Almost all these comments are focused only on Pentatonix, which are unbelievable, but you need variety on your channel, especially vocal types. So here is a short list of artists that you need to check out, and their fans will give you others. Diana Ankudinova "Wicked Game", Angelina Jordan "I Put A Spell On You", Marcelito Pomoy "The Prayer", Jinjer "Pieces", Peter Hollens "Into The West" and Hua Chenyu "Nunchucks". Enjoy your journey.

Speaking of range - noticed who took over the bass when Matt was singing lead? It’s Scott! He’s always been the one taking over when Avi or Matt sings lead. Prime example is You’re a Mean One Mr. Grinch where Matt sings lead for the full song, so Scott is doing bass.

One thing I love about Pentatonix is that it doesn’t look like any one individual of the group is envious of any of the others or always wants/needs to be in the spotlight. It seems like they want to do the song justice and they try to give every member a moment to shine in order to make that happen. ❤

For songs with no beat box check out Mad World, Run To You (an original), Light In The Hallway (another original) and Imagine. Kevin, the beatboxer, has a beautiful tenor voice. Those overlapping ranges are part of the unique PTX sound. They can double up anywhere from the lowest part of Matt's range to the top of Kirstin's: Matt and Scott (bass to baritone), Scott, Kevin, and Mitch (tenor), Mitch and Kirstin (alto to soprano). Kirstin can also do whistle notes.

There's a few of PTX's songs without Kevin doing any beats. He does however, join in the harmonies and it's wonderful!!! He's a tenor with a really sweet falsetto. The 5 part harmony songs are: Run To You ( an original), Mad World ( Tears For Fears cover), Can't help Falling In Love ( Elvis Presley cover). There may be a couple more. I think Dreams ( The Cranberries cover) is 5 part and Praying ( Kesha cover...this has only a lyric video).

I fell in love with Pentatonix on “The Sing-Off”. I remember my friends and I calling in to vote and hoping they would make it to the next round. We were ecstatic when they won and even more ecstatic when we found out they would come perform in Seattle a few months later. We were lucky enough to see them twice in Seattle because they added a concert at the end of their tour since quite a few fans were not able to fit in the first venue they performed in. This might sound corny but it was absolutely magical to see the group, you just voted for on TV a few months ago to win a competition, perform at a small venue right in front of you. Pentatonix deserve all the success because they, in my opinion, worked their butt off for it.

In addition to being the newest member of Pentatonix (though at this point he's been a member for just about as long as Avi was), Matt is also the youngest member of Pentatonix. And I've been told that bass voices improve with age. So it's hard to be sure just what Matt's range is, because it's still growing. Yes, this was released four years ago. Yes, Matt shows an incredible range in it. No, it isn't an accurate reflection of his current range; for that you need something more recent. I've noticed that Matt's arrangement for the second verse of "Hallelujah" is different from Avi's arrangement. It seems to have been designed to allow Matt to demonstrate his full range. You can see a recent live feed of "Hallelujah" from their 2023 world tour here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/d4S8q3-lnp1kZs0 Matt doesn't appear to be down to basso profundo levels yet, though he's getting close, but his high end is astonishing; he gets very near the top of a normal tenor range.

The way they blend that dissonance and resolve in this upgrade is expert. The last bit feels like that misty, warm summer rain that comes after a thunderstorm. The sun comes out at the same time and gives us that soft, glowy feeling after an awesomely wild and wicked ride of pelting rain, booming thunder and cracking jolts of lightning. It fits the lyrics and over all theme of the song wonderfully.

Re 7:40 in your video. Kirstie (and the rest) have always had multi-octave ranges. In their "On My Way Home" documentary, the camera and fans are given a glimpse into Kirstin's family home. Tucked away on a shelf is her all state (Texas!) award for singing alto. Not only did she sing low, she also had to sing many more harmony than lead lines in that role. I think that's part of the reason that Kirstie didn't sing many leads early in PTX ...the others had to learn to shift from lead to harmony and back again.

Separately, he has a 3 part story called 'The Tale of Jenny and Screech (Full)'; it includes stories of Jenny, Screech then Violet. The tales together depict violence but there is an underlying critique of violence as such.

Another "variation" of Pentatonix that you may be interested in is the two songs released without a designated bass at all, in the transition in 2017 between Avi and Matt. They both have videos, the songs are Dancing on my own and Away in a Manger. And yeah, Matt's been around for 5.5 years, and Avi was only with them for 6.5 years, so...time to update your associations.

Kirstin is officially a mezzo soprano, because that's the range she's most comfortable with. In real life, though, she sings anywhere from the low end of the alto range through the high end of coloratura soprano, with whistle notes on top of that. She can't go to the contralto range, but she's good with anything above that.

The tall blond guy is Scott Hoying, Baritone; the girl is Kirsten Maldonado, Mezzo-Soprano; the guy with the hat is Mitch Grassi, Counter-Tenor; the guy who took over for Avi Kaplan is Matt Sallee, also a Basso Profundo; and Kevin Olusola is the beatboxer/Cellist beatboxer. Scott, Kirsten, and Mitch met in a high school in Arlington, TX, between Dallas and Ft. Worth, TX. After graduation they all went to different colleges and majored in music. There was a competition called "Sing-Off," and they got toghether for it. Five members were required, so the other two came in as references.

Pentatonix puts a lot of effort into taking care of their voices - given how many concerts they perform and the fact that if just one person is sick a whole concert is likely to be ruined, they have to. They say the two most important things are keeping hydrated and getting enough rest, so they'll leave parties early, for instance, so they can get enough sleep. Also, you're right. They don't strain their voices. Of course, with their incredible ranges there is less temptation to push past the limit, but even so. I think this is one of the reasons they go out of their way to select as lead the singer who most suits a song. Beyond being a good idea musically, it accomplishes three things for the band as a whole, and the individual singers: 1. No one singer has to ALWAYS take the lead, and get exhausted. 2. They bear in mind the ranges of the singers when selecting the lead, so there's no reason for anyone to try to sing beyond the limits of his or her range. 3. The obvious advantage that everyone comments on is that each singer gets his or her time in the sun. There's no jealousy involved, because there's no reason for jealousy. This makes them happier both individually and as an extended family of choice.

You've just placed in my top 3 reactors!! There are so many reactors who don't know anything about music or the person/group they are critiquing!! This is also one of my favorite songs ever but Pentatonix slay it!

Your first question. Pentaholics is the right answer. I've been one since September 2011 with their first song on The Sing Off. You have to watch/listen to their cover of 'My Heart With You'. Haunting harmonies!!!

Loved your insightful reaction! New subscriber in the hopes of more PTX 😊 Some of my favs are "The Prayer", "Gold"(Kiira cover) and "Aha! Singapore, The Star Vista" (there's a fancam). Also fingers crossed you might check out Superfruit (a Scott and Mitch duo), e.g. "Defying Gravity", "Hip-Hop Goes Broadway 1-2". And just so you know, there are hilarious bloopers at the end of each 😁

Mad world comes to my mind when you want to hear a song without beatboxing. Kevin sings in that one.

Ive seen people mention a few songs where Kevin does not beatbox (favorites are Run To You, and My Heart With You). But check out 2 songs where be "cellonoxes" (yes, beat boxing while playing the cello); covers of "Say Something" and "Shallow". I really love his beat boxing in "Bohemian Rhapsody " and "Can You Feel the Love Tonight "

I love hearing Kevin sing, plus always a surprise! Agree to hear him watch Mary did you know? And Amazing Grace. Other drop dead amazing songs of theirs would love to have you react to are Can you feel the love tonight? Bohemian rhapsody, and Sing. All totally different. Of course, as a fellow choir member, Amazing Grace has to be first IMHO.
