@@tonyguarascio4901 Yes, that's why she says "Maya Maya" at the end of the song.a "“Lovin' You” was originally written as a lullaby to one-year-old Maya and her brother Marc, so that Riperton and her husband could spend time together, living as a young couple in Gainesville, Florida. At the end of the LP version, you can hear Minnie singing “Maya, Maya.”"

How do I love trivia that's awesome I did not even have a remote idea that Maya Rudolph's mother was Minnie Riperton. Thank you thank you very much I love that stuff. I think the only singer that I could think of off the top of my head that could pull that off honestly besides many would B Mariah Carey. Beautifully sincere reaction. As others have written here, the Fender Rhodes electric piano was played by Stevie Wonder, who arranged the Perfect Angel album that this song came from. I still have the album that I bought when it came out in 1974, with its amazing credits, which listed "Fender Rhodes Piano: El Toro Negro" (Stevie Wonder's alter ego as "the black bull", which he had to use for contractual reasons) followed by "Mockingbird: God," which is how he credited the source of the background call.

This song was written and produced by the great Stevie Wonder. The song went all the way to hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the early spring of 1975. Minnie's vocal range is between the 5-7 octave scale. By the way, Minnie's daughter is the great comic actress, Maya Rudolph. This song is a definitely a beautiful song indeed!!!

I used to be able to hit that high note when I was younger. Not anymore unfortunately due to age and too many years of smoking. I loved Minnie because she was one of the few in my 1st soprano vocal range. My ability to hit those high notes are one of the reasons my choir teacher wanted me to study opera. Unfortunately there was no way my family could afford that kind of training even in the early 80's.

Minnie Julia Riperton Rudolph was born in Chicago on November 8, 1947. Soul, R&B and Rock singer, she became very famous for the 1975 single "Lovin' You". was an important name in the civil rights movement and one of the voices in breast cancer awareness. In January 1976, Riperton was diagnosed with breast cancer and underwent a radical mastectomy. By the time of diagnosis, the cancer had spread and she was given about 6 months to live. Despite the bleak prognosis, she continued recording and touring. Riperton was one of the first celebrities to go public with her breast cancer diagnosis, but did not reveal that she was terminally ill. She passed away a few years later, but left her mark on music history. Her hot voice will be eternal ....

Maybe next we could get you to react to a song that says it all. SHOW AND TELL by Al Wilson. I memorized this song in junior high school to sing to a girl to get her to go to a dance. She said, Yes. And at the dance, when they played the song I held her closer and whispered it in her ear. She was my girlfriend for the rest of the year until she moved away. I never saw her again. But the memory remains. Another suggestion, DISCO ROUND by Alicia Bridges. Enjoy

My Minnie Riperton story is this. Years ago I, and my Brothers, and Cousins, attended Black Expo at the International Amphitheatre in Chicago. We were of only a handful of White folks who were there. It was where I first learned of Apartheid in South Africa, and we all signed a petition against it. There were also Playboy Playmates signing pictures. The Event had a show, which was to feature some big name acts, but the only one who showed was Minnie Riperton; filling the auditorium with that beautiful voice of hers. She made the show outstanding.
