My sister committed suicide in 1991. I feel your pain. I don’t think any song would have made a difference in her case, but I’m grateful for the people that music has saved. Families shouldn’t have to go through that. Ever. I have the same tendencies, I think. The best advice I was given is that ‘Suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem’. Ive suffered from depression for the majority of my life. I can't tell you how many times this song has saved me. When I'm really low, I play it to keep me going. I heard that the video was inspired by a German film "Wings of Desire", that had a lot of interior monologues and, because it was in German, their thoughts were written on the screen. So they filmed this video showing people's faces with their thoughts below..It's a gorgeous film, and thank goodness for subtitles!

I survived mine, but it makes me think of all the people who don’t make it through. I love how powerful music is. How it can reach inside of us and connect us. My dad really finds expressing emotion hard, but we communicate a lot through sharing songs. It started when I was in hospital for almost two years and in a very dark isolated place metaphorically and literally and he sent me this song. I honestly am not a crier (to my frustration sometimes), but this song now breaks me every time because it carries my dad's love to me and makes me feel understood and held by him. What a man.
