You should read the lyrics. Its about Josef mengele and all the vile inhuman experiments he used to do.. been a slayer fan since day 1, the best line up was with the original drummer dave lombardo, also known as the godfather of double bass🤘🤘🤘

There's an irony in her saying that the lyrics are hard to understand. Tom's vocals has good enunciation compared to the death metal style that came afterwards, where the "cookie monster" vocal effects became much more in vogue. This is from my favorite Slayer album, but they became much more dynamic in 1990 with Seasons of the Abyss when they slowed down a bit. Made them sound even heavier.

I think people say that out of ignorance tbh. There’s no way you can’t understand Tom. He enunciates his words with the best in thrash metal. And the lyrical phrasing is unique too in Slayer’s music which makes it all the more impressive how clearly Tom sings.

PASSION! Mrs. BP2 gets it!!! See, I fucking knew you'd get it, I didn't think you'd like it BUT I KNEW YOU'D GET IT! PASSION! BP2, this song is about Mengele, the Holocaust and man's cruel nature. I know "Seasons in the Abyss" is long but it is "mellow" and got a ton of radio play in the day. The music, Thrash, is a release, almost like a drug. There have been several studies done on aggressive music fans and we actually tend to be more relaxed and even keel. It definitely is not for everyone. So, Mrs. BP2, thank you for a sincere attempt at my beloved Slayer. You are a true lady and I could never be mad at someone just because we don't agree. That’s why I always say first time reaction should be studio recording. To get you to understand why people like this I’ll ask you this. Have you ever had a bad day? Just a real shitty day and you just wanted to scream all the anger and anxiety out of you. This music does that for the listener. The chaos, the speed, the angst is already there for you to just plug in turn on and tune out and decompress those feelings so you don’t go and punch someone, or yell at someone. Metal is a genre that is almost like that punching bag in the gym it gets you stronger but it also releases stress. This music has saved me from a whole host of bad situations that would have happened if I didn’t have this to vent through.

Slayer was the extreme end of the big 4 Anthrax was the goofy end Megadeth was the angry, bitter, then political end. Metallica waa for beginners looking for something heavier than Iron Maiden, but not too much heavier. You bring Megadeth to a political rally You bring Anthrax to a hip hop club You bring Slayer to a battlefield You bring Metallica to meet your grandparents because grandma loves Bob Seger and Metallica does Bob Seger covers now. They aren't metal, they're a wet blanket. Chuck Schuldiner and Death laid waste to them all because he raised the bar

I had to check my playback speed to make sure I didn’t have it still jacked up from some other slow-talking video. Notice there wasn’t very many crowd shots. Who wants to see a bunch of 14 yr old, long-haired, sweaty, pubescent boys, all nodding there heads at 2000bpm, in unison, while flashing the horns sign with both fists. 🤘🤘 I wonder if Malakai Bayoh and Slayer would ever consider getting together for a collaboration? Seems like a natural fit. 🤪 Wasn’t Slayer the band that Beavis and Butt-head’s younger friend liked and they were always making fun of him for it? Another comment said the song was about Joseph Mengele? Really? Did I miss the outcry for an honorary Joseph Mengele song to be made? I thought he was one of history’s characters, best left on the dung heap of oblivion. But maybe I’m just prejudiced and not confessing guilt for my American privilege. (or some other nonsensical jargon like that you hear the “intellectuals” throwing around these days.) The ever-easy-on-the-eyes Mrs BP2 gets the thumbs up for this video.

You, for the most part, are right about Slayer, but this particular song was about Joseph Mengele. Just a little reminder of who Joseph Mengele was. He was the German Doctor who experimented on the Jews in Hitler's Concentration Camps during World War II. Joseph Mengele was known as the "Angle of Death." He was, without a doubt, one of the worst people to ever live on Planet Earth. If you remember him, you remember how bad he was. If you don't, read the lyrics to "Angel of Death" by Slayer, and you might get an idea.

Slayer gigs were the best. They always ended with Angel of Death, the last chance to dance. As I'm sure everyone has told you already, the song's about Mengele. Tom Araya actually enunciates very clearly. Live recordings are always messy, depending on the production and the band's condition and, of course, the genre, etc. For some fun drumming, you could watch Tomas Haake's (Meshuggah) drum cams or maybe Wintersun's Sons of Winter and Stars (live rehearsal). Probably not a very popular pick for more Slayer, but give Disciple a whirl. Slayer isn't particularly obscure, though. Hell, go folk metal and listen to Finntroll, maybe the song Nedgång or perhaps Nattfödd or how about Svartberg or Skogens hämnd (just not Trollhammaren, because everyone and their cat always does that one).

This song is about Josef Mengele, Aushchwitz doctor nicknamed the Angel Of Death for all the horrible experiments he did on prisoners at Aushchwitz. It isn't a glorification song. It is descriptive of the evil of that man, and the horrors of all the victims. It's a stark look at actual history, which is usually toned down in books, which in turn takes the reality out of the history and dooms us to repeat it. This song makes you look at it, feel sickened by it, in the hopes enough people know how horrible war is, especially to the prisoners, and maybe stop doing it.
