do yourself a big gift and listen to Procol Harum performing A Salty Dog (An Old English Dream with the Danish National Concert Orchestra and choir at Ledreborg Castle, Denmark in August 2006) the same gig as this performance. the song is a masterpiece and Gary Brooker (the singer) is unbeliavable. you will thank me for the suggestion.....i'm sure.

"Conquistador" from the same concert, as well as "A Salty Dog" is amazing. Another one of my favourite Procol Harum songs is "Whiskey Train" (studio version) which also showcases Robin Trower's incredible guitar along with a massive dose of cowbell.

Gary was NOT the same singer when he originally sang this in the 60s. This is a completely different level, his voice got better and better over the decades as well as his phrasing and expression. Listen to that original recording by Procol Harum, he's vocally lightyears beyond that stage he was in at that time.

The late great Gary Brooker was good in 1967 when Procol Harum released this masterpiece. Much like fine wine, as Gary aged, his voice was no longer good, but went beyond great. Then you add the orchestra and choir and you will never hear a better performance of this. Though Gary is no longer with us, he will never be forgotten, and this is why.

Ah, Procol Harum! They are a British rock band formed in the 1960s. You might be most familiar with their iconic song, "A Whiter Shade of Pale," which became one of the defining tracks of the Summer of Love in 1967. With its haunting melody and enigmatic lyrics, it's a classic that has stood the test of time. The band's blend of baroque pop and progressive rock set them apart in the music scene.

The singer, Gary Brooker, passed a few years ago. He wrote most of Procol Harum's music to lyrics written by Keith Reid. This song was a blessing and a curse for the success of the band. It was a world-wide phenomenon that just could never be achieved by them or most any group. However, even after several line-up changes, Procol Harum continued to write, record, and perform up until Brooker's death. I was fortunate to see one of their last shows. Please do yourself a favor and deep dive their material. Much of it is Baroque influenced, but also the could hit hard. There was only one Procol Harum.
