This was written by Brian for the movie “Highlander”, a mid-80s cult classic fantasy action thriller. The song refers to an immortal who must watch his mortal wife grow old and die while he lives on. Queen wrote the entire soundtrack; the songs are on their “A Kind of Magic” album. Check out the movie. “There can be only ONE!

that‘s a matter of perspective. he‘s been always surrounded by other singers and has learned from them. furthermore there‘s no better trainer than an opera singer with much more experience than any teacher who you are singing with giving you advice. that was montserrat caballé to freddie mercury. by the way he indeed got also regular music training by one piano teacher in his early years.

I understand the reason because Freddie Mercury wasn't very determined to do the Magic tour. for more experts you can see that Freddie has much more difficulty and it is not difficult to understand why by now the disease was already starting its course and the throat was the first thing he was taking. It's incredible and astounding how much this man has done live on this tour, incredible how he has carried the weight of the performance, the weight of opening his voice. His courage, his determination are inspirational and a phenomenon!

Great reaction, thanks! This is my second favorite performance of this song. I think I like the live performance of this in Budapest slightly more than this one but this one is excellent. This entire concert at Wembley was fantastic. Freddie sang in choir in school when he was young but no formal training. He did spend a lot of time in the studio working on his voice and listening back to get the vocals the way he wanted when they first started recording. I think he learned a lot from that, learning not only how to produce the sounds but how to manipulate the microphone. He learned to use his breath and body position to produce tone, texture, and most of all passion to match what the song required. I don't think there is anyone better than Freddie when it comes to matching the vocal style and emotion to the music and lyrics.

This is one of my favorites, written by Brian for the Queen Soundtrack for the movie Highlander. The main character in the movie was immortal and his entire life had been spent watching himself never age and all those he had loved grow old and pass on, so this is what inspired Brian to write this song. Freddie was never trained as a singer, he taught himself to sound the way he wanted to sound. Freddie never learned to read music so even as a piano player, his training was minimal and he was never classically trained in voice or piano. It is crazy to think that all this talent just came to him naturally and so it was for all of the members of Queen. Thanks for reacting to this one.

Fred didn't have any training, if you watch this concert, you'll see how much he can do with his voice impromptu moments from the two concerts were slightly different on each night, he would do it live and with Exercises In Free Love record. This song was written by Dr Sir Brian May for the film Highlander. They also have a Rock and Roll segment probably about ten minutes long with none of their own songs, again these songs changed over the years, but were ones you might recognise, as they were by artists they grew up listening too

@imweakfordeaky7 ай бұрын
No, Freddie was not diagnosed until a year later, in 1987. The *movie* crunched the timeline to have Freddie reveal it just before Live Aid, but that was a dramatic device for the movie only. What Freddie *did* say in 1986 was that he was tired of touring, and “not sure he could do this any more” … which his bandmates didn’t take very seriously at first, as he had said similar things in the past, deep into previous tours. It’s now fairly sure in retrospect that he *suspected* he had HIV/AIDS (as many of his friends and some of his previous lovers were ill or had succumbed to it) , but the diagnosis wasn’t official until ‘87.
