The problem with listening to Pink Floyd is that one song generally flows into the next. When you try to listen to individual songs on KZbin, you often get clumsy cut offs. Each of their albums were really meant to be listened to in their entirety.

Problem is the Shine on song is in parts and makes up most of the album. It starts the album with 5 parts that are 13:32 long and then ends the album with parts 6-9 that is 12:28 long. Sometime when you want to chill out sit down and listen to the whole album beginning to end. edit: The end of this song turns into a transition into the next song "Wish You Were Here". If you listen to the album this song turns into being played on a radio and someone changes the channel and you here a couple other things and then it centers on the next song and fades in.

This is an album that should be played beginning to end, but a little known facts that gets lost in the technological advancements was that it was released on 8 track (if anyone remembers those things). Since the 8 track tape was played as a continuous loop, there is a instrumental part that connects Shine On You Crazy Diamonds parts 6-9 at the end of the album to Shine On You Crazy Diamonds 1-5 at the beginning of the album, and the David Gilmore guitar solo is really nice. Sadly, that bit is lost on albums, cassettes, CDs, downloads, and any other format because they don't play as a loop.

ALL Pink Floyd albums should be experienced from beginning to end. I should have known that when it ended. You guys have mentioned before how the albums are a continuous flow.

Shine on you crazy Diamond! The recording might morph into the next song. For Shine On, you might try a Pulse or Gilmour live recording as he combines the different parts. On the album, it opens and closes the album.

Pink Floyd is the best, like I have said before they're by far my favorite band, I have gone out kayaking and I would just listen to them all day while I was out there floating in more ways than one

So much funk & blues in one amazing Pink Floyd song, as well.

I remember purchasing this album with some early teen birthday or chore money, can't remember which, and then waiting for my parents to go out so that I could get my first listen, alone, a few pillows on the livingroom carpet, loud on the record player. It was like torture waiting for them to have a reason to go out together, but worth it so that I could listen loud and without interruptions.

Gritty - yes! It's Roger Waters' cynical look at the duplicity of the management and accountants in the music industry. To get that fat-cat record industry manager vocal, they drafted in the brilliant Roy Harper to sing lead vocal. You should check out some Roy Harper tunes. He is an incredibly talented musician and lyricist, and incredibly influential.

Sonically Pink Floyd is the most amazing band ever. So many subtle layers under the main rhythm and their lyrics are always thought provoking!

One of the best albums ever! Guys if you would really like to know how they perform live in concert and see one the the greatest guitar solos ever then I very very highly watch their song Comfortably Numb from the Pulse tour. You will be amazed at all of their talent and will leave you in awe. They are not JUST a band.... they are a complete show that you can't take your eyes off.

Amber is right. Listening to Pink Floyd is a journey. However the journey doesn't really start until you have listened to their song ..Shine On You Crazy Diamond. Classic Floyd and my absolute favorite.

They hired another artist to do the vocals on this song - Roy Harper. And I always liked David Gilmour's guitar playing. Great reaction!

Wasn’t “hired”. He was a friend and colleague who dropped by the studio while they were working on it and they asked if he’d like to have a go at it.

I'm impressed over and over again with Amber's ability to deconstruct any song in an articulate and well thought out manner. Both of you actually. Accurate break downs over and over. Nice job and please keep it up. Loving the positive vibes! Check out "Shine on you crazy Diamond". Quintessential Pink Floyd.

This song was written as a satirical comment of the music executives response Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon. “Okay you’ve made it big with Dark Side of the Moon, what are you going to do now?” With the expectations of developing another smash hit album so, “We all can get rich (riding the gravy train).”
@wandaminter94212 жыл бұрын
LOL. Your comment reminded me of the Tom Petty song "Joe"..."you get to be famous, I get to be rich".

Every song by Floyd is gold+, but this song and album are right up there with the best ever - brings back memories of first hearing it when released, and Gilmour was one of the main influences in my early guitar playing years. Btw - this is a rare version / mix, as it sounds a little different (but still incredible) and it has an extra 4 bars of guitar solo that are not on other version. I had purchased the 8 track, and also a re-release of the album that had this 'extended' version. Anyway, hope you continue your PF journey, there are so many amazing songs, and they are the best band of all time..

When me kids were young I would listen to Pink Floyd and they would complain... "are they ever going to sing?"..my reply was "listen to the instruments and you will hear they are singing!"... lol. They now understand it as adults. Pink Floyd is so wonderful to my ears.

Love this song. I hope you will do "Run Like Hell" at some point. It's quite different from a lot of the stuff you've done from the Floyds so far.

This song is of course from the Wish You Were Here album, which followed Dark Side of The Moon by two years. Dark Side of The Moon Was Still on the charts when this was released. (and would continue to chart for another eight years) Dark Side of The Moon was of course a mega hit, and Wish You Were Here, really tells the story of the immense pressure the band was put under by their label to try and duplicate that success. My favorite line in this song is "oh by the way, which one's Pink?"

This is the shady side of music companies who know nothing about them. "Oh by the way which one is Pink?" It is about signing a contract with Columbia Records.
