YES. Illmatic and It Was Written are a pair of rap masterpiece albums. NY was spitting fire around 90-98 between him, Mobb Deep, The Beasties... Honestly the aggression of this city/state was almost romantic through these lenses, which is a serious problem but makes for amazingly well pocketed flows

"Never put me in ya box if ya sh*t eats tapes". A dated reference to when we used cassette tapes in boom boxes to listen to our music portably. Sometimes the tape heads in the boom box would become magnetized from over use without cleaning, and the tape heads would eat up the tape from your cassette and get it t tangled up so badly with the heads that you had to snap the tape just to untangle it...which of course ruined the cassette. (Also, Nas was 16 when he wrote this...17 when it dropped)
