I'm so glad this made you smile! And found your take on it interesting. I wondered if this would go very bad or very good. :) When I heard the first single for the album I was a lot less than impressed and especially after listening to it a coupla-three times I worried about if I'd like the album. When the album came out, though, I laid down with my headphones on and listened through and this as the opener made me so excited and hopeful after being worried. I was really grinning at the end and shared it with friends on FB. (On my feelings about the single, once I heard it in the context of the album's songs/progression my feelings greatly changed.) I like the dark gritty and grungy tones and the distortion on the. guitar with how the lighter sparkly sounds come in later and the song builds textures.... The lyrics are so slow and range so minimally note-wise but it works together. On the backing vocals I got curious listening to them here now and am surprised that - from what I can find, at least - the highest in this song are Martin at F#4.... it must just be the timbre making it feel higher. *real-life pause here inserted for a moment of tone-checking it myself, yep, that's only an F#4...... My curiosity clearly outweighs my need for sleep at the moment lol* Another has shared with you what Martin said it was about. To answer about personal interpretations: For me it is about defining and declaring a safe bubble within oneself. Establishing for oneself that, yeah, all this is going on outside and with the world and even with me..... but here in these moments or in this mental space I've created I'm detached from and having peace away from all of that. "Reality is reality, but I've decided to have a place in my existence that I don't allow all of that to touch.... There's a part of me where I will defend feeling sure and peaceful."

Martin said the following during an interview: "[The last track that I wrote] is also the first song on the album, 'My Cosmos Is Mine'. I wrote it shortly after Russia had invaded Ukraine. I thought, "How much should we still bear? What else will be thrown at us?" And my first reaction was to say: I will pull myself back into my little world, leave me alone. The song is about, when dealing with powerlessness, protecting your inner self from the attacks of the world and to, together with your loved ones, prefer to hide somewhere. Which is of course rather shortsighted, because we have to accept the responsibility of our planet's wellbeing, or else no one will be left anymore."

As such, I think what Martin is describing can be likened to what Seph has created for himself, this KZbin channel. It's a sanctuary of sorts. A community from which to escape from the horrors of the outside world. A place to focus on what's good in this life.

Ooh haven’t gotten a double banger in a while. Andy passed away roughly 6 weeks before he was supposed to meet up with Dave and Martin at Martin’s home studio. I believe Dave and Martin had already started a bit of the recording process and when Fletch passed, they had to decide if that was it, or if they should continue, and I believe they made the right choice, because Andy would had definitely wanted them too. Depeche Mode had no bigger fan than Andrew Fletcher.

Hello! Martin started making this album with musician Richard Butler in 2020, when he began to think: “Now I’m 60, and I’m already on grave by one foot”. My Cosmos Is Mine is the last song written by Martin on his own in March 2022, it’s about our different fears: death or wars, which make us getting so far from reality (hope you understand) and creating own little universe (not from Delta Machine, this one is not expanding). Andy died in May 2022 and, unfortunately, he didn’t hear any song. Dave and Martin decided to end this album for Fletch (in Tour the played World In My Eyes with his pictures on screen - his favourite). If you liked this one then you’ll enjoy the rest) By the way: Alan Wilder finally make a video (he’s selling vynil in August). Looks good)

Probably one of my favourite DM tracks of all time. My wife whom I thought was my entire universe since 1998 left me for my life long best friend in 2017 and kicked me to the kerb like an old soda can. All these years later I am still struggling to come to terms with it and "You never loved me" resonates with me in a way that words can hardly describe.

What a bold way to begin the album! It reminds me of Black Celebration, with their strange beginnings, and also Sometimes, the way the voices echo. About the album, Momento Mori is Latin, basically saying, remember all must die. There's definitely a theme of death running through the piece. Andy died just before production, though Martin says they were already considering the title. It was strange not seeing Andy on stage this time. Also four of Martin's songs were co-written with the lead singer of The Psychedelic Furs, Richard Butler, pretty cool. I didn't know they knew each other.

They released this before the album came out, just a month or so after "ghosts again" (no video though). Listening to it the first few times, I thought it was bizarre, but as an opener to the album, and to the setlist of the tour, it really grew on me. I now love it. Very classic DM in the unpredictable way they have. I also felt they touched on politics on this album so much better than they did on Spirit.

When I first got this new album last year wasn’t sure about this first track. But a few listens since love it. Very atmospheric intro to the album. Probably the darkest song on the album. It was written around the start of the Russia/Ukraine conflict on how your life can just change suddenly and what your normal routines and ways of living can change in an instant. In this case an hostile invasion.

I don't know anything really about Depeche Mode outside of what I have been reading in the comments dropped here by well versed in the know DM fans. Always appreciative of those of whom that take the time to educate others here by the way 💗 Now having said all of that... This song gives me Ivory Tower Syndrome vibes. The weight of all that is happening in the world today wears heavily on the singer's soul. So heavily that he has decided to shut it all out of his world. Which segues into the interesting topic of the necessity for emotional pain to feel empathy. If you do not feel empathy then you have never felt emotional pain for another. Which then leads to something called 'pyshic numbing'. Psychologists have acknowledged this human phenomena. It basically means that in order to be able to cope on a day to day basis we all psychologically numb ourselves to some extent or another to any & all that we see/ hear/ recognize as "bad" or "immoral" or "painful" or "upsetting". If we did not psychologically numb ourselves to some extent the majority of us would be emotionally crushed every day of our lives Which would make it near impossible to function even on a basic level. So one could very well argue that living in an Ivory Tower is on the one hand a coping mechanism but on the other is not a very healthy one. It could lead to one being a zealot or tyrant about keeping their world "pure" which then can lead to them losing touch with their more humane side. They become as cold and as distant as they very people they once were hurt by. Anyways interesting topic that this song (for me) brings up. FABULOUS REACTION SEPH! GOLD STARS 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Love 💖 & peace ✌ & blessings 🙏 to you & yours & to one & all here as well 💕

Wow, such an intro 😉 ... Yes, of course, damn it´s Depeche Mode!!! 😀 Everyone have his own space, his own microcosmos in macrocosmos and this cosmos is mine - I´m the creator of (my own) universe 😁 And don´t walk in - no war, no agenda, no fear, no more! But this "war" is about our heart and souls, awareness and attentions and it´s about staying human being after all. Too much space in music, very large reverb and so much unsettled noises behind. Memento Mori is very good album and I looking forward to your reaction. Greetings 👋

This was the 2nd song of the album that I got to hear (after Ghosts Again) because the official KZbin channel of the band released it like 12 days before the album release or so. On first listening, I was shocked, because Ghosts Again was so great, and then they came with this. For me, this was an awful song at first, I couldn't even consider this a real song, that's how terrible it was for me. But when I heared it live as the concert opener, everything was different... So atmospheric. With altered keyboard sounds, live drums and dark lights. I melted every time I heared this live. Really Seph, you MUST react to the Memento Mori live versions too, even though there will be no official live release of this tour unfortunately, but you'll find everything here on KZbin or the DM Live Wiki page.

Wow! It's a good song 🎵 anyway, even though (to me)it doesn't sound like a Depeche Mode song, it sounds more like a song by Thirty Seconds to Mars to me (you know the band that's formed by an actor, but that just me), anyway I kinda have been listening 🎶 to Depeche mode all my life (since childhood), but I haven't followed them much (even when out the news about the passing of Andy Fletcher), I kinda got reintroduce to the band back in 2009 when I heard the song 🎵 💔 titled: Wrong (from Sounds of the Universe)on the Radio 📻...also it is good 👍 anyway, also the echo voice sound (in the last part),I think it is Martin and it does sound like it is in backwards form..thank you Seph 💙.

Very atmospheric and serious soundscape on this. I think many DM fans, at least among us older ones, appreciated this shift from the more flat analog soundscape of recent albums to this more atmospheric one with greater space and depth. More serious sounding, and less video games. To lower your expectations somewhat Seph. Many consider this record to be amazing. It isn't. It sounds better than the last records the group produced, and it has a smoother flow of perfectly okay songs. But it's not some kind of masterpiece - in my opinion. I place Memento Mori somewhere between 7-8 of Depeche Mode's 15 studio albums.
