Also his more recent work became too political for me to enjoy and it ruined the experience for me. But hey, what do I know? Everyone else is talking about the same four songs from the same release. They are clearly more informed than *I* whom listened to his post 2000 releases...

One of the best and a really nice man. This man is in his '80s and is still performing. He opened a club in Nashville Tennessee about 2 years before covid hit. We went to his New Year's Eve show there and it was fabulous. It's called CabaRay! He's just reopened!! Ray us a three-time Grammy award winner. His song Everything is Beautiful gained one granny. It's well worth the listen. I think he started out writing songs in Nashville for country artists. He's mostly classified as country/pop. We listened to him when I was young and I introduced my children to him. We had a couple of his albums on cassettes and listened to him on every road trip we made as a family and that was quite a few. My favorite of his comedy songs and they're all originals by the way, are The Streak, The Shriners Convention, and Guitarzan!

Omg y’all taking me back to vacation bible school at my grandma’s in South Carolina. My mom was an atheist so my grandma made sure to put me into every freaking event at her church when I’d come visit for the summer. (They were appalled by me bc I didn’t know any bible verses and thought Noah’s arc was a fairy tale.) But they’d sometimes let us have these fun days when they weren’t teaching us about our lord and savior and they’d play Ray Steven’s music for us kids. The 1st year I thought he was hilarious, my last year (I was 12) I had decided he was corny af. But this song makes me think of my time surrounded by ppl with intense southern accents at my grandmother’s free will Baptist church, trying to get me (I was severely ADHD) to remember just one bible verse. They resorted to bribery and a combo of cheese popcorn and bubble gum finally resulted in me learning one bible verse. I still remember part of it, something like ~for god so loved the world he gave his only begotten son so we might not perish and have everlasting life.

@@SousChef77 when I went to Salvation Army camp I used that verse I learned so they wouldn’t think I was a complete heathen. I didn’t know it was a religious camp, I just knew poor kids like me got to go to camp. I think I got saved 4 times at that camp. I didn’t know it was supposed to be a one off thing, and the ppl seemed so happy every time they saved me. I remember one old, lady gave me a sharks tooth bc I started crying, and I remember not understanding why she looked so happy even though I was legit bawling. Later I realized my reaction would give some one like her the feels. That my tears were a testament to my emotional reaction to Jesus.
