@@jaycmacg I was fortunate to see every Radiohead tour, from "The Bends" to "In Rainbows". Like the albums themselves, every show was different. "The Bends" and OK Computer" are the standouts for me personally. They were both in clubs, and that intimacy is hard to recreate. Although admittedly, they've blown me away with 50,000 people in a big field. But the show for "OK Computer" was the best show I ever saw, in a list of over 1,000 shows. It was the point in their career that they were really starting to become big. But they hadn't started playing stadiums and festivals yet. I'd been on board since "Creep", and "The Bends" still holds a really dear spot. So was ready for "Okay Computer", but I could have never predicted what it would end up being; musically and live both. Life changing isn't an exaggeration.

That's an interesting analogy. I've been with this band from the beginning; and the musical evolution is nothing less than astounding. My highschool girlfriend was a huge Radiohead fan UNTIL OK. Creep was an outlier song in Radiohead discography. It was a radio friendly, verse, chorus, verse song. It was on their first album and they didnt have full creative control and Creep became a one hit wonder. But, Radiohead had other ideas, and their second Album was perfection and Ok Computer Album #3 which Paranoid Android was on was another masterpiece. Few band had a better 3 album run than Radiohead with The Bends, Ok Computer, and Kid A. Radiohead was a band made up of musical prodigies imho, and were one of the best bands ever.

A beautiful symphony off one of the greatest albums of all time! A full album reaction is essential. "This does not sound like Radiohead" - actually, it's "Creep" that doesn't really sound like Radiohead. The more you listen, and the further you get away from Creep, the more it'll make sense. And, yeah, simply listening without the video is all you need with Radiohead.

At the top of the pyramid of the most influential and important bands in history of UK modern music, there sits The Beatles, The Rolling Stines, Pink Floyd... and Radiohead. Radiohead and the Beatles career development arc were quite similar. Just as the Beatles went from "Love, Love Me Do" to "I am the Walrus" in a few short years, Radiohead went from "Creep" to "Paranoid Android". And their following albums get even more experimental! They completely discarded the aim of getting radio play, and just made the music they wanted to make.

Their first album, Pablo Honey (which my dog is named after) was them trying to be what they thought they needed to be to be successful. After that they really took off creatively. Their second album, The Bends, is a large step forward in them finding their identity while still trying to make commercial music. OK Computer (which Paranoid Android is from) was a full release of the training wheels and their first album where they said bollocks to commercialism, lets do what WE want to create.... And they created a masterpiece! Each album since has been a pure piece of artwork, each exploring and exhibiting different sides of their creativity and talents. My personal favorite album is In Rainbows. Your format will be difficult to fully take them in as their sound can varry so widely while still making each album sound as a masterfully crafted complete single work. The best way to gain an understanding is not a song-here, a song-there, but in full album listens. One at a time will just peak your curiosity for more. If I had to list individual songs I would suggest one song per album so you can sort of get an idea of their maturation and evolution of their sound. The below list is my choices listed as album first, then track: Pablo Honey - Creep (1993) CHECK The Bends - Fake Plastic Trees OR My Iron Lung (1995) OK Computer - Paranoid Android (1997) CHECK I might suggest another track, but since you just did it I'm skipping an alternate suggestion Kid A - Morning Bell (2000) Amnesiac - I Might Be Wrong (2001) Hail to the Theif - Where You and I Begin (2003) In Rainbows - House of Cards (2007) The King of Limbs - Lotus Flower (2011) A Moon Shaped Pool - Decks Dark (2016)

My Iron Lung is such a wonderful metaphor. For those that can’t breathe, an iron lung keeps you alive - but it contains and restricts you from movement. “Creep” was exactly that: its royalties and airtime kept Radiohead alive, but stopped their growth. Some audiences, and their record company, just wanted the next “Creep”.

Paranoid Android and the Album OK Computer is also a reference to Douglas Adams "Hitchikers Guide to the Galaxy", both are highly existential romps a lot of distractions and Series of mad meaningless events. A large number of the lines in the Lyrics re pulled from the books/ radio play/ tv series. Including Characters forgetting Aurthur Dents name, Marvin the Paranoid Android, Marvins creators are listed as the first people to be the first people against the wall when the revolution comes. The opening lines are a reference to the Bulldozers getting ready to knock Arthurs house down.

I remember seeing this video for the first time on MTV, past midnight I think, because it was daytime banned. Haha, what a mindfudge of a video. I remember reading somewhere that the Swedish animator Magnus Carlsson was given an instrumental of this, so that Yorke's lyrics would not give him too many ideas on what he should do. Hence, the lyrics don't have much to do with what is shown, but it really maches the vibe of this whole piece, still.

OK Computer is considered a masterpiece and one of the greatest albums ever made. It is a type of concept album where there is a theme running through the whole album. Radiohead where a normal rock band before this album, but they started to experiment and changed the landscape of music. They have been called the most important UK band since The Beatles. Karma Police and Fake Plastic Trees are great too but more normal type of songs. I am sure people would like you to do a full Radiohead album reaction, and OK Computer might be the best choice, but In Rainbows in also very popular with fans. You should do some more full album reviews. Rust in Peace by Megadeth, Vulgar Display of Power by Pantera, Nevermind by Nirvana, Superunknown by Soundgarden, Simese Dream by Smashing Pumpkins, Appetite for Destruction by Guns N Roses, Dookie by Green Day, Number of the Beast or Powerslave by Iron Maiden, Ride the Lightning or The black Album by Metallica, Highway to Hell or Back in Black by AC/DC, Paranoid by Black Sabbath. Just a few of the greatest rock and metal albums of the all time. The top 5 must listen to Albums from this list are 1. Appetite for Destruction (The greatest hard rock album ever made) 2. Paronoid (Often considered one of the greatest hard rock and metal albums ever made ) 3. Rust in Peace (The greatest thrash metal album ever) 4. Nevermind (One of the most Iconic albums ever) 5. The Black Album (The highest selling Metal album of all time). Once you react to these mega important albums, you will have a different appreciation to rock and metal music. If you want to grow your channel, you need to give us some different stuff. Just reacting to single songs is fine, but whole albums are even better. You can do a patreon thing where people can pay a subscription fee to react to your full albums reviews, and you can then do an edited video for KZbin so you don't get a copyright strike. These are only suggestions. You need to start differentiating yourself from other music reaction channels if you want to become really popular. I like how you have been doing classic songs from the 6Os and 70s but don't forget the type of music that you started the channel reacting too. If you do decide to do more full album reactions, then you could choose 5 and do a poll to see what people might like to see first. In the end, I am just some random guy that has been listening to music for nearly 45 years. In the end, it is your channel, and you have to do what feels right for you and makes you happy. You should try to see some band live. Must concerts are Iron Maiden, Metallica, (The current) AC/DC, (The new) Pantera, Radiohead, Green Day, Smashing Pumpkins, Foo Fighters, Slayer, Slipknot, Queen + Adam Lambert (A tribute to Freddie). Just to name a few.

With Radiohead, it never hurts to read up on their tracks, they are very open about motivations and inspirations for their music, often recounting stories and specific events etcetera. Also, save yourself the headache, Radiohead doesn't have a particular sound, with each record their sound evolves, they are like Monty Python, they are so different, that they become an entire genre, in and to themselves.

Hard to say what sound they have as they have changed it up so many times. I would recommend checking out ‘Nude’ live From the Basement from them next. Thank you for doing more Radiohead 😊

The Bohemian Rhapsody of the 1990s…. One of my favourite bands of all time. Their evolution from Creep in 1992 to A Moon Shaped Pool in 2016 is flabbergasting. Ok Computer and In Rainbows being my personal favourite albums (boring I know). Weird Fishes from the Basement is an absolute must as well.

I get so hyped watching people experience Radiohead. Hands down, best concert I've ever been to. Life changing. And since I know we're all adding song suggestions to our comments: Talk Show Host Exit Music (For A Film) Both of those were on the soundtrack of the Baz Luhrmann version of Romeo + Juliet.

Love them, their music doesn't get old. The more you listen the more it grows on you. What might sound confusing on first listen becomes more logical and the longer progressions add depth.

What I would give to hear this song and album again for the first time. It’s an entire experience all to its own. Out of left field. Such an original sound for a band with two albums under their belts. Great reaction!

I’m australia, there is an alternative radio station called triple j. Every year they conduct a public poll of the top 100 songs of the year just gone, and then they broadcast the whole list over a day. It’s epic. About a month later, they (used to) release a double album with about 40 of the songs on it. My dad gave me the album for 1997, and my life has never been the same. I was a total pop girl, but open to new things. I was raised on 70s and 80s rock, but mostly listened to top40. Two songs on that disc melted my brain: The Perfect drug by Nine inch nails, and Paranoid Android by Radiohead. I had never heard anything like them before - no boring song structures here! Absolutely wild. Took me about ten listens to finally get it and then I was hooked. Had to hear more. That started my deep love of progressive music, and launched me into the alternative and metal scenes. So this song is very special to me. ❤

Yes, this is Radiohead! Their sound truly evolved into something much more indie-sounding than what it started as. Take a listen to "Karma Police" when you get a moment, which has a similar vibe. Also, if you are feeling adventurous and want to try something a bit out of the mainstream, let me suggest you check out some Blonde Redhead, which has a similarly atmospheric feel to it. Maybe start with "Blonde Redhead - Misery is a Butterfly."

I was a depressed 16yr old dude when this was released and looking back, i love every second of me listening to Ok Computer and The Bends alone in my room back than and searching on a very early internet for every tiny live recording of them in shitty audio-quality. One early live Performance of this song from 1997 stands out to me and is a pretty good demonstration of how good of a band they are and how good Thom York is. From Jools Holland "Radiohead - Paranoid Android (Later Archive 1997)"

I cant recommend listening to the full OK Computer album with headphones enough. It's a full immersion album sorta like the GenX Pink Floyd the Wall. It's also a grows on you with each listen albums. The Bends is also an incredible album.

Strangely I was going to request this one. Dude, you're blowing up and you deserve it. POST-WATCH EDIT: It's your fault for jumping from basic bitch Radiohead to advanced Radiohead in two reactions. You'll understand their evolution and song structure complexity if you listen album by album.

Great commentary as always, Marvin the paranoid android! Agree it is a masterpiece as it follows an unconventional song structure. Street Spirit (Fade Out) for me is an amazing song, dark and eerie with a video that suits that vibe.

Im a little bit surprised you didn't recognize his voice as in Creep he starts out a bit subdued and then goes up in that range that full volume. I do enjoy your reactions. I love artists who real us in and then let us have it like they do.

If you feel like this is different from the other radiohead song - wait til you hear the album Amnesiac. A different vibe again. Like Spinning Plates (original version or special re release) is amazing but probably a quiet listen. Btw when Paranoid Android was released it was HUGE. As weird as it sounds now - for us way back it felt like home. The song Daydreaming off their album A Moon Shaped Pool is probably my favorite Radiohead song of all. Its sound is somehow humble and regretful but uplifting. Worth a listen if its for a video or just for yourself.

RE: video or no video: It really depends on the song/video. haha Some are complimentary, as in it helps to understand the meaning/intention. Others will confuse the meaning, or distract from paying attention to the actual music (example: this one). There's no definitive answer. (except perhaps for always watching the video for a live performance?) Anyway, Radiohead are brilliant & have many different sides to them. "Creep" is from their first album, and they evolved a lot from there!

In addition to songs carrying different meanings for different people. meanings can also change for a person as they have experiences and grow. If you listen to any of the music you're exploring now, say five or ten years from now, you may find that you pull a new meaning from some of them... or all of them.
