Imagine by Pentatonix may be one of the most important videos of this century. This group took a classic, timeless song of tolerance and peace and modernized it as only they can. They are a perfect example of what respect and love can be like. Five people with differences in race, religion, gender, and sexuality can do beautiful things when they work together. I cried when I saw and heard this the first time. I still usually tear up when they go into Wall of Sound mode. Pentaholics are the ones who need to see this the least.

I've watched this video over a dozen times, and each time I get misty-eyed as soon as Mitch turns over the first card.😥 I love how the cards show a bit of who they are and what they have in common. Such a beautiful message! Thanks for doing this one. I'm keeping my eye out for your reaction to their "Pop Spring 2016"

everyone mostly praises Avi and Mitch most of the time, and while it’s true they are amazing, Scott often gets swept under the rug as a result even tho he sounds so flawless no matter what vocal tricks he pulls and his range is just out of this world lmao. So I just wanted to give him his dues

"... because at the end of the day, this is what we truly are, human - all these labels, we need to get rid of them..." The first round of cards were the labels that described each of them - the chaotic harmony after the show of cards was a demonstration how differences working together can be beautiful The message isn't to get rid of the different labels, the message is be accepting of self and the similarities/differences with others, because all of those differences/labels ARE what makes us Human.

This isn't an upgrade just because of the incredible harmony, though that would be enough; it's an upgrade because Pentatonix has a unique talent for taking a perfect song, finding the things that make it perfect, and finding a way to enhance those elements. In "Imagine," Pentatonix honors John Lennon by engaging in a dialogue with him. John saw the problems of the world, and said that the only way to actually *deal* with those problems is to remove the basic ideas that are the excuses used to cause strife and warfare. We must get rid of religion and countries and possessions. But Pentatonix sees that getting rid of these things is impossible, so they look for another solution. And they find one, in themselves. Pentatonix declares that diversity isn't the real problem, and they demonstrate the proper way to deal with diversity. They model what diversity does in a loving, healthy community. They find the ways they're alike, and the ways they're different, and they allow their similarities to bring them together and their diversity to provide them with a wider perspective, with greater empathy. They *celebrate* their diversity, and they have a stronger, healthier community as a result. This song always makes me want to cry. I'm old enough to remember the evening news on December 8th, 1980: John Lennon, dead at the age of forty. Ambushed and shot in front of his wife, as they were returning home from an evening out together, by an assassin who then waited around for the police to arrive because he was *proud* of what he'd done. It's been over forty two years now, and the shock and grief remain as strong today as they were back then. We have no way to know what other songs John might have given us if he'd been able to live out his life; all we know is what he *did* give us, his perfect anthem, "Imagine." I wish he'd been able to see this rendition of it; Pentatonix would have made him proud.

I love revisiting their songs with their more recent work in mind. The choral 5 part work and complexity of arrangement in this one now feels like the building blocks of their arrangement of The Prayer. Flexing Kevin as a bonus tenor frees up Mitch and Scott to use their ranges to best effect, and listen to Avi gliding up and down 3 octaves (I think??) all suave and smooth. Thanks for the rewind!

I laughed so hard at the "can you believe he can hit that low?" My dude he's the base that's probably the higher of his actives. Avi is insane. As for not getting be slapped you're listening to Pentatonix there's no avoiding that you're going to get it. Best you just accept it now and move on. 😂 another funny part is this song is one of his more "relaxed" songs you want to get wound up from left field slapped then go cover "Can You Feel the Love Tonight" or aha! He got no chill mode in those. Mitch will have you in bed rest for 2 days off of them.

This is a John Lennon song that he wrote and recorded in 1971. Check out the official video of Lennon's. This is not a respectable cover but I wouldn't call it an upgrade. Watch Lennon on the piano singing it. His performance is very, very powerful and a little sad too watch. You look at him at the piano and it always hits you that this man who wanted peace and caring for one another was so cruelly taken from us on the night of December 8th, 1980 when some crazy, nut job fan shot him in the back several times when he was entering his home and for what. Because this jerk was jealous of John and was a huge Beatles fan. He thought that John betrayed him singing about peace and humanity while living in a mansion. I guess maybe the idiot never thought that John earned that privilege by busting his ass while with The Beatles performing 1,400 concerts between 1963 and 1966. Look at that number in just four years and not to mention the 12 iconic albums that they recorded between 1963 and 1969. Also the 21 #1 singles they had here in the US which is still a record with Elvis being a distant second. Not to mention another 41 songs on Billboards top 100 between 1964 and 1970 in the US for a total of 62 songs on the top 100. In the UK they had 24 #1 hits but he didn't earn any of his wealth in this whack jobs mind. "Imagine" has been a world anthem for 52 years now. Like I stated earlier, the official video from 1971, not a live performance. Lennon deserves that respect. I feel that anyone who reacts to Beatles or solo Beatles songs that the original by them should also be checked reactors. They deserve that respect. I've seen countless people react to Angelina Jordan's cover of The Beatles 1965 classic "Yesterday". Everyone's freaking out, Oh, this is the most beautiful performance of this song ever. Sorry folks but she's just one of 2,000 artists who have covered this song in history and there's a lot of great covers of it. Nothing tops the original written by Paul McCartney. No cover of any Beatles song is better than the originals. Sorry, ain't happening and I'm not being nostalgic it's just that The Beatles were that F***KING great ! P.S. I meant to say a respectable cover of Imagine earlier, not that's it's not a respectable cover. Peace ❤

No, Doug, you actually DID mean to say PTX didn't do the song justice, you pious, and God VERBOSE, commentor who wouldn't know talent if it hit you in the face. Abd yet for all the greatness John Lennon had, he couldn't keep from being murdered. Were you in on that death plot as well?

@@scottrogers7242 Don't tell me what I meant or didn't mean too say you judgemental dumb ass. Where the F**k do you get off asking me if I may have had a hand I'm Lennon's murder? And what kind of stupid BS quote was that didn't keep him from getting killed. I have no clue what that even meant. You should change your name from Scott Rogers to pretentious c**k sucker because that's what you are. Don't hit me back because I haven't the time for ignorant half wits like yourself.
@dougsusie2319
@dougsusie2319 Жыл бұрын
@@scottrogers7242 I forgot to add. Don't put no God label on me. God and the Bible are both BS stories made up by man to scare and control and scare people through fear and retribution. I don't have time for fairytales. The biggest problem in this nation right now is the far right MAGA extremists and their phony God, the flag and the Bible phony Christian BS. Thank Trump for that, he stacked the Supreme Court and Federal courts with Republican extremest judges. All that from a criminal and rapist piece of human feces. That's ok though his days coming real soon. Hope he has fun in prison. Another thing, who the hell are you to tell me that I wouldn't know talent if it hit me in the face? I take it you don't think The Beatles aren't that talented. The Beatles and Bob Dylan, that's the big two in my books. There's been many talented bands and solo artists over the years. Hell I even think that Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Bing Crosby and all those old crooners are great. I didn't say a bad word about PTX as you call them. I think they're very talented and I enjoy their Christmas songs very much. Sorry to burst your bubble, they're just not on the level of The Beatles, but then nobody is and that's OK. There will never be another Beatles.
