@@jandshy I understand your dilemma, the Nightwish repertoire is very vast. So far you have "touched" the metallic side and the predominantly symphonic one. I would suggest, to get an idea of the diversity of styles approached, to continue with "I Want My Tears Back", for the folk-Celtic side. Greetings from NJ. The Nightwish Army is upon you. The 6 foot, Dutch Goddess of all things vocal is Floor Jansen (yan•sen). She is classically trained and knows more about how to use the vocal mechanism than any singer you will ever know. From breath control in the diaphragm, rib muscles, and lungs, to the resonating tone created by the shape of the skull, and absolutely everything in between. If you reacted to Romanticide then you've already heard her highest note performed live, an F6. Her versatility is unmatched as she can sing softly, hard notes, puts distortion in her voice and sing in operatic head voice, all which you experienced here in GLS. @@jandshy Yes, listen to the other songs first. Then perhaps you will be ready for the GSE. It is one song, great story. Most of the reaction people stop the video before it ends. In the end, where the credits are shown, do not stop the video. Watch it till the very end. In the end Richard Dawkins' voice (speech, not live though) is part of the song.

@@jandshy Please choose the live performance for Storytime. Nightwish has made some music videos and they are good, but performing live is when they really shine. Also, be aware of the fact that most music videos are with the former singers. There are only 3 music videos with Floor. There are 4 with Anette and Storytime is one of them (if you want to hear her, the music videos are the best way to go) and 7 with Tarja (live is the way to go for her too for the most part).

Tuomas, the keyboard player, composer, lyrist for the band, is a big Disney fan, and has varied influences from classical composers to movie and Cirque du Soleil music. They also frequently use their own prerecorded Symphony and choir tracks in many songs which they play in sync with using a Clic track. They treat each concert as a complete theatrical presentation. These large stage productions are more complex than how they play in smaller venues.

On the background of the chorus (My fall will be for you), there is a choir part and the crowd was probably singing to that. On the album it is more prominent than the main vocals. I think the only weakness this live version has is that the choir is a bit low in the mix.

You haven't even seen Troy yet!...he brings a whole new side with his whistles and pipes, and another guitar. There are no poor songs or set fillers with NW. Every piece of work is a beautifully crafted journey or jaunt. Once you're down this rabbit hole there's no way out...most other music just sounds bland, boring or brainless.

Hello I have some info on Floor Jansen for you here. She is married to Hannes Van Dahl, drummer of the Swedish power metal band Sabaton. Together they have a daughter. ( Freja ) Floor Jansen is a soprano, with a range of more than 4 octaves (Eb2 to F6). Re-singing style ranges from opera to screams and grunts. She usually sings in English, in addition she has also sung songs in Dutch, German, Spanish, Finnish, Latin, Italian and Swedish. Jansen was the singer of the Dutch metal band After Forever from 1997 to early 2009. From 1999 she studied at the Rockacademie in Tilburg with classmates Jacqueline Govaert and Danny Vera, where she graduated in 2003. In addition to her activities at After Forever, she gave singing lessons. She plays guitar, piano and flute. On May 5, 2010, she presented her new band ReVamp, which was disbanded in September 2016. From 1 October 2012 Jansen replaced Anette Olzon as singer of Nightwish during the Imaginaerum World Tour. On October 9, 2013, it was announced that she would be the group's regular new front singer. In 2015, Nightwish released the album Endless Forms Most Beautiful with Jansen as lead singer. Glad you're enjoying Nightwish. They are an awesome band with a huge catalogue. Since you mentioned "battle music", I have to recommend the Canadian band Unleash The Archers. They play a fusion of power/heavy/melodic death metal, which I like to call Final Boss Metal haha. I highly recommend checking out their song Awakening (full band playthrough). Insane musicians and incredible vocals. This song is actually chapter 1 of 20, of a fantasy/sci-fi story about an immortal being, told over 2 albums(10 chapters per album Apex-2017 and Abyss-2020). the crowd was singing the chant that the choir sings behind the lead vocal but given the outdoor venue you lose some of the choir parts in order to gain a bit of the audience reaction in the mix! This band is the perfect measure of the saying "the whole is more than the some of its parts" They are all great individual players and all have other projects they are involved in but Nightwish is where they come together to create the magic :D and they have so much fun doing it, it is infectious. Their concerts are the most fun crowds to be in as it is just a great time the band gives to the audience and the audience feeds it back to the band in spades.

I never understand the idea that this music is like film music. It has much more substance and doesn't need an accompanying film story. If you read the lyrics you'll find this is a love song - to quote a phrase from it "love 'n loss". At the last "My fall" section, the rhythm is set by the choir and the lyric is: My fall will be for you My love will be in you You were the one to cut me So I’ll bleed forever Which is the theme of the song. This is what the audience joins in with. Having fun on stage is what Nightwish are about. Suggestions: Song of Myself (a top 5 for many) and Devil and the Deep Dark Ocean (more Marko!) from Buenos Aires concert (probably also top 5). NWA UK Eastern division signing out.

Ghost Love Score is really good, as is most of their other stuff, but no one song is really indicative of what they do in other songs. Each song is like a surprise. The "other" lyrics that you said didn't go with what Floor was singing is not done by the crowd. It is the Metro Voices of London gospel choir who recorded the track in studio with the London Philharmonic Orchestra. In the first verse, the choir sings, "My fall will be for you. My love will be with you. If you be the one to cut me, I will bleed forever!" And then in the My Fall Reprise at the end, Tuomas switches up the choir's lyrics just a touch so they sing, "My fall will be for you. My love will be with you. You were the one to cut me, so I will bleed forever!"

Good observation for the final act at the end, when fans were chanting one thing and Floor singing something else. This is because her last part didn't exist in the original song, Floor wrote that ending herself and she tries to do it differently every show, on purpose.

She is a powerful singer with completely different style than Floor. Nightwish IS live band, there is little reason to watch/listen their studio stuff.
