This song is the essence of my memories of growing up in the 1970s...fragrance of the flowers in my mom's backyard, dinners in the kitchen, hanging out with my friends and sisters, riding my bike, walking to the park! SO many sweet smells and sounds of summer saturate my soul! Mom's warm hugs and sweet smells from the kitchen, wafting through the screen door! Carefree days of June, July, August and September! That's the true spirit of Summer Breeze! Classic! 😃💮

They were definitely part of that early '70s singer songwriter movement. Along with the likes of Jim Croce, James Taylor, John Denver, Joni Mitchell, Carole King, etc etc. I always thought they brought a little something different to the genre. They were my favorites back in the day. I saw them three times in concert. The second time England Dan and John Ford Coley opened for them. I just love Dash's mandolin playing. The two times I saw them in downtown Chicago, after the concert, they handed out booklets (I still have mine) and talked about their Baha'i faith. Then they invited anyone who wanted to to join them to go to the Baha'i Temple in Wilmette. I recommend some lesser known songs of theirs, "Windflowers", "The Boy Down The Road" and "Follow Me", but you can't go wrong with any of their songs.

This song instantly takes me back to my home growing up as a kid in Iowa. The “summer breeze” I think of is coming through the window of my bedroom while I’m drifting off to sleep, not a care in the world! There’s so much of this song that takes me back! “See the paper layin' on the sidewalk”. “So I walk on up to the doorstep Through the screen and across the floor”. This reminds me of bounding out our back screen door and hearing Mom holler, don’t let that door slam, as it always did! “And I come home from a hard day's work And you're waiting there”. This reminds me of my Dad greeting Mom after work! This is probably my second favorite song of all time. First is More Than A Feeling!

This is one of those soft rock AM radio gems that defined my childhood before hard rock entered my life. I had a little clock radio that sat on the windowsill by my bed where I heard Summer Breeze, Brandy, Take It To The Limits, Do It Again, and so many other songs that my friends were starting to call "bubblegum." Within a couple years it was Alice Cooper and Led Zeppelin, etc. But I heard an interview recently with David Bowie's female bass player. Guess what her favorite music is (because of the soundscapes and production values)? The soft music of the 70's, such as this. Beautiful stuff.

Seals and Crofts as well as The Isley Brothers released Summer Breeze and sang it very well. But Seals & Crofts released it first in 1972, claiming to #6 on the Hot-100. The Isley Brothers followed it up with pride in 1973, #60 on the Hot-100 and 10th on the R&B chart! I love both of versions. The takes are different...but the true essence of the song is captured very well!

This was their first hit. They had 3 or 4 others, but I always liked the second, Hummingbird. The third, Diamond Girl, is also good.

Never thought I'd see a seals and crofts reaction..love this song, but then again I'm a product of the very early 70's

RIP Jim, he's in Music Heaven now with his brother Dan Seals (aka England Dan). I think you 2 would LOVE England Dan & John Ford Coley's "Love Is The Answer"!

This would fall into what in the last 5-10yrs has been called "Yacht Rock", I guess due to the beach-y vibe and mellowness. Originally, it likely would have been categorized as "Folk-Rock", just "Folk" or even more simply "Soft Rock".

They were huge for a short time, but I always thought they would be classified as 'Folk music', at least at the time I was into hard rock Hendrix, Zeppelin, Stones etc. so they seemed 'folk'. You could here the pure talent though, even for a young rocker.

The flip side of the single was East of Ginger Trees, which is one of the least discovered great songs and a particular favorite due to its unusual beat. Well worth checking that one out too!
