FIRST TIME HEARING NIGHTWISH "Romanticide" - Couple's Reaction

Hello J & Shy ! Nightwish fan here, your musical quest summoned me. Welcome to the world of symphonic metal! And thank you for checking this legendary band, performing at Wacken Open Air in 2013, together with Floor Jansen, the 3rd and present female singer of the band, in front of an 82K+ audience. About the instrumental and vocal added parts - it's good to know they recorded their orchestral and vocal back tracks with prestigious institutions as London Philharmonic Orchestra. London's The Metro Voices choir group and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir as their regular partners. Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the [updated] short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory): " Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland. Tuomas Holopainen, the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. [The 1st Bassist of the band was Sami Vanska, he was with them until 2001. The 2nd one was Marco Hietala, as Bassist and vocals, since 2001 to 2020. He recently announced his retirement both from the band and the public life for the next year at least - we'll see what the future brings to us. Then very recently (May 2021) Jukka Koskinen became the 3nd Bassist of the band, for at least the Human :II: Nature tour] And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen . Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition. Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just heard her. There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). The singer is Floor Jansen from the Netherlands. In the space of a single note she will swing from opera to death metal growls or anything in between. Take your pick. Pop, rock, metal, folk, opera, liturgical, musical theatre, it doesn't matter. So far she has sung in eight languages (and counting). Then we get to Nightwish and their music. Just imagine what happens when we put together one of the best singers in contemporary music with one of the best composers in contemporary music and then surround them with some of the best musicians. "Romanticide" is the teeniest, tiniest tip of the Nightwish iceberg. Have fun exploring.

Nightwish headlined this festival. They are a Finish Symphonic Metal band.. She is about 6'1" without the heals. Being Symphonic Metal allows them to take their music in several different directions. They have the longer, grand epic style songs. But, they also have several of the more heavy metal style songs.. They even have songs with a bit of that Celtic Rock kind of vibe. But, no matter the basic style of song Tuomas (keyboard player) has written, they all have a touch of those signature symphonic elements that gives that added rich, full sound to the music. Nightwish is indeed a live experience. My only suggestion is to create a Nightwish playlist soon, it makes suggestion process easier to sort thru when you get 35 to 40 songs in. Enjoy, Gabriel should check in soon, take your choice, the Nightwish Army loves it all... Let's face it every track they did here is awesome. But, my suggestion for next to do is "Storytime" live at Wacken 2013.

It would seem that Nightwish videos don't get blocked, so you may not need to use the intrusive still frame. If it is an issue, perhaps do what many other do and have pauses for commentary. Anything to avoid that still frame.

Totally agree! The original video didn't have that but our dispute was denied and didn't want to risk posting it. We do see that with reaction videos people tend to pause buuuttt....we prefer to jam through the whole song without interruptions (we'll probably have to change that for future vids). Nightwish a fantastic live band. And what has previously been pointed out in the comments, Floor Jansen is a vocal gymnast of the highest degree, she can morph her voice at will to a great extent: from opera to deep growls. This is not happenstance, in addition to having raw natural talent she's dedicated her lifetime to getting always better.

Floor jansen the Queen of metal ♥ is a classic trained and professional voice coach with at least 20 years experience and can do anything from death metal growling to high opera notes and different styles and languages, her previous bands After Forever, Northward and Revamp and she was also featured in several Ayreon live shows and a Dutch reality show Beste zangers 2019 and 2021 and Nightwish is still doing live shows 1996-2021 ❤

One of the shortest, heavier songs by Nightwish at this concert. So much variety and Floor Jansen ( 6ft ) is probably the most versatile and empathic singer that I have ever heard. 15 songs at this concert and not one bum note even if she is singing all songs written for previous singers and had joined the band mid tour a few months ago. Worth trying a few more at this concert. Maybe something more epic like Ghost Love Score. Wacken 2013 too.

A big welcome to the Nightwish Universe from Nightwish Army Denmark 🇩🇰. This one is a pretty straight forward song - you hardly experience any of the band's real powers.... Floor is only using maybe 5% of her incredible vocal capabilities, and the same goes for the rest of the band, they are just jamming and having fun. The band is extremely tight, no one is ever overdoing anything - just enough to enhance the song. The lyrics are poetic and often built in chapters, and in layers, with a depth that will make you open your mind and thoughts - and enhanced by the composition of the music - and especially the singing techniques.. Good stuff you two. I imagine you have now summoned the global Nightwish army. This is the best band I never heard of until the pandemic hit and I had a chance to stumble upon them. This band live is excellent. I also hear Metallica in some of Empu's guitar riffs. Definitely takes some influences from them. Someone will give you a whole info bomb. Great reaction. Floor Jansen is a vocal athlete with incredible range, versatility, vocal stamina, and stage presence. She is a spinto soprano with a range of almost four octaves (D3-G#5-F6). When listening to her sing, it is apparent that she has spent the better part of her life fine-tuning her instrument with help from several vocal coaches. Floor can sing in multiple languages and genres and is a Master vocal coach. It is incredible how she is able to take any song from any genre and make it her own. This woman is a true gift to her craft and an incredible addition to a band that has always been great until 2013 when they officially hired the undisputed Queen of Metal, Floor Jansen, making Nightwish the greatest band on the planet. @Jon Anthony In Wikipedia, either outdated information about the Floor range, or incorrect, in Wikipedia it is written that Floor has more than 3 octaves, but in an interview in 2016, Floor personally said that she has 4 okava, now she has more than 4 octaves, and Floor has notes below D3, and the note belt is higher than G # 5, she has the A5 note belt, B5 is much higher than G # 5.

Any song from this Wacken concert is totally worth it and they all add up to prove my point. Nightwish songs are all different, but uniquely identifiable Nightwish. Symphonic metal genre. Often cinematic and epic, sometimes soft and sweet, sometime hard and rough. Both vocalists can growl. Best heard "live".

Floor is a little over 6' tall. Normally, Nightwish videos don't get blocked. I've seen many reactions to Nightwish (fav band and singer) that haven't resorted to anti-block video displays. Floor vocals include growls to opera and everything in between. Powerful and pitch perfect. Nightwish has no bad songs and Floor doesn't hit bad notes. @@jandshy that sounds great. I'm a metalhead for 35years now. My favorite are Iron Maiden and Gary Moore(my personal guitar hero). I also are a fan of epic classic music like from 'The Danish National Symphony Ocherstra' wich play great movie soundtracks or game themes. So i was full of expertations as symphonic metal came up in the early nineties. 'Nightwish' was totaly up my alley. Such deep and emotional, so unique and hearttouching. With piano, strings, flute and pipes in it... But only the music. Sadwise their first singer Tarja didn't fit for me in this Band. She sounds too much opera, without a special touch, without heart and soul, so static,. .so i stopped listen to Nightwish.....ugh, the Nightwish army gonna kill me for my statement about Tarja. But i dont care..that's my personal meaning, my opinion only. Everyone has a different taste and thats good so. However, bout 3 years ago i heard Nightwish on the radio. Their song 'Elan'. I said to myself: " ..wait, thats not Tarja. Wow, awesome, who is this singer?". Yes, it was Floor. I felt in love with her imidently. She just makes Tuomas awesome music composions come to life. When you want to go further on the path of our 1.83m Dutch Valkyrie Queen Floor Jansen besides Nightwish, here is some background information on her. Floor joined the band 'After Forever' in 1997 at the age of 16. Totally agree about the comparison with Amy Lee, but it's fair enough for reactors to 'instantly' make the comparison. I don't think I've ever heard a reactor make it after having heard a second song, when it becomes obvious that Floor is on a different planet.

I've noticed Nightwish is compared to the same bands by a great many reactors. The fact that impresses me the most is that the bands that are used for comparison came after Nightwish. So they sound like Nightwish. And I don't think it's by accident.

Please note you will tend to be recommended live after 2012 as that is when current and most versatile singer Floor Jansen joined. There have been two previous singers, Tarja, who is very operatic and Annette, quite poppy. Neither would be able to perform the complete setlist from the Wacken 2013 concert successfully.

Are you two from Minnesota? I see the Vikings shirt. This is one of the heavier songs from Nightwish. They have many different styles to their music. You have only heard a very little of what Floor Jansen (Yahn-sen), like Johnson with a Y is capable of. Yes she can growl and Marko (the Viking) can also bring the aggression with his vocal ability. Marko was formerly the lead vocalist for his previous band.

Its an all star cast led by one of the greatest composers of our time, Tuomas Holopainen (keyboards) and fronted by one of the greatest singers of our time. Welcome and enjoy, because there are no two similar songs. And Symphonic metal is basically classical music with electronics and electricity. PS: Floor Jansen is highly skilled and trained singer who is also a vocal coach. Classicaly trained who can sing anything she wants…. This is basically 10% of what she can do.

If you are at all interested in the lyrics i highly recommend turning captions on in most of the live videos there are lyrics. I think the lyrics are really interesting in most of the songs.
