“ You dont know me but I’m your brother- “ one of the greatest lines ever. Mike grew up in Ferguson, MO. He worshipped Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder and Marvin Gaye.

There are two Doobie Brothers. One with Michael and pre-Machael. They are both excellent but totally different. It just shows what great musicians these cats are to be able to switch styles so effortlessly.

Please take the chance to hear the original band (pre-Michael McDonald) whose hits include: Listen to the Music Jesus is Just Alright Long Train Running China Grove Black Water They were a different-sounding band originally, but the original leader--Tom Johnston--was a genius.

Back in the 90s, I watched this Doobie Brothers retrospective on VH1 that finished with all 30 of the people who either were then or used to be members of this group, all playing together on "Listen to the Music" and it was fucking epic.

Piano and organ, they're both in here,.the staple of church, Catholic Morman Tabernacle yess, Methodist, not sure about Lutheran, but probably, Presbyterian, and certainly, CERTAINLY in the Southern Baptist fire and brimstone!!!, sanctified, ..almost everybody in the 1970's, coming off the 60's used organ, its just lent that uplifting sound, even jazz artists, Jimmy Smith, keep going, enjoy!, Godspeed, Peace ✌

Back in the mid late seventies, AM radio station KFRC in San Francisco, which was very popular ( in the days before FM took over ), had a night time spot they would do called ‘Takin’ it to the streets’ with this Doobie Brothers song playing in the background ( specifically the sax solo segment ). A priest from the local catholic archdiocese would host the thirty-second spot in which he spoke about various issues, such as getting help for drug addiction, homelessness, etc., offering words of inspiration, and information on how to get help. Anyway, every time I hear this song, I think of that radio spot.
