Yeah, you should look into music from the 60s abs 70s... Country Joe McDonald "The Fish Cheer/I Feel Like I'm Fixing To Die." Best known version is from Woodstock in 1969 Also, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young "Ohio," released in summer 1970, after the Kent State massacre. Artists calling out the establishment, in their songs, has been going on since the 60s. That's as far back as I know. It might go back even further.
@victor75208 Жыл бұрын
@@Dano_in_Texas I wouldn't be surprised if the names you mentioned inspired RATM. Anti establishment ethos mostly died out by the 80s and Rage brought it back to rock n roll in the 90s and did it in an innovative way.
@davebcf1231 Жыл бұрын
Maybe the first one you knew of, but far, far from the first. As others have mentioned there was a ton of bands that did the same in the 60's and 70's, not to mention this entire genre called punk. Tons of metal bands in the 80's and 90's too.

Growing up in the 90s as a kid this was always considered rock music and played on the rock stations. The fans were rock fans, you can tell by the crowd, obviously Zack raps. I consider his rock based on the instruments. Rage is a political group, you need to listen to the words to their songs. Listen to Down Rodeo, as in Rodeo Drive in LA, with the lyrics. Also do your homework on the group it will help understand them better and appreciate them for who they are.

In my teens in 90's I loved rap, like 2pac, wu-tang clan. But rage was the first CD I bought. A bit earlier, I was gifted a green day - dookie as a cassette. What I'm trying to say, it all works together. Rage has thoughtful rap (public enemy), punk (against establishment and oppression), rock and funk sounds.

The message in the music was always something that was needed to be heard, same with all the punk rock songs, the problem I have with rage is they went from anti-establishment to anti-establishment in favor of the left.
