Their style was called groove metal, but also considered heavy metal. Cowboys from hell is their first album under a major label. Also cowboys from hell is a tune from the same album. This video was shot in Moscow in 1992 with over one million fans, just after communism collapsed. Drummer: Vinnie Paul Abbott, Lead guitar: Darryl Dime Bag Abbott, Bass: Rex Brown, Vocals: Phil Anselmo. Darryl was murdered on stage In 2004 in Columbus OH. His older brother Vinnie died in his sleep of a heart attack in 2018. The band broke up in 2003? Not sure. But Dime and Vinnie started their new band Damage Plan in 2004. They were on a promotional tour for their first album when Dimes life was cut short by a nut case fan who ran up on stage at the opening song in Columbus an shot Dime 6 times.

This is a specific sub-genre of metal called groove metal. These hard grooving bad mothers are one of the pioneers and the best example of the groove metal sound. To me Pantera Is a perfect blend of the metal genre known as “hard core”, which is a metal band with primarily punk rock influences, mixed with a deep grooving back beat similar to the deep grooving back beat sound that you would find in hip-hop; compliments of the incredibly talented and extremely hard hitting Drummer, Vinnie Paul and the thunderous precision of bass player Rex Brown. Add on guitar, the singular sound of one of the greatest metal guitar players to ever do it and the drummer’s younger brother, Dimebag Darrell. Talented, prolific, passionate just barely begin to describe Dimebag. Lead singer Phil Anselmo is the perfect metal frontman blend of powerful vocals, strong poetic lyrics, and uncompromising delivery mixed with a deeply concerned and troubled mind. Pantera is a deep bag of incredible cuts to choose from. You’ll have a lot of fans here suggesting you check out songs like WALK and CEMETERY GATES and COWBOYS FROM HELL. And these are all amazing cuts, but based on your reaction, I believe you’re plenty ready for a deeper cut. Check out the official music video for the song, I’M BROKEN. Greatest band hands down. Literally any song you look up you will not be disappointed. Even their covers are amazing. Just to bad the Abbot brothers are no longer with us

Your new to the Metal scene my friend, so I will lay it down for you. You don't ever pause during a guitar solo. Its a sin, flat out. Its even worse to pause during a Dimebag Derrell Abbott solo. Respect. Rest In Peace Dime and Vinnie (His brother on Drums) They have both passed. Dime was murdered on stage in 2004 and Vinnie died of heart disease in 2018. Great Reaction! Keep going you will not regret it.

The beauty of metal is that every band has their very own distinct sound, I miss these guys R.I.P Dimebag and Vinni.

"Alot of people" is an understatement of that crowd's size. There were somewhere in the neighborhood of over one million people here. This was The Monsters Of Rock Festival in Soviet Russia. The very first concert in any Communist country from Western bands. The crowd was being "patrolled" by Russian military. MI-24 Hind helicopters flying by over the crowd. This festival stands as one of the single most important concerts in the history of humanity and music. Metallica played this festival as well. I highly recommend watching their performance of "Harvester Of Sorrow". As for other great songs, you should check out Cowboys From Hell, Walk, This Love, their cover of Planet Caravan from Black Sabbath, A New Level, 10's, Floods, and Revolution Is My Name.

I never listened to Pantera before. However I once walked by one of Dimebag Darrel's guitars at the Dean guitar company in tamp. The guitar was in a shrine type of box. and I can honestly say. that you felt the presence of greatness being around that guitar. It was sick, just knowing that this guitar player had to be amazing, even though i never heard him. I was simply standing there looking at this guitar that he used to play. I was like, WOW

Dimebag (guitarist) had a guy that followed them on tour and his only job was to work his guitar effect pedals for him, what a gig!

Take some time and research Vinnie and Dime. Two absolutely amazing human beings who were taken from us way too soon.

Indeed legendary band. One of my favorite at my young age. Hardcore is the genre and have metal in mind as a living organism, always progressing, evolving and since its born it can't die. I play bass and Pantera have kick ass bass, thunder and lightning guitar and beast drums. It's the definition of Hardcore. Semetery gates
