I'll never forget the first time i heard this song. I was a senior in high school and in my film class with 5 other of my friends/classmates. This one guy comes in that, just for context, is the goofiest, sweetest, dorkiest white kid, and he had a cd player and headphones and says "you gotta check out this song" with a huge smile on his face. Each one if us took turns with the headphones and we also watched each other get emotionally brutalized and stunned into silence. Little fucker was kinda weird for that but honestly it was so memorable just how unprepared I was to hear it.

Immortal recently did an interview where he said that this story is true. He was not involved, and that the mother figure in the song, in real life, could have been a sister, or daughter or cousin, etc. Hood stories tend to evolve as they move through the community, is how he put It. But he did say that he can show the building where this happened and that the community started killing the men involved in this situation because what they did was so atrocious..and eluded to the fact that It was somebody underaged who got raped..and that’s why the community took matters into their own hands after the incident.

I remember hearing this in high school in around 2006 age 12 in a science class through headphones with my best friend. Never forget that chilling feeling. Still get it now. Still know it word for word. Lyrical genius. So we’ll put together. Immortal technique will forever be a legend for this song.

Great review. I still remember where I was and the exact moment someone showed me this song and that feeling of complete shock and sadness after listening to it. It's so visceral and compelling, and it just shows what a masterful moment in hip hop and songwriting this is. There are other songs that are equally graphic, other songs that focus on morbid subject matter like this, but no hip-hop song i've ever listened to has delivered that same inexplicable, gut-wrenching melancholy you feel when you hear this song. It just has so many elements working perfectly together. The rise and fall of the protagonist, who you can't help but feel some sympathy for as a victim of circumstance. The twist, the underlying meaning, with the mother representing the source of humanity and potential, the nurturing backbone of life and communities, and the corrosive nature of impoverished circumstances that end up corrupting and destroying this potential, and the source of it. Even the track itself, a haunting ballroom ballad, and the rough nature of the beat's repetition. The piano melody doesn't flow throughout the song, but stops abruptly and begins again, creating a disjointed flow that feels like you're stuck in an endless loop. It's not a continuation, but a repetition, and perfectly captures that idea of being stuck in this dance with the devil forever, like groundhog day; the sad reality that in underprivileged communities, this almost feels like a self-fulfilling prophecy - an environment of hopelessness and misfortune that contributes to the ongoing and repeated cannibalisation of potential hope and prosperity.

This, in my opinion is the epitome of story telling rap. IT takes you a vivid journey with billy jacobs, letting you visualize everything along the way. And the raw emotions that this song evokes in quite literally EVERYBODY who gives it a full listen. No other song does quite that

Technique is a master, I remember the first time I heard this song. Another song similar to this is "You Never Know", has a similar storytelling style with a heavy message. I like the point your dad made about this song acting as a wake up call to people in these situations. Good insights on the messages and themes in the songs too.

Also please show your dad "you never know by immortal technique" that way he can hear a story from him not so dark. And Tech was my favorite artist for many years he actually would take the money he made from rap and build orphanages in other countries like Afghanistan. Hes not just a man to speak of revolutionary topics or on revolution he actually put his money where it counted and as a underground artist before you could really make youtube money he did this gotta respect someone for that.

2 things! 1st: I was super proud of dad when he was asked whether or not he needed the lyrics and he said he didn't think so! It was such a cool moment on the channel and its been really fun watching his progression in enjoying and listening to this genre of music. 2nd: I watch alot of reaction channels and this song has sort of become a cliche on this genre of channel here on youtube. I honestly didnt want you two to review it just yet because I thought it may scare off dad from rap, honestly. I was really happy and suprised that his response was what it was. Proud of you guys! Keep it up. Now lets get in some Jedi Mind Tricks. Anything from the Violent By Design album.

Only discovered this channel the other day and checking it out but how lovely it is, You both, especially your dad have such an informed and intelligent view of music. Look at other videos for this song alone and look at the absolute fakeness of their reactions. Sad that people think they have to do that for views, This is the real. And that Mama's Gun video is hands down the best reaction video on this site. Pure truth and real. I genuinely wish you both the best. Keeping the real, true reactions and the point of reactions alive.

This is one of those rare songs I have a deep appreciation for yet can only listen to it maybe once a year. Just sends a chill right into my bones. Immortal Technique is a different kind of artist. No glorification of the lifestyle that certain other rappers clearly aspire to emulate. Instead he shows the cold brutal matter of fact reality that lies behind the veneer of the whole "thug life" image.

This is gonna be a wild one! I would love to see you guys eventually react to Sadistik. He is not very well known, but he is so very underrated. The first song I heard was "Searching for Some Beautiful", off his first album The Balancing Act, and I was hooked. My favorite album is hard to pick, each one is different so I'd pick a different one depending on my mood. For years, I listened to Sadistik almost entirely, I'd say 90%+ of the music I listened to for several years was Sadistik lol. And, he is still a large percentage of my rotation.

Wow. This was a first listen for me , though I heard of the song growing up. I really like how you're dad has a certain attentiveness when hearing new music and how you respectfully will pause to check in or prepare him for what's next. It was nice to see the verses that stood out to him. He had a true appreciation for what the lyricist was trying to say and how he chose to say it. It wasn't missed by him at all. That's special.

I'm so glad you reacted to Immortal Technique, one of the most underrated underground artists of the last two decades. Please react to his song "You Never Know" to get to know another side of his lyricism. If Dance with the Devil is viscerally brutal, You Never Know is heartbreaking and tragic, it's about lost love. I think your Dad will need the Kleenex for this one. lol
