowd of 1.6 million people we will probably never see that size crowd in our lifetime. Also check there live concerts with the San Francisco symphony. Awesome,🤘

James Hetfield (Main Vocals) sings all of their songs but back then they had a bass player named Jason Newstead (their 2nd bass player) and he did backup vocals and harmony

When this album was recorded the band was James hwtfield- lead vocals and gut air Laes Upright drums Krik Hammer Lead guitar cliff button Bass guitar cliff Burton died while touring g I. support of the album there tour bus slid on a icy road in Sweden and flipped over. He was replaced by Jason Newstead who started in the band till 2001. After Jason left Robert Trujiullo has been the bassists since.

I reviewed this song /album when it came out for Your Flesh magazine. This was about Cocaine, which Metallica were against, one of the reasons Mustaine got booted. Metallica named their band after their 2 favorite things METAL and vodKA, just add in an "I", and you get Metallica. lol.

the lyric "Chop your breakfast on a mirror" gives the subject away. saw them live at the Alamodome several years ago. other best songs are "Fade to Black", "One", "Welcome Home (Sanitarium)", and "Enter Sandman". three very young sisters from Monterrey Mexico cover that last song. when very very young... Enter Sandman - METALLICA Cover - The Warning (24 million views). and recently... Alessia Cara & The Warning - "Enter Sandman" (Official Music Video) - The Metallica Blacklist Album. as previously suggested, their best vocals are by the drummer... The Warning - "REVENANT" (Official Lyric Video), and by the guitarist... The Warning - CHOKE. do not be scared and jump, Hell is worth all that!

One of the best bands live you'll see. This coming tour may be one of their last, I'd go if you get the chance. And yep it's about drugs, the song is told from the perspective of the drug. Also, the music follows the highs/lows that drugs bring the user, thus the melodic break or the "high" of the drug.
