This song is about Michael’s love-hate relationship with drug addiction. You see how he goes back and forth from calling the drug a bitch and then calls it “reliable”.

I always thought this was about escaping all the negativity in the world via morphine. Things like you hate your race and you're so unreliable are things people famously said to Michael, and he does say people are throwing shade. So it's just a constant barrage of insults and accusations and negativity, and his only escape is the drug that says trust in me and just in me, like Kaa from the Jungle Book when he hypnotizes people he intends to eat. Michael loved Disney, especially classic Disney, so I think the symbolism is intentional.

This isnt really a clap back, This is what STORYTELLING in Music is, Hes speaking from his first person point of view narrative of himself when he's suffering from withdrawals (which is why he says "daddy" thru out the track), Hes talking about himself as "The one that cant be trusted" when he needs his fix & then the bridge "Trust in me, Put all your trust in me" is the Morphine speaking to him. Its a Drug song & Its one of Michaels greatest hidden gems because it was Michael being truthful about his addiction.. The breakdown in the middle is suppose to be the beautiful relax state youre in once the drug has taken its affect (Demerol/Morphine are in the same family of Heroin😳), then the comedown from the drug, which is the Gritty Rock starting back up.. Its a cycle. The beautiful thing about this song is not only its unique production of blending in Alternative Hard Rock such as Nine Inch Nails & Blending with Hard Bassed Pop, Its also "The Elelphant Man" Sample thats layered thru out the track, that im sure Jackson insisted on being apart of the track & probably paid a pretty penny to get it cleared by Columbia/Paramount Pictures. Its also a song about Doctors pushing Opioids as a form of Immediate Relief, Jackson is heard saying "Its what the doctor says.." After each chorus with his vocals blending into the vocals of the sample from The Elephant Man... If you dont know what the Elephant Man is, Google it, It was a real case of a human who was used as a side show freak for carnivals and turned later into a true life movie that became a huge Hollywood film, Jackson always felt connected to the movie as he himself felt like an object for the world to use at their dispense since he was 5.. Which you could see how that type of life could end in drug addiction, which leads us back to this amazing track. Remember theres always back stories to these tracks youre listening to for the first time.🔥

This explanation🙌🏻 YES! You got it just right, it's exactly what I was thinking. He's mad at himself for falling into drug use. So sad but I'm still glad he decided to write a song about it. It shows that he was very aware of what he was doing and most importantly, he didn't sugar coat it at all.

fun facts about morphine: it was written in 1993, during the time that MJ was admitted to a rehab clinic to cure his drug addiction. He became addicted to drugs after he was accused of sexual abuse in 1993, which caused a lot of stress. During that time, he had to make the dangerous tour further, often to do the shows he took absurd amounts of medication. I still had to deal with insomnia and excessive weight loss. His friend Elizabeth Taylor used to take morphine for headaches regularly, which may have influenced him. Michael's addiction has been reported in court documents. Morphine was recorded at the stage when Michael was recovering from drug addiction. The song still contained an audio from the movie "The elephant man"

@@jikari6461asn’t only on "medication". after he was burned, they pumped Mike’s system with morphine on full load! They had to give him A LOT of morphine so he’d be able to survive through it and don’t feel any pain. I mean we’re talking about 2nd and 3rd degree scalp burns here. Now imagine a sober human being starting with a full load of morphine for Months. It wasn’t his choice. That’s definitely where his History with Morphine. started. He went to rehab multiple times throughout his Lifetime. The 1993 allegations just intensified his struggle with Addiction. After the 93 allegations hit, he went to rehab again and even canceled a few of his dangerous world tour shows. He became clean and the system still haunted him so he would fall into that addiction again. He then went to rehab AGAIN in 1996/7. And Boom - People suddenly were trying to get him for his and multiple other Catalogue’s he owned. When he wouldn’t sell them, new allegations came up "coincidentally". That’s when it was over. He then had no strength anymore to fight against it because that shit would haunt him for the rest of his life. And he was right because to this day, they’re still trying to tarnish his legacy smh.

I like the style of the music. Morphine is an industrial rock song with a funky touch. MJ surprised the critic, as it was the first time that he played several instruments and even ventured to make orchestral arrangements of classical music. In addition to the choral arrangement, executed by the old partnership with Andraé Crouch. Another old partnership of Michael is present, like the guitarist Slash who plays with Michael :)

"Morphine"'s central themes is the drug usage of Demerol & apparently told from the drug's point of view.In the track, he sings, "Trust in me/Just in me/Put all your trust in me/You're doin' morphine...Go on babe/Relax/This won't hurt you/Before I put it in/Close your eyes and count to ten/Don't cry/I won't convert you/There's no need to dismay/Close your eyes and drift away". On this song, Jackson was the sole arranger, doing such to the classical, vocal and orchestral aspects. Jackson also played solo percussion and drums and received joint guitar credit alongside longtime collaborator Slash.👑

Maybe On your own time, if you’re only reacting to music of course, watch Michaels speech on black entertainers, the whole Sony situation where he called out devilish execs and ended up owning half of Sony and there artist. Although Michael was a conflicting human being, Although he appear soft, he was relentless and never backed down from a fight.
