Roxette is the 2nd biggest music export from Sweden (1# is ABBA). It's a duo that was active from the 80's until 2016, when the singer, Marie Fredriksson, was too ill to continue touring. She had battled cancer (brain tumor) since 2002 and she sadly passed away in 2019. 💔🕯

Marie Fredriksson had a very much darker songwriting mood and tended to jazz and blues in her own music. (she was a huge solo artist in Sweden first). Per Gessle wrote most of the songs for Roxette and he is a 4 chord pop melody genius. From memory he wrote this one about a friend contemplating divorce.

Thank you for another great video reaction!🌷🌷🌷🌷 Marie's voice was something else❤ It's from a concert at the Borgholm castle ruin at the island of Öland, you see the bridge going over there in the beginning. Summer concerts there are beautiful because the sun hardly goes down. The Swedish Royal family has their summer residence there and always casually attends the concerts. Our Crown Princess and future Queen has her birthday in the middle of July and there's a great birthday musical tribute held yearly in her honour on Öland.

@Dereck Reacts : well, there are three versions of this masterpiece that came out at the same year. The first one is the album version. The second one is the swedish single edit. Both are the same but the first has a strings fade out you'll find only in the album. The swdish single edit is the most known of the three and i bet that you have this one in your mind that you've heard in the past. Now, the version used for the video, is the US Single Version wich came out for the american radio broadcasters. It's a little shorter and it uses different electric piano arrangement. The vocals used on the three versions are the same. extra-info for you: the video was shot at the Borgholm Castle in Sweden. Roxette played at that day a complete concert and two videos were shot at the same day. Listen to your heart was the first and the second was Dangerous

Enough about Marie, (no offense, she’s AMAZING) but Per is a genius in his own right. My first exposure to him was when he put the Dorothy Parker poem “Threnody” to music for Frida’s first English album, “Something’s Going On”. He is a prolific songwriter and can create ear worms on the same par as Benny and Bjorn although his lyricism is rather banal and lacks the storytelling of the fore mentioned above. His solo album “World According to Gessle” stands as one of the greatest collection of pop music in existence. Now back to Marie, you may want to check out “Alla Mina Basta Ar” on Frida’s final solo album, “Djupa Andetag” where Marie sings duet with Frida. Frida first asked Agnetha to sing with her but Agnetha declined for fear that it would incite reunion rumors (perish the thought). The two sound great together. It’s worth a reaction !
