This song knocked the Beatles out of the no 1 spot in the top 40 for the first time in 1964. It was no 1 for more than a month. Eric Burdon the lead singer had a great voice. The Animals were very big for the next few years with many great songs

Eric Burdon & The Animals were part of the British Invasion in the 60's along with the Beatles & others. People were always shocked at the deep voice coming out of the lead singer. They had so many great songs such as "The House of the Rising Sun", "We Gotta Get Out of This Place", "It's My Life", "Don't Bring Me Down", "I'm Crying", "See See Rider", "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood, "San Franciscan Nights", "When I Was Young" & "Sky Pilot".

One of many British musical groups who reinvigorated classic Black blues, which had found more appreciative audiences in England and Europe between the 1930s and 1960s. The Brits ELECTRIFIED THE BLUES and shipped all these groups to America where the old became the new again. John Mayall, Led Zeppelin, Paul Revere and the Raiders, all those groups breathed new life into the Blues classics, with a more strident and animated timbre -- and they've won over every generation since the 1960!

The reason that they're walking around is that they're imitating a New Orleans Jazz funeral march, kinda inferring that he's a dead man walking. This may have come from an old folk song, but The Animals infused a heavy Blues vibe into the song.

Yes, the organ was on a wheeled platform and moved to have it and keyboardist Alan Price in the foreground for the closing shot. While the others maintained serious faces, the guitar player behind the lead singer couldn't help grinning at the move being made. The song was made in one take in studio, and this scenario was lip-synced to that recording. And that's really Eric Burdon's voice. Incredible singer.

Recently watched a documentary on this song and learned it had been around in various forms for centuries before this. The Animals put the song into a triplet rhythm which played a huge role in their success with it. I was 11 yrs old when this hit the charts and have loved it and sung it ever since! PS: The organ was the keyboard/synthesizer of that era; it often had more than one "voice."

The video was done in 1965 for a film, but the recording that they are lipsynching to was recorded in one take. It took about 20 minutes and at just over 4 minutes, was one of, if not the longest playing single at the time. It was frequently cut down to 3 minutes for radio play. They were on tour with Chuck Berry at the time with a bunch of other Brit bands and chose this song (which they basically rewrote) because as Eric Burdon said, everyone was trying to out rock Chuck Berry. It's also considered by some to be the first fold rock song and supposedly inspired Bob Dylan (who recording the song in its traditional setting in '63) to go electric The Animlas are one of those extremely influential bands that no one has heard of. They influenced the Doors among others and Bruce Springsteen credits them with getting him started saying that every song he ever wrote was "We've Got to Get Out of this Place. .

A song and group I can get into now. This song actually goes as far back as the 1930s and it's considered a "traditional folk song". The animals recording is considered the first "folk rock hit". The Animals released this in the UK in June of 1963 when The Beatles were already a big hit. The Beatles came to America in February of 1964. This song didn't hit America until August of 1964. Other great songs to listen to are "We Gotta Get Out Of This Place" and "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood", among others.

Once the band broke up, the bass player, Chaz Chandler, wanted to get I to managing musicians and production. He discovered a guy who had made a name for himself touring the south (the “chitlin’ circuit) but wanted to go out on his own. That guy’s name was James Hendrix, and he was playing in a group in New York City under the name “Jammy James and the Blue Flames”. Chaz convinced him to drop the group and go with him to London. He changed his stage name to Jimi Hendrix, found a great jazz drummer named Mitch Mitchell, and hired a guitarist named Noel Redding to play bass, and thus, The Jimi Hendrix Experience was born.

He's playing a Vox Continental organ and also used a Hammond on stage switching between a B3 and A3 at times. Alan Price made the Vox Continental, or "Connie", famous when he used it in the studio for this track and toured with it because it had only been on the market for a year and a half and wasn't well known. It is half the size of the superior sounding Hammonds and Wurlitzers and close enough in sound quality that keyboardists would chose to tour with the more compact Vox.

The keyboard is not a piano. It is a VOX Continental electronic organ. The "walking" of the band members is reminiscent of a funeral procession in New Orleans. The band is "pretending" to play their instruments; and the lead singer, Eric Burdon (who is still around at age 81 and still performs), is lip synching to their original recording, which, by the way, was done in one take at a studio in London when they were on the road performing with Chuck Berry. This video is part of a film about the British invasion. And yes, the organ was hurriedly moved, along with Alan Price, the organist, which also explains the huge smile on guitarist Hilton Valentine's face. He was cracking up over them moving the organ while still filming a close-up of Eric being followed by Valentine and bassist Chas Chandler (who "discovered" Jimi Hendrix and managed him after the Animals broke up after a few years due to poor management and some internal strife). This has become the "definitive" version of the song, although many other artists have performed and recorded it, including Lead Belly, Bob Dylan, Dolly Parton, and many others. The original version of the song (and hence, it's lyrics) was sung from a woman's perspective. It is a very old folk song and is based on a song that goes back many centuries. No one really knows it's absolute conception or who created/wrote it.

Nope lol This is the way misinformation starts. This song has zero to do with the Righteous Brothers. You are confusing it with We Gotta get out of this Place. Which was pitched at The Brothers and they didn't bite. The Animals' producer found it in the studio and passed it on to The Animals who jigged that song around and di their magic. But House of the Rising Sun was basically a folk song Eric heard in a pub and loved and then they put this into an electric vibe.
