Do. Not. Apologize. I’m straight and cried when I heard and saw this in 2012. A little backstory. His gay uncles inspired the lyrics. It came out when same sex marriage was on the Washington state referendum. Macklemore felt the urgency to stand up to homophobia in his own genre, which was really brave 10 years ago. Also, it was important to have the talented Mary Lambert featured as she represents the lgbt community. Don’t ever lose your compassion. We need more people like you that wear their heart on their sleeve and just feel. ❤️

That line "No freedom till we're equal, dam right I support it" and then that wind instrument whatever it is trumpet etc comes in and it's so sad. That's where I lost it and started crying and I'm straight white male.

This song is the reason maybe hundreds of kids are alive today. These guys saved lives, changed minds. I always think about the kids like me who weren't able to love who they wanted to love and who they wanted to be in a world of equals. The ones who had no way to change it. The generations in centuries past. Pride is important. It is not just flamboyance and colout. It is a protest. It is about being seen. It is a plea. It is a demand. For civil rights. For equal rights. Thank you for reacting. We all matter.

i remember when this was released, it was such a special feeling. even today in 2023 its so rare for an artist in macklemore's position to show this level of direct and unapologetic support even to this day i tear up when i listen to this. the lyrics are sadly still as relevant as ever, but it just makes me feel less alone

I'm so glad I stumbled upon your channel and this reaction you shared with us. I am not personally LGBTQ but I grew up in the south attending Southern Baptist church multiple times per week and what was told to us never felt good, but it wasn't until college when I met, and became close friends, with those in that community that everything felt good again and I was eagerly confident in discarding the dogma that was infused into me as a kid and embrace the truth that we should all be loved as this is just a short blip in our shared history and we should embrace each others differences. That is what *can* make humans great. EDIT: It looks as though you don't do this any longer, but I subscribed anyhow. Be good.

I just found this reaction to the song. I love your reaction. I'm not lgbtq+ but i totally support them and their movement. Why is it so wrong for some for others to love who they love? People talk about loving each other all the time yet when it comes to the lgbtq+ they are not included in what is suppose to be a very inclusive society. Not just here in the U.S. but around the world. Love doesn't chose who is to be loved and who isn't so why do people chose that?

I love the juxtaposition with his birth and the love between his mother and him, and the death of his husband and his love for his husband. Oof, I worded that awkwardly. Anyway, it makes me cry every time. Beautiful video ❤️ Thanks for reacting

I still can’t listen to this song without thinking of Blue’s Clue’s and the noises that Blue made on the show. It sounds just like the little background loop of “buh buh” which I assume is done by Mary. I never watched that show but my little brother did and hearing that damn dog about drove my pre-teen self up the fucking wall. I don’t mean anything by it, it’s just that I get those “bah bah”s stuck in my head sounding like Blue on loop after hearing this song🤣

No offense to religious people but who cares what some stupid book says, this is real life and people have real feelings. It just means a dude (she-her, he-him, they-them, or whatever you want to be called) likes another dude or a lady (or whatever you would like to be called) likes another lady, nothing, absolutely NOTHING wrong with that. I'm lesbian and before I came out, I layed on my bed and thought about everything while listing to "same love" over and over again.
