I am 68 years old from the UK so I was brought up on Yes, King Crimson, Genesis, Caravan, Wishbobe Ash and many more prog bands. I discovered PT around 1990 and managed to see them live in Glasgow with Robert Fripp doing the Wes part with Steven. Unbelievable good live. The transitions, tightness of the time changes, part changes, harmonies. God level.

I am now 68 and I have followed steven Wilson for years, his work is stunning and both Porcupine Tree and his solo work are a joy to listen to over and over, you always seem to find a new level and another sound that was hidden away, he makes soundscapes that are interesting, haunting and just so listenable. Try Russia on Ice or Fear of a Blank Planet, the of course that is only the tip of the iceberg, that is Steven Wilson.

The Sound of Muzak, The Start of Something Beautiful, Hatesong, Arriving Somewhere But Not Here, Cheating The Polygraph and Dark Matter are a just few more to get on with. And then there’s Steven Wilsons’ solo stuff and side projects.

Thought you might appreciate this performance. Many more PT songs to try. Fear of a black planet, Hatesong, start of something beautiful and Steve Wilsons solo work to name a few of a vast catalog of songs. I missed out on PT back in the day and only discovered them a few years ago myself. Glad to see they are producing new material again. Might get an opportunity to see them for real.

So cool to see a first reaction to this amazing work. It remains a thrill after 100 listens, but the first time is an awakening. Ok, PT cover a lot of musical terrain. Each of the guys shine in different songs. To experience their scope I recommend Bonnie the Cat, Heart Attack on a Layby, Sound of Muzak and Mother and Child Divided. Definitely enjoying your trip!

Great reaction!!! I only discovered there guys last year and I'm still blown away when I hear their stuff. Complex, dynamic, profound, beautiful - ticks all the boxes for me, not to mention the 32 million fuck-tonnes of talent on display. Check out "fear of a blank planet" off the same album or they're newer track "harridan" for equally dark greatness, or " trains" and "Russia on ice" for something a little lighter but still stupifyingly impressive 🤟🤟🤟

U still have a lot of PT song's to listen and react too... But after that U should consider listening to and reacting too? The Frontman of "Porcupine Tree" Or PT "Steven Wilson" Solo Albums and Songs! My Top 2 Albums by "Steven Wilson": 'The Raven That Refused To Sing released in 2013' and Hand.Cannot.Erase. released in 2015 Just Epic Albums! Also Very Solid Albums are: 'Grace For Drowning' released in 2011, 'Insurgentes' released in 2009 and Steven's most Alternative, Contemporary & Prog Type Album 'To The Bone' released in 2017... Steven's Very Electronic Album released in 2021 called: 'The Future Bites' and a lot of PT fan's really don't care for but I did enjoy this Album for his creativeness and chances Steven takes in Music... Steven's live Albums that are Excellent: 'Home Invasion' released in 2018, 'Live At Wiltern Theater' released in 2015, Catalogue / Preserve / Amass released in 2012 and 'Get All You Deserve' released in 2012... But for now please keep enjoying the PT Musical Journey!

Hatesong was suggested on another of your PT reactions....and for more Gavin Harrison it's a must. He's also a drummer for King Crimson, and his now main band The Pineapple Theif , which is also excellent. As for Steven Wilson , the hype is real.

Hey BBR - lovin' your initiation journey into all things Steven Wilson - including Porcupine Tree. So many other great suggestions for songs being made here I probably dont need to add, but something I noticed on another Reaction channel the other day, was the guy thanking one of his subscribers for being willing to pay the full scription cost so that KZbin allows you to play full tracks without pausing. $100 or something similar it was. This might be worth your while checking out. I love your blown away comments - but on this other channel, he is able to make them without pausing the track and it really allows the mood and the momentum to be maintained.

You're not alone in (almost) missing out. Better late than never, and that's for sure. Back in 1995 or so, I came in to a bit of money and splurged on a new car, a lovely forest green Saab 900se convertible. It has a CD player rather than a casette player. I owned no CDs, just vinyl and casettes, so a trip to some by now bankrupt local outlet of an electronics store placed my in front of a long row of alphabetized CDs for sale. I had been very busy with career, wife, kids, and home, and hadn't paid much attention to new music since disco, punk, grunge, hip-hop and rap had bedeviled the public's musical mind. I started at "A" and flipped my way all the way to "Y" before happily seeing that the reunion of Classic Yes had resulted in not one, but two "Keys to Ascension" double-album CDs. Along the way I remember seeing a couple of "Porcupine Tree" CDs, and noting they looked proggy, and utilized the long-song format when I picked them up and checked them out. With benefit of hindsight, I wish I had thrown both of them in the shopping cart alongside the two Yes ones.

You seemed in disbelief sometimes 😃, but yeah they are that good!! This song is a true masterpiece. As Larry stated you have a lot of PT songs to choose from. I’ll suggest “Time Flies” and “Russia on Ice” but imho they dont have any bad songs. Steven Wilson’s (leadsinger/songwriter) of PT solo stuff is awsome too (even though I personally didn’t like his latest album “The future Bites” but I do respect his need for experimenting in different genres.) Nice reaction 😊

When you eventually get to TOOL, take the long way around and go through their albums song by song. The band has evolved during their 30 year career so much. :) And as an introduction, since you like drummers, take a dip into their latest (2019) music with Pneuma Drum Cam (Danny Carey): kzbin.info/www/bejne/fKTWhn-EfLiNf6M After that, star from their first album, "Undertow" and the first song "Intolerance". All of their music is available on their KZbin channel: kzbin.info Try to ignore the music videos, they are .. different and will most likely distract you from the music itself. Oh and when you get to the song "Sober" from "Intolerance", take the live video from Redding 1993: kzbin.info/www/bejne/q2jPqJiEeKiqiZI
