Salt N Pepa were ground breaking back in the late 80's and early 90's, they were the first female rap/hip hop group to hit gold and platinum status, the first (along with Queen Latifah) to win a Grammy, and they're still one of the highest selling rap artists of all time. They influenced fashion in a huge way, and they were not afraid to say what was on their mind in their songs. "Let's Talk About Sex" was not what you heard from anyone back then, but it was important, and started conversations about safe sex that people really needed to be having. And at 48, its STILL hard to sit still when this song comes on.

4:20 “ain’t many songs like this”...nope not in today’s music but back in the day All The music was like this. Plenty of songs w energy like this that make you want to get up and dance. Songs that you just can’t sit still when they come on. 70s, 80s, 90s music was like no other. Pick any genre during those decades and it was all hot. Glad I lived during those times. The new millennium came along w it’s own sound of music that was good for about a decade. To me it’s never been the same. Only a handful of songs are worth being on my playlist after about 2010. Just my opinion though

That's what I was thinking! This was always played in the last half-hour of our middle school dances, I swear. By then, all the girls were dancing with each other (having given up on the awkward boys) and it was just rowdy fun. I'll admit I still shake it when this song comes on because it's so much fun.

The sad part, the current music industry’s are stripping away the opportunity for today’s youth to experience in it’s entirety. Back in the day, we knew artist like Aretha, Chaka, Gladys knight, and Patti because music didn’t have an age cut off.

It's not anyone's fault. The is issue is that media is no longer "mass". We used to hear old songs on the radio, in movie soundtracks, and even commercials. Now people watch youtube. That's what these guys are doing. Creating a venue to revisit these great songs in the new format. RIP the oldies station on the radio...

One drunken karaoke night, my friend and I decide to sing this song together randomly at a place we visited almost weekly, forgetting that there's not many lyrics. During the musical parts we didn't know what to do so we started dancing and encouraging others. Next thing we new, the entire bar was dancing in the area in front of the stage, even after we finished the song, and the next person came up, the dancing was still going on. It became a weird mixture of dancing and karaoke and it was one of the funnest karaoke nights I ever had. Honestly I have no idea why a Karaoke bar would have a song with such little singing, but I couldn't argue with the results.

@greglegakis41774 жыл бұрын
@21stcenturyenigma Well I was partially joking but you can't say "not at all" either. There's no question Wild Thing was heavily influenced by Push It.
@whumanbard4 жыл бұрын
@@greglegakis4177 , actually it was not. SNP were MC's in the tradition of RUN DMC. Tone Loc, a rapper not an MC, (nor Young MC who wrote most of the lyrics) was not influenced very much by the East Coast sound. And c'mon, Hurby Azor's synth and production vs. sampling VH's "Jamie's Cryin'"? Definitely not the same. When Wild Thing came out, it took a long time for East Coast stations that played rap to play it because it was from the West Coast. Pop stations embraced it first because the lyrics were catchy and cheeky. Lastly, Push It came out late 1986/early 1987. Wild Thing didn't hit until Spring 1989, so you're talking about two different hip hop style eras.
