He actually did this on live shows. Bodyguards would pick him up as a doll under their arm and put him on stage! And then he would come to life!

In this song he tells his own story. He lost his father in rwandan genocide in 1994. But he wanted to describe the feeling of all children like him who grew up without their father. I listened to this song the first time in 2013 but it is always one of my favorite song.

Stromae grew up without his father even before he was killed in 1994. He was raised by his mother.

1. His father died in war [EDIT] So he isn't mad at his Dad, he's sad because he didn't knew him and never could do the things like other children do with their parents.. 2. That's not a doll, that's him 😂

Yes that's only partially true. His father died in the Rwandan genocide for sure but even before that, he abandoned his wife and kids in Belgium and moved back to Rwanda. Stromae had very little contact with him from that time until his death. So the lyrics show a mix of resentment and sadness for a good reason.

Thaaaaanks heaps!! Love the reaction. Stromae is half Rwandan/ half Belgian and he never really knew his father. He is known for having upbeat songs with deeper/darker lyrics (kinda like Juice) Another epic song of his is Formidable. The video will blow ya mind!!!

Mr. Sousse below gave an excellent overview of the background for this song. And as someone said, the doll was actually Stromae. This song was covered by American group Pentatonix with assistance from Lindsay Sterling. They’re normally a cappella but in this song they utilize Lindsey’s violin and Pentatonix member Kevin plays cello while beatboxing at the same time. The Pentatonix version isn’t quite as dark as Stromae’s, but still is about a father who is unavailable for his son. They performed it in French. I’d love to hear your review as to how well they did.

Where are you dad? Where are you? In the music clip the small guy represent the singer when he was young and asked many times .... papaoutai... dad where are you? The "doll" is the imaginated father because the singer's father went missing in a war during his early childhood. The singer subsequently fled to Belgium with his mother as a 9 year old. The song is a tribute to his father whom he never really knew. It is a processing song: the singer is in reality the singer.

I’ve been told i don’t relate to this song by many people because i do have a father he always was there but at the same time we were never close we never had a father daughter time we never talked about anything we never went outside just the two of us i definitely feel related to this song my dad has many traumatic problems and so i forgive him but deep down i know i will never have a good relationship with my father

Stromae is a Belgian artist and fashion designer, who has already made 2 wonderful albums "Cheese" and "Racine carré". The Belgian singer offered himself the feat of filling the most prestigious arena on 02/10/2015 evening : Madison Square Garden. A concert that got 20,000 people in agreement. Stromae regaled us with his live performance of "Santé" at Jimmy Fallon. The release of Stromae's new album, "Multitude", is scheduled for March 4, 2022

At the end of the video, I do not think it means he is going to adopt his father's bad behavior. I think he is so desperate to feel with someone, and only thing in his life is that father figure doll. Since doll not become to real, he is going to act like a doll. So he can feel a real connection with that doll!

In my opinion each patent doing those dances with their children is like showing their culture and teaching the children where they're from. Especially because the dog itself has elements off African music in there.

Wonderful reaction! This song was also covered by Pentatonic (PTX). They are a acapella group that has won 3 Grammys. None of them knew French so the took lessons on how to sing this song in French. Their take on this song is a bit different than the original, but memorizing.

The dance between the dad and the son means the contact .the energy and The relationship the connection between the both . If the father exist but actually he's not comunicating with his son. He's so cold and not interested so in the future the son will be the same like his father. 😢
