@@shielastrong6961 Yep. You had a ticket in the first 10 rows of main show. The first 10 rows were allowed in a couple of hours before for the soundcheck then a ticket to the afterparty/show. Every night was slightly different. But in the case of the Hammersmith Apollo (which is only 5000 seats), One soundcheck was an hour long karaoke session with members of the audience singing and Prince on piano. And the next night they shot a video for Muse 2 the Pharaoh and a few other warm ups and then was an aftershow at the marque club What star does that these days?

There is No comparison period ! MJ was a entertainer. PRINCE was the GOAT of musicians. He self taught himself 27 instruments by age 12 . And recorded his first 5 albums all by himself .Writing, producing, engineering, all instruments and singing. PRINCE recording alone = GREAT ALBUM !! That's how WB gave him the largest deal ever at 100 million. While MJ's was 30 mil .PRINCE was a singularity!!!

@Tony Apart from TV performances, he almost never lip-synced, since the early 70s when he was only a kid. The only exception was the HIStory Tour in 1996-1997

@Francisco Hey Francisco, the HIStory Tour where he lipsynked 90% of the concert is not an exception, even if it was the worst. The Dangerous Tour was at least 40% lipsynked (Jam, Smooth Criminal, Black or White, Will You Be There, The Way You Make Me Feel, Heal The World, Man In The mirror...) and even the second leg of the Bad Tour had a few lipsynked songs (The Way You Make Me Feel, Smooth Criminal, Man In The Mirror). The last full live concert he did was in 1987. Then he became a caricature of himself.
@francisco3283
@francisco3283 3 жыл бұрын
@@3ver4fter53I didn't mean to say HIStory was the only exception - The point I'm trying to make is that you only get the sense that he lipsynced a lot when you solely pay attention to his later career (mostly 1996-2002), but looking at the full picture, overuse of lipsync was only a problem in a relatively small part of his life: His live career before becoming a solo artist is much bigger than what people realise. As a result, lipsynced performances only make up for around 20% of his live career as a whole. In that perspective, yes, HIStory was an exception. Anyways, I personally believe lipsync is acceptable to a certain extent when you're talking about an artist with dance routines as complex as his. However, we both can agree he took it way too far on HIStory. I believe I didn't get my point across properly earlier, sorry about that.
@3ver4fter53
@3ver4fter53 3 жыл бұрын
@@francisco3283 "The only exception was the HIStory Tour in 1996-1997"... "I didn't mean to say HIStory was the only exception"... Well, ok... Maybe you may ask yourself why you feel the need to lie to defend Michael Jackson as an artist. As an adult, he considered himself a showman, a performer, a magician, rather that a live artist. Why do you spend so much energy trying to make people believe lipsynking was an exception? It was not. Everybody knows where he comes from, you don't need to prove anything about his early days. The thing is, from 1970 to 1984, all his tours were live, and from 1988 to 2002, well it was another story. If he had felt like a live artist, he would have evolved as such with age, replacing some of his dancing routines by other things, reinvening his stage approach, his songs arrangements... That's not who he was. He said it himself, he did not like to tour. Therefore he didn't put any effort to reinvent himself anymore. He was stuck in this character he invented. All his live tricks were already there from the 1981 Triumph Tour with his brothers. From then on, he only recycled his old numbers and sang the same songs in the same order, with the exact same choreography, over and over. In my opinion that was not just a choice, that was the sign of him letting down, as an artist and as a human being.

Mj was mainstream- he had a lot of backing, commercials, advertising. Prince would Not comply with the industry, rarely gave interviews, went against the grain- which is why we’re also Mj fans. Mj was put front and center in the Media and was a great performer. Prince did things his way, media bashed him- called him gay/weird, Prince DID NOT CARE. His real fans followed his work regardless and he remains icon, legendary and incomparable 💜🙏🏼🙌🏼

My first Prince concert I attended was in 1980 in Lakeland, FL. The Time opened. The last was around 2012 in Boston. I've seen a lot of performers and bands over the years but Prince and whatever iteration of his band was the best live shows I have ever seen, bar none. Prince got me through my good times and sure as heck go me through my dark times. My wife and I had our final wedding dance to Adore in 1999. To your ? He was always "Lit". He was very audience inclusive. We were his background singers throughout the show. They were a dance party/sing-a-long. I'd like to encourage you to go back the beginning....."Soft and Wet". Spoiler....he arranged, produced, composed, wrote, played every instrument and sang every note on this one and his next two...

Hey Grasshopper, you are missing a part of the context. Everyone in the audience has listened to the album version. Sure you get this great live experience. I think you miss out since you haven't listened to the foundation (album version) from which he builds this electrical live version off from. No one sound would adequately define any artist, let alone a powerhouse of a genius such as him. He has so many incarnations through his career that you have to ride with him through it all to understand where he's at in the moment. His chameleon transformations kept him fresh and his audience engaged, guessing and entertained! His catalog of music is no joke! And I'm just counting the music he has released! He has a mountain of music in a vault that he hasn't released! Nobody knows how much music is there! One thing is for sure, he has made us all better because of the timelessness he's put into creating his musical legacy. One of a consummate genius multi-instrumrntalist musician, writer, producer and prolific singer! MJ and Prince actually respected each other alot. Their connection as "children" of the God-father of Soul, the immortal James Brown! There's a video where they al appear on the same stage at a JB concert! That's a treasure in itself.

You should feel guilty :) The man is a bad ass. #PrinceDaGOAT There are a lot of people who don't like Prince because a lot of his songs are sexual where as most of Mike's songs are clean. However, unlike Mike, Prince could play multiple instruments, write music, write lyrics, produce, engineer and compose music, did his own choreography, etc. He also wrote songs for other artists and created multiple bands, i.e. The Time, The Family, Vanity 6, etc. Watch some videos of people who worked with him like Jimmie Jam and Terry Lewis. As a beginner I'd recommend this sequential album order: Controversy, 1999, Purple Rain, Around the World in a Day, Parade, Sign O' the Times, Lovesexy. After those any of his other albums.

Here at 6:24 you can see him thrown up both hands telling the band "hit me 10x" (10 fingers)---On this song I've seen him do 5 7, I think he decides in the moment depending on the vibe and where he is will the dance flow. Prince, produced, arranged, performed, and composed 99% of his music. He mastered 20 instruments by the time he was 14, has created classical music, jazz, hip hop, metal, rock, blues, country, pop, r&b, funk and fusions of all genre's. He is also the first artist to sale his music online, which opened the doors for artists to create online, he also was the first who fought the industry for his music masters and won the fight before his passing, which opened other artists to fight for ownership of their work. Prince is the best to ever do it man, and in my opinion cannot be touched by anyone. That being said if we're talking about a fun debate, MJ for me is 2nd to Prince. Prince is my number one artist. First, stop comparing Prince to MJ. Prince is a force of his own, a horse in his race. He was unique. I attended one of his shows back in the day, and all I could say is wow! By the way, it was the, "Love Sexy Tour"

Jajaja yeah. The MJ/Prince "camps" were real. I have always been in Prince's corner. Back when people brawled over what really mattered. Lolol When MJ died I said "when Prince dies, THAT will be a tragedy."

This leads into a medley of songs that build up to a ridiculous climax, maybe the best 10 minutes of any of his shows.

Like your reaction. MJ came out in the 60s and developed his own style in the west coast until his death. Prince came out in the late 70s and developed his own style in the midwest until his death. Both of them were great entertainers in their own way with different styles in all areas. Both R.I.P. Then Terence Trent D'arby came out in the 80s and developed his own style. But was denounced by Hollywood elites because by the 80s MJ and Prince was at the top of their game. Hollywood elites didn't want Terence Trent D'arby in the game. The elites felt Terence was similar to Prince and they didn't need another Prince. Hollywood elites forced Terence out of United State. Terence been in the UK every since. His music videos: Wishing well...video Sign My Name...video Who's Loving You...live

I always viewed MJ and Prince as two sides of the same coin. Tremendous entertainers, but with Prince, he can go from piano, drums, and guitar in the same song. Total musician and fellow musicians knew and know this! He had a killer falsetto and could rock with the best guitarists in the world. Been to three of his concerts and he was truly the greatest artist I have seen in my lifetime!

You'll love Prince. Having grown up with both Prince and MJ. Other than the facts that they were both young, both black and both male the comparison stops there. They drove in their own lanes and they were both astronomical at what they did. You'll be hooked. I guarantee it!

Prince and MJ were two different artist.Princes concerts were always amazing .From the band to the dances to him playing guitar and other instruments Michaels shows were more theatrical.

The Lovesexy tour was fantastic. I think this video was taken from the Dortmund Germany show. I was lucky enough to see Prince twice in London 1990 at Wembley and again in 2007 at the London O2. Memories that will stay with me forever

Im sure you know more than Purple Rain. There really wasn't an MJ Prince debate. That was the public . They're 2 different artists. They just blew up at the sane time

Have you been to Bunker's on a Monday night for Dr. Mambo's Combo? They play every Monday. Michael Bland, who played drums with Prince for awhile, plays in Mambo's Combo. Well worth checking out if you want a healthy dose of Minneapolis music.

You need to watch the version he did on The Sign O Times movie for more and better dance moves. One review said, "He makes Michael Jackson look nailed to the floor".
