what album yall think would help me understand them more
@17159R3 ай бұрын
they are a really political band due to the genocide their country has went thru and Serj Tankian the vocalist is actually not a metal singer, he doesn't fuck with metal outside of their thing so he sings in a more Classical music like way and that may come off as "medieval" . they're like the only "goofy" band that does it well imo tho

I feel every album is an important part of them as a band, but at their most raw I'd say their first self titled album.
@IElrekkaI3 ай бұрын
their first self titled album is absolutely amazing, super pissed off and gnarly but with a lot of range stylistically, id say give that a go and if u like it then do toxicity after

No matter the band, if you really want to get a feel for them you need to just go through their discography, in chronological order.

They have a different sound because Serj uses some of the tones we use in traditional Middle Eastern music. I'm from the same ethnicity, and the sounds are mixed with Armenian style singing with rock (the whole band is Armenian btw). They aren't everyone's taste, but I love them. They are very much a protest band. Most of our families were a part of the Armenian genocide at the turn of the 20th century, so we grew up hearing of the trauma and losses of being exiled from our land.

They have a strange sound but in the right environment it is phenomenal.

Serj's bars are better than Uzi's. Lol.

it`s an Amernians band, and the Armenian influence is all over their music and sounded like that is the thing that you dindnt enjoy. In some perspectives that could sound a little racist ngl, but i personally think that you just never experienced nothing outside your own country culture, so when you hear the vibe of an strange culture music, you feel off, and that's just ignorance. I would just recommend that you try to understand the sound and get used to while lisneting to some more of them, but not liking the feeling just because its the feeling of another culture's sound, just sound odd, and the comparison with the hollywood representation of middle east sound make it 10x worst my guy, that's just plain ingorant view of a cultura that you know nothing, AND, dont care to research
