@@NarynbekGilman Nah, every decade had it's problems and every decade had it's moaners but the folk esp after 2010 are uniquely 'soft'. Feelings started to matter more than facts and various ideologies such as gender started to get promoted. And anyone who doesn't subscribe to em started to get cancelled, a phenomenon which only got worse as social media started to encroach upon human interactions.
@NarynbekGilman
@NarynbekGilman Жыл бұрын
@@zahrans 'canceling' is essentially a form of boycotting which comes from time immemorial. And it usually doesn't really ruin people's lives. If it does, it's for really serious reasons. Also, in general, 'canceling' can help hold people accountable. I guess there are other arguments but it's a whole another talk. And you are saying "soft" as if you know about the "softness" of people throughout the whole of history, which I bet you don't. Because of social media, which you've mentioned for your statements, I even doubt it's a case in our times. That's why I'm also doubtful about your type of 'canceling'. Now, how does the importance of feelings over facts manifest itself?

That's a good age. I was only 4 in 1980. Wish I had been a little older, but my earliest possible memories at all are of music. I can recall only as far back as the halfway point of 80 when new songs were debuting. I used to like the songs "Rainy Night" by Eddie Rabbit, "Hungry Heart" by The Boss, "Arthur's Theme" by Christopher Cross and a lot of others. I can't recall actual events until I was about 5 (that's true w/ most people), but I do remember music because I had older sibs who lorded over the radio and TV and had MTV/radio on all the time and I, myself, would fall asleep after listening to a radio every night. So I got music pumped into my little brain like a prodigy.

INXS was big in the US, too. Don't Dream, It's Over is a great song to this day, but I don't know how well Crowded House stuck after that. I have old Vh1 docus on various 80s years and in the 1981 one that I re-caught a few months ago, the lead singer of Men At Work was talking about how the US market was the last one they had all kinds of trouble breaking into until they finally did and instantly blew up. Beds Are Burning by Midnight Oil was a hit in the States, too. Like that song.

We definitely got some fantastic new romantic and synth-pop stuff that didn't make it to the states though. Like in America, Soft Cell and The Human League are seen as one hit wonders, but for us a lot more of their singles entered the mainstream. Going just by sheer quantity of amazing songs, the UK won the 80s in my opinion. We had the new romantics, the synth-pop, the new wave of british heavy metal, amazing R&B/soul singers like Billy Ocean, Alison Moyet, and Rick Astley, post-punk and goth music, and so on. It's like we had the best bands while the US had the most notable solo artists.

It's crazy, the 80's were the real start of electronic music with affordable small production hardware that gave exposure to a bunch of indepedant artists. One-hit wonders, short lived careers or long term artists alike, the 80s are just full of instants classics of real artists that loved the craft outside of the money machine industry we have today.

And where is Duran Duran!!!! However, I really loved this and I am so happy to have grown up listening to all of this music. Thanks for your reaction!

A little bit of trivia in April 1981 the song "Shut upa your face" kept the fantastic "Vienna" by Ultravox off the number 1 spot, that makes me ashamed to be a Brit 😔. Loving you singing along you can't help it with these 80's tunes, it's great to see someone discovering these songs and enjoying them, while it brings back great memories for me, you can't beat the 1980's for fun music.

Hahaha Batdance by Prince always makes me smile...crazy tune, it's a rollercoaster of a song..... "Hey Duckie...let me stick the seven inch in the computer" is a line that will go over so many heads...it's worth a listen. Prince did the soundtrack for the first Batman movie with Michael Keaton and Jack Nicholson as the Joker. Lemon crush and The Future are my favourite tracks on that

This was a GREAT blast to the past! A 75 baby, I really began remembering all the ones mainly from 1983 forward. I had forgotten about that Glen Madeiros song and is instantly started singing! “Lady in Red” was about the singer’s wife I believe. You definitely should react to more Phil Collins and Genesis. And if you haven’t already, to “La Bamba” which always makes me think of the movie and “Ritchiiiiiiiiie!!!”

It makes me so happy how much you love One More Try by George Michael. 🥰 It’s one of my favorite songs of all time. The “teacher” is a metaphor. It’s not about abuse. It’s about being in a relationship with a more experienced older lover who broke his heart and so he’s afraid to love again. He doesn’t want to learn how to love someone else again because he’s afraid he will also have to learn heartbreak.😥

I just stumbled onto this video and almost didnt view it because usually when young people react to what I think is the greatest decade of music is they just dont realize the impact has on music today! So many songs are sampled and young people think its original till they hear the right version and instantly fall in love with these classics. What I am impressed by is that a young man like yourself knows so many of these songs it makes me smile because not only did I introduce these songs to my kids now I get to introduce these songs to my grandchildren and just makes me smile because they love these classics also! Love this reaction cant wait to see more!! You Rock!!!
