After the band Stray Cats, the lead singer Brian Setzer started a retro-swing band called The Brian Setzer Orchestra and had another hit song called “Jump, Jive, and Wail”.

Guitarist and lead singer Brian Setzer of Stray Cats popularized the Rockabilly sound that started out in the 1950's and went into 1960/1961. After Stray Cats, Brian Setzer brought back the Big Band sound of the 1940's and other bands did the same sound which did became very popular in the late 1980's and into the 1990's. Many couples went to dance schools to learn Big Band dances during that time.

Mr Boyd the Stray Cats spearheaded a revival of the 50's style of music known as Rockabilly. After the Stray Cats were done the lead singer/guitarist helped revive another form of music from wayback - big band swing- with his band The Brian Setzer Orchestra. He won a Grammy for his work with the orchestra. Also both of these songs were hits for The Stray Cats. They were big on MTV back when they still played music videos.

As a teen I wore out the Stray Cat cassette cranked in the car driving with the wind blowing and usually on the way to hang at the beach.. It was singable, groovy and fun. The girls and I would cram in the old VW bug and head off to find boys and bonfires. Ah, the good old days. I'd forgotten... thanks.

These two songs were both singles and their biggest hits. In the 80s, rockabilly was old fashioned music. Then these young guys came along who didn't care, the liked the music and played it. They made rockabilly cool again.

Brian Setzer went from a skinny kid with a wild hair-do, to a Rock and Roll Legend. He's responsible for bringing Rockabilly back, and later bringing back Big Band/Swing. One of his traditions was his Christmas Special DVDs. Check that out this year... 🤙🌲⛄ He unfortunately had to retire in recent years due to tinnitus.

This style of music is known as "Rockabilly." In the mid 1950s when Elvis, Chuck Barry, Little Richard, and all the rest of them introduced "Rock and Roll, There started to be an offshoot that was sort of a combination of Rock and Roll, infused with Hillbilly, or Redneck style music. Brian Setzer (guitar and lead vocals) is an amazing guitarist.

I feel like The Stray Cats have always been a little underrated. I was in high school in the late 80s and my peers liked it when they came on the radio, but I was the only one of my friends who was actually liked them enough to buy albums and rock the cassettes in my car. Through my whole life when I say the name Brain Setzer it is rare for someone to know who I'm talking about. I guess my suggestion would the "Gene and Eddie"

I agree with you they would have been one heck of a band in the 50's and would be on all the "oldies" albums, but they still even in the "modern age" made a mark in the industry . I did and may still have there first album released in the US but where it is I am not sure of having moved several times since my youth when I first got it, in fact it very well may be on cassette tape and not a record, sadly tape players are few and far between these days.

You should look into some recent stuff from Brian Setzer. He's still going strong, and still amazing. He got a fantastic Christmas tour, called "The Brian Setzer Orchestra Christmas Extravaganza." His Rockabilly spin on classic Christmas songs is a real treat! It's Rockabilly fused with Big Band swing.

Personally, I prefer the official video of the Stray Cat Strut, but it's a great song and a wonderfully talented band. A very unique style and sound for the 80s. Kind of a throwback to the 50s-2nd song-kind of Rockabilly style. Love both of these songs.

They first appeared with a groove called 'Runaway Boys' - on the radio. Used to have to wait days sometimes to hear a record played again. Then one night they did an interview and played live. First time EVER airing their new song - Stray Cat Strut. I recorded it off the radio. Then they released it as a single but I always preferred "My" version that I had pirated that night. Capital Radio - London 1980 .. .. .

I've heard that the first drummer of the Stray Cats had a problem with gambling, and would often offer parts of his drum kit to cover bets. This behavior cost him his position in the band, when Brian Setzer came on stage to prepare for a show, and the drummer's kit was down to a single snare drum. He was supposedly a great drummer, but his inability to protect his instruments from his vices had become too much of a liability to the band.
