Santana is an icon. He brought Latin jazz into rock. His sound is unique and so groovy. One of my favorite bands of all time. 'Abraxas' is one of the best albums ever created.

Carlos doesn't sing a lot himself but he gets top vocalists to lend their voices. As a totally random viewer, I'd suggest you check out "Smooth" ft Rob Thomas, ranked #3 on Billboard's All Time Hot 100.

Yeah, Smooth is a good tune, but I much prefer his collaboration with Michelle Branch on "Game of Love" or Mana for "Corizon Espinado" for a big Latin sound. Rob sounds as though he is chewing on his words in "Smooth" & I don't care for that habit.

Any version is good, but if you want relaxing, try the acoustic cover by Ottmar Leibert. About halfway through Carlos joins in on electric and the two flow together beautifully.

Any of Santana's first three albums is a great place to start. Moonflower is another amazing one. Santana is so versatile and varied in his musical style, he really has no style other than AMAZING! Seen him a few times, every time is special because he plays with the best musicians

Santana is near the top of my list and has been for around 50 years. He is wonderful live and I was so lucky to see his Smooth tour live, but the bredth of his musical journey takes your breath away. He is instantly recognizable in any setting, truly unique and, yes, very sexy! He has some very memorable duets. Smooth is wonderful with Rob Thomas. My favorite is The Healer with John Lee Hooker. So glad you started reviewing him!

I was privileged to see Santana often in the 60s. I lived in Haight Ashbury from 1967 to 1970 and they played around the Haight scene. ❤❤❤ them….still incredible music. The last time I saw them was around 2013 in a small club (New George’s) in San Rafael, CA in Marin County. I went to see Michael Nardo and about half way through the set, Michael brought Carlos up on stage….OMG…..what a fun night 🎼🎼🎼🎼🎼🎼🎼♥️♥️♥️

A living legend! Mr. Santana has been my favorite artist for over 50 years. An endless wealth of superb music he has supplied us with. He might not sing much but he makes the guitar sing! Suggest you try the version of Europa on the Moonflower album. Great double album. Transcendence and the Zombies tune She's Not There are nice. Santana puts so much feeling into every note. Get SANTANASIZED! Lifetime worth of his music out there for you. Guarantee you won't regret it!

Santana is one of the finest guitarists ever to live! Samba Pa Ti is my fave by him, but you should really check out Santana in the beginning. He and his band played Woodstock before they were known. As a matter of fact they hadn't even released their first album yet! Carlos said in an interview that they had a few hours before going onstage so they ate some peyote. They were called to the stage early and were flying high during their performance! Definitely check out "Soul Sacrifice" from that concert. Nobody knew who he was and the crowd was blown away! You will be blown away too! Also, imo Santana is amazing at covering other artist's songs. He seems to elevate them. "She's Not There" which is a Zombies song is a great example. So is Fleetwood Mac's "Black Magic Woman", although I still love the original by Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac. Carlos doesn't sing but most of his songs do have vocals. He has other people sing

I saw Santana in 1967 in a club in Sacramento called The Sound Factory. Quite a memorable evening, the room was jammed packed, wiggle room only. Based on your interests I have viewed today, might I suggest a couple of tunes I think you will enjoy. Sugerloaf - Green Eyed Lady, which to me is a musical odyssey and The Bee Gees - Too Much Heaven. I feel very confident that there are a number of Bee Gee songs you will enjoy especially the early tunes from the 60s, however you do seem to enjoy the more upbeat of disco as well that they also have in their broad musical career. Recommended by me, a 69 year old former hippy chick.

Carlos Santana is well-versed in jazz and classical music and it has influenced his playing for years. Note at 16:45-17:19 in the video how he weaves the melody of 1939's "Aquarela Do Brasil" by Ary Barroso (simply titled "Brazil" in the U.S.--and is often performed as a jazz standard here) in to "Samba Pa Ti." In other live performances, he will weave the melody of Gabor Szabo and Bobby Womak's "Breezin'" into "Samba Pa Ti" (Szabo was a heavy influence on Santana's playing), and also the melody of the 1930 Latin jazz tune "El Manisero" ("Peanut Vendor"). Though those tune references fly right over the head of most Santana listeners, Carlos Santana includes them intentionally as a professional tip of the hat to Latin and jazz music writers and performers who influenced his style.

I got to see/hear them in a free outdoor concert a month before their first album came out when they were still called "The Carlos Santana Blues Band". First time checking out your videos. Gratifying to see youngsters discovering the power. Recommend you go early off-road: "Sons Of Champlin" - the album 'Loosen Up Naturally' 1969 and the songs 'Freedom' or 'Get High'. (Although 'Get High' has a gimmick it is a very interestingly constructed song that will satisfy what you are looking for.) If you are interested in another case of underappreciated 'san francisco sound' greatness: "It's a Beautiful Day" 1969 and the songs 'Hot Summer Day', 'Wasted Union Blues'...then you'll be ready for 'Time Is'.

The first time I heard Santana was when I listened to/watched him live at Woodstock. No doubt he was one at the top of my list of great guitarists immediately. Woodstock put him front & center since it was his first huge appearance. The rest is history❣️ Definitely not weird to say music is sexy .. well unless I'm weird too .. lol. The sax does that for meevery time. Have to agree with u Salvo here .. the entire melody is sexy. Yes some of his songs do have lyrics but he doesn't sing a lot. Glad you enjoyed these tracks. Have a nice evening. 😊✌🏼

Carlos quotes a number of other songs during his solos - for example, at the 8:30 mark he goes into Marvin Gaye's "I Want You". There are a number of other song quotes. He reminds me of jazz legend saxophonist Dexter Gordon with the quotes. The drummer is the very famous jazz drummer Dennis Chambers. If you want to do another Santana song in the future, try the criminally underrated "Brightest Star" from the 1981 Zebop! album. The guitar work and vocals are extraordinarily emotional.

I regrettably never saw Santana live but he is a virtuoso guitarist with a long history of incredible collaborations, especially with John McLaughlin. Yes, instrumental music can be very sensual, even without vocals. I prefer Santana's music prior to about 1980 and his Woodstock performance is historic. His arrangements of older tunes like Samba Pa Ti and Moonflower in later years are magnificent. Santana is another deep rabbit hole.

Yes music can be sexy. Especially those latin rhythms. Can't remember if I've ever seen Carlos sing but his band always has great vocalists. Most of their songs have vocals, you just happened to pick two instrumentals, my two favourites actually. I've seen a lot of videos of these two songs and he never does them the same. Each time it's a bit different and never exactly like the original album versions. Sometimes he really rips it up on Europa. If I had to rank him among the top guitarists he would definitely be in the top 10, maybe even the top 5. If you like that latin rhythm, may I suggest some Gloria Estefan & The Miami Sound Machine - "Conga" and "Rhythm Is Gonna Get You".

Top tip, "Samba Pa Ti" original studio version, just sit back and let it roll over you, you will love it. Also the track called "Black Magic Woman" as well as "Oyez Como Va" - just two more off the top of the head there, all studio if possible, he really worked hard in the studio. I have just subscribed after watching your recent Elton John reaction and seeing your fantastic choice of music to react to. BUT there is something missing from your back catalogue, you haven’t yet reacted to Dire Straits “ sultans of swing (Alchemy Live edition)”, It IS one of the best live performances of any song ever imho, add to that the virtuosity of Mark Knopfler’s guitar playing, and songwriting and his unique singing style and the fun the band appear to be having, and it explains why so many people have reacted to it and got massive like counts. Ahhhh Carlos Santana.
