@@rogergerzner9656 It's from an event called The Rolling Stones Rock'n'Roll Circus, various bits of which (and at one point the whole thing, IIRC) have appeared on YT at one time or another. Everyone was into creating 'happenings' and surreal conceptual art/performances around that late 60s period, like the Beatles' Magical Mystery Tour and Sergeant Pepper's. The audience here are in multi-coloured waterproof capes because stuff was getting sprayed around, like at the circus. If you're a John Lennon fan, do check out Yer Blues from this same show; Lennon on vocals with an impromptu back-up supergroup that includes Eric Clapton and Keith Richards, calling themselves collectively The Dirty Mac...Yoko helps out by climbing into a bag and doing something with a sanitary towel. I try to put it into perspective when I start thinking like that (which I do). I'm in my mid 60's. I grew up on the Beatles & Stones and all the other great artists of the 60's & 70's. I was also quite familiar with 50's music as a teen. What I was not familiar with and can guarantee I would have had no interest in, is music from the 1910's through the 1940's all music 50-60 years before I was a teen. So, it's not surprising to me that most teens & younger people today have no interest in what they consider "outdated" music (as we gasp). I will venture a guess & say most teens & young adult in the 60's & 70's were not listening to music from the turn of the century. :)

@1nelsondj3 жыл бұрын
I prefer the studio version which starts with starts with a children's choir. This one dropped a verse ("I went down to the demonstration, to get my fair share of abuse,") and also drops the piano and return of the choir and the band speeds up for the climax. This was from their project "The Rock and Roll Circus" which had other performers such as Jethro Tull, The Who, Taj Mahal, Marianne Faithfull and The Dirty Mac (a 1-time group of John Lennon, Eric Clapton, Keith Richards and Mitch Mitchell with Yoko Ono). Because The Who was fresh off of a tour they were primed and their performance stole the show. The Stones looked tired from being up for 2 days and they ended up shelving the project for 27 years. You need to check out The Who performing 'A Quick One (While He's Away)' from this show. Amazing.

I don't think I've ever seen anyone react to "A Quick One" before. But to me it's one of the greatest live performances ever with The Who going to town on a tiny stage!

I completely agree. The studio version is so EPIC. I am glad that the tempo is accurate in this video. In later years, they slowed this song down so much I didn't enjoy it nearly as much. It's got my favorite groove of any Stones song and they kind of ruin it with the slower tempo IMO.
@camicawber3 жыл бұрын

The 'heavenly choir' intro on YCAGWYW works brilliantly and does definitely take the studio recording up a notch or ten, but, on the other hand, watching the mesmerising Mr Jagger perform his moves, while simultaneously sneering at and seducing audience and camera, tends to take your mind off any quibbles with the plainer (though still super funky) live arrangement... All up, I couldn't really say which I prefer. To listen to, the studio version is number one for sure, but visually and dynamically, this live performance is such fun to watch, it's a winner too, for me.

Agreed! Also love the French horn in the studio version. I don't necessarily love the choir; in fact I'm not sure how much I even like this song since there's so many better Stones songs out there. But I think the studio version is much more in keeping with what the Stones intended: Big production, big choir, long song length, etc. But it sure is great to watch a live performance of the song while Mick Jagger was still taking his songs seriously. (By the mid-1980s and later, he seems mostly wanting "to play the part" of Mick Jagger, like a caricature.)

You really should do the studio version of this song. Completely different vibe with choirs.

Saw Rolling Stones in concert. Mick Jagger ran back & forth from the side of the stage to the other.

The studio version, has a huge choir, so it sounds different. You needed to see them perform anyway.

This is a completely different different version than the one that was recorded in the studio, and played on the radio. It's a good version (Live) but not nearly as long, or good in my opinion. This was sort of a short film made by the Band as a promotional thing. Welcome to Mick Jagger's world of Rock and Roll. He's still dancing like that today at age 77 or 78!

This was JFK jr's favorite song, they say he used to blast it through out the house repeatedly.

Quite a trick. JFK was dead 5 years before this songs release.

Terrific song but not one of the bands strongest IMO. Seems to lose its way after a while. But still a classic Stones

Okay guys. I'm 58. One reason I love you guys is the freshness you display when hearing a song for the first time. The fact Amber knows some of the songs takes nothing away from the joy I get. She loses no excitement and it's really quite cool. And when you ask what they were on. Take your choice and youd probably guess right! Amazing Keith Richard's is still alive. Lots of needles. And yes, Mick Jaggar is the lead singer.

Lots and lots of great hits from the Stones. My favs are "Paint it Black" and "Jumping Jack Flash". I had a budgie that used to go nuts rocking it to "Mother's Little Helper". LOL
