Paul Revere is the keyboard player (his real name). Mark Lindsay is the lead singer. They had a lot of big hits in the 60's. They originally dressed in revolutionary war costumes, playing on the Paul Revere name. I always thought they were ahead of their time. Mark was a very good singer & quite the entertainer. Kicks, Just Like Me, Stepping Out, Good Thing & Hungry were a few of their big hits.

One of the singers is Native American. Loved this song. I was a teenager when it came out. Civil rights, a lot of protesting from different groups of people. This made an impact on me.

Thank you so much for listening to the whole song before you give your reaction, I wish more reactors did this. I'm Diegueno (Kumeyaay) Cherokee and English. My grandmother was full blooded my grandfather was half Cherokee half English half Cherokee. I grew up on my grandmother's reservation, life was hard, but my grandfather worked hard, he actually owned an olive picking business, and he had a huge garden so were better off than some families but grandpa always shared his fruits and vegetables with other families.

Another great rock band I grew up with from the 60's-70's. They were known for including Revolutionary War-style clothes in their attire. The band had their first hit in 1961 with the instrumental "Like, Long Hair". "Indian Reservation" was one of their biggest hits in 1971. But they had a lot of great songs such as "Just Like Me", "Kicks", "Hungry", "Let Me", "Arizona", "Mr. Sun, Mr. Moon", "Good Thing", "Him Or Me - What's It Gonna Be?" etc.

I had to learn this from a song and not in school! As a kid, I used to watch Martin Luther King Jr. and wondered why this wasn’t taught in school either! Sad..thank God for music, books and movies that spoke the truth!

Mark Lindsay the singer has some Cherokee heritage, and he orginally recorded this song as a single, but he decided to release it under the Raiders. He is still around and had been singing this his songs. He made this song the hit it was, others tried, but his version is the best.

Paul Revere and the Raiders had been around since 1961. This song hit number one in 1971 and outsold any other artist on the Columbia lable up to that point. They were a hit making machine with a string of hits from 1961 till 1975. Quintin Terantino used 3 of their mid 60's hit in the movie, "Once Upon a Time In Hollywood,"

I have stopped watching a lot of reactors because of the many long pauses they do. And they get to talking about things that have nothing to do with the song they are reacting to. I just don't have the patience anymore.

The drum style incorporated into this version was a stereotypical pattern of both Native American People's and African tribes ceremony and religious dance. Then, with the other percussion instruments, it became a jazz & swing style pattern. Ingenious!

I loved Paul Revere & the Raiders, and I think Mark Lindsay was so intense in singing it because he is part Cherokee.

Actually Mark Lindsay is NOT Cherokee. The song, Indian Reservation was originally written and recorded by John Loudermilk, as an anthem for Native Americans and bring their plight to a more general audience. Because of the song's popularity, and Lindsay's darker complexion, many ASSUME that Lindsay is Cherokee. However, the Wikipage and Mark Lindsay's own website make NO MENTION of any Native American ancestry.

Great reaction! Mark, the singer, was also the songwriter for this song. He is part Cherokee. Yes it is deep and fierce and it had quite an effect. Mark Lindsey (singer/songwriter/sax player) Paul Revere (organ), Mike Smith (aka Smitty on drums). The other two (lead guitar and bass) were basically new as the original bass player was drafted.

It was written by J D Loudermilk ,a fairly well known singer songwriter from North Carolina but he had no real Cherokee connections ..Tobacco Road was a song of his also that Johnny and Edgar Winter made popular and they have a cool video of that on ytube ..

Paul Revere & the Raiders were arguably the BIGGEST American based band of the 1960's. Heck, they made over 700 TV appearances during the decade, promoting their songs, which is still a record. The keyboardist is Paul Revere. Yes, that is his real name. Sadly, Paul passed away few years ago, as have several of the band members. Mark Lindsay, the lead singer, is 82 now, and still performs. This song was originally intended as a Mark Lindsay SOLO song. The studio version is Mark Lindsay on vocals, Paul Revere on keyboards, and The Wrecking Crew on all other instruments. The Wrecking Crew were responsible for at least 50% of the top-40 songs of the 1960's. Professional session musicians, many who became famous on their own, such as Glen Campbell Now if you want the REAL Paul Revere & the Raiders sound, check out: "Kicks"; "Stepping Out"; "Hungry", "SS 396" "Good Thing"; "Him or me, what's it Gonna be?"; "Just Like Me"; "Like Long Hair"; "I Had a Dream" and many, many more.

Is THAT KEITH ALLISON on bass there?! It LOOKS like him. He was spotted in the crowd one day on "WHERE THE ACTION IS" and people thought it was PAUL McCARTNEY, and apparently the show received all kinds of letters concerning it. He then became part of the show. IF that is KEITH here, I didn't KNOW he had become part of The Raiders. I notice that "Fang" and "Harpo" aren't in the band here, but Smitty, the drummer still is. Anyone know the name of the other guitarist?

Interesting that so many people are commenting that Mark Lindsay is Cherokee. The song, "Indian Reservation" was originally written and recorded by John Loudermilk, as an anthem for Native Americans and bring their plight to a more general audience. Because of the song's popularity, and Lindsay's darker complexion, many ASSUME that Lindsay is Cherokee. However, the Wikipage and Mark Lindsay's own website make NO MENTION of any Native American ancestry. In fact, the only reference to Lindsay being Native, is when he tells the story of how Jack Gold (a CBS record exec) approached Lindsay to do the song "Indian reservation". Lindsay didn't want to do the song, as previous versions flopped. That when Gold said "Aren't you part Cherokee? You can sell the song" Lindsay, trying to appease Gold, stated "Yeah, I'm a little Cherokee". Considering that no where else, not even on Mark Lindsay's official bio/webpage, does Lindsay claim any Native American ancestry - seems that the "Cherokee" was more of a marketing campaign to promote the song.
