김소향 (Kim, So-hyang) is a South Korean singer who uses 소향 (Sohyang) as her stage name. She's up there with Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, and Céline Dion, according to David Foster, who worked with all of them, plus other big names in the music industry, such as Aretha Franklin, Barbra Streisand, Stevie Wonder, and Michael Jackson. They were all amazed. Foster invited Sohyang to sing on his tour in Asia. She did 8 shows in 4 days in Tokyo. He and his ex-wife wrote that song. He co-arranged and produced it for Whitney for her album, and her performance in "The Bodyguard". Foster has won 16 Grammy Awards, including 3 for Producer of the Year, and has been nominated a total of 47 times. --- Her full name is "김소향 (Kim, So-hyang)", but she leaves out her surname in her stage name, "소향 (Sohyang)". Here's the breakdown of the Hangul symbols in her full name: 김소향 (Kim, So-hyang) 김 = ㄱ ㅣ ㅁ (k i m) 소 = ㅅ ㅗ (s o) 향 = ㅎ ㅑ ㅇ (h ya ng) Google Translate in Detect Language mode pronounces them decently. However, the proper pronunciation of her stage name can be heard before the start of her Immortal Songs 2 performance of "Bridge Over Troubled Water", when the host introduces her as "SOH hee-yahng". The "hee" part is very quick and subtle, almost like a puff of air after the "h" sound carried over from the stressed "SOH" syllable. Note that the "ahng" sound uses the first and last phonemes (syllable components) of "awe" and "song", respectively; it isn't "uhng" or "ohng" as too many non-Korean folks claim. --- I'm surprised you reviewed her epic performance that's filled with gospel belts. Most folks have to build up to that level by starting with a more classic pop song and incrementally work their way to "Everyone" or "Dream".

This is like a 7 minutes long master class in the art of singing! Sohyang beeing the pro that she is says this was her most technically challening song she has ever done! This since it requires a huge amount of breath support. With that in time i'd say this is her most definitive "don't try this at home" performance!! There's a big difference between "singing from the heart" cause you've know how to do it and to really do it cause you believe every word you sing like Sohyang. As you noticed she sang her very heart and soul out here no holding back. She's the real deal as far from fakery you could possibly come in a world build on fakery,gimmick, shallowness/superficialty.

Guys, welcome. An important tip. You are missing the power of this performance by not seeing the complete message Sohyang delivers in the lyrics. If you plan to do any more of Sohyang's performance videos, before you start your reaction, type the exact title of the performance into the YT Search Bar and type 'english subtitles' at the end. This was a very good thing and a very bad thing,it was good because here you saw the very best of Sohyang,this was her opus and I don't believe she or anyone else will ever top this performance ,It was perfect in every aspect like the stars aligned perfectly for this one moment,and bad because as it was your first experience of her you will compete ever song to this which in my opinion is not a fair fight,know don't think that I am downplaying her other songs because if you deep dive into her work you will see greatness in most everything she does she is just that good.so with that being said having watched her at her absolute peak I think the next logical step would be One Million Roses from again Immortal Songs but more recent to see another magical performance of a song she radically changed from it's original form and of course her voice is just as fabulous as it was then,so please enjoy the musical journey you won't regret one single second have fun guys😊

When you do other reactions to So Hyang, please do just the least amount of research and find a version with ENG SUBs. They almost always exist. So Hyang has several songs in all English but there are several either all Korean or part Korean, part English. I also advise that you do some research on the life of So Hyang, from being a cancer survivor ant age 20 to now in her mid 40's. It's quite inspirational. So Hyang has taken her God given talent and, through incredibly disciplined hard work, become one of the greatest singers of all time. Yet she cares more about comforting and encouraging those going through hard times than becoming rich and famous.
