Actor Will Sampson shut down production of "The White Buffalo" by refusing to say his lines until Native American actors were hired to replace the white actors playing Indians. He also founded The American Indian Registry for the performing arts to connect producers and agents to Native actors. I wonder if that is still operating?

Wish I’d had more time with him. ❤️ really helped when I took botany! 😆

I lived in Moab for 20 years, long ago they were filming a western there and the movie crew hired 50 natives. They put them all on horses and told them when the gunshot sounds any native that falls off his horse gets an extra 50 bucks. So they start filming, everyone is running around on their horses and the 1 gunshot sounds, and 50 natives fall off their horses and hit the ground. They all got the extra 50.

In OUTLANDER season 4 episode 10 The Deep Heart’s Core, there is a tribe of Mohawks that live around the North Carolina area (if I remember correctly) in the 1700’s or early 1800’s and the creators of the show did everything they could to make it as authentic and respectful as possible-in their words. It was filmed in Scotland and they used First Nation actors almost exclusively. I say almost bc I am not 100% sure but in the making of the episode and trivia they do refer to all of the Mohawk actors as First Nations. They also say that the actors had to speak the language phonetically bc none of them knew how to speak the language. But if u watch the episode or chk out the pictures the costumes, homes, weapons, and hair are said to be historically correct and it’s so beautiful and so colorful!!! Anyway, since u were talking about movies and tv including indigenous people, I thought I would share.

Actually they were in New York not in North Carolina. Interesting my cousin audition with Mel Gibson for Apocolypto. I believe it was the young pregnant women role. She was to audition in Mexico City but she couldn't make it but they rescheduled to Hollywood. I believe she was making a commercial in Japan at the time. She didn't get the role because she was considered too young to play this character. Later she audition for the movie 12 strong and got a small role. She was on the same movie set with Chris Hemsworth. She shared pictures on set but until the movie premiered. I am so proud of her. She's from Ft. Lucky! I saw him once, for the briefest second, here in Ottawa. I was sitting at a patio when he dashed by. It wasn't until a random dude on the sidewalk recognized him and was like, "Hey Adam!" And Adam Beach said, "Hey man!" And you can picture his big smile, too, right? He's so super nice.

I am not Native or Indigenous, I am part Chinese but I have the same reaction to seeing Asian/Orientals in movies, tv, advertising as the meme about spotting a Native in a film. It is still unusual and Lucy Lui, Daniel Dae Kim, Ken Jeong and Sandra Oh are my heroes in that respect. As silly as it may sound I am also proud when I see Asian police officers on the streets these days. As a kid that would never have happened. My father was in the Australian Air Force (RAAF) and the stigma of being Chinese took many years to overcome. I hope more Native actors, writers, film makers, and models are seen in the future. I believe they would do really well as Cinematographers because the Native eye is more sensitive to the natural world than our more jaded ones. I love watching you fellas shooting the breeze and learning about your cultural take on everyday things. ☮❤🦘🇦🇺

Hey just to say it's really cool what you are doing with your channel. And it's a lot of fun to watch. I pretty much lost touch completely with my heritage being a first gen New Zealander my parents met on a ship immigrating to NZ. They are father Irish and mother is English, been told I also have Jewish blood but I never really cared much about any of that. It was cool growing up there, it's like a big playground and not really much racial stuff. But I had no cousins no extended family, no understanding of heritage really at all. I really enjoy watching your channel and the love you have for your culture it's really cool.
