I felt so bad for him, because he was so funny and just was worried he wasn’t and wouldn’t get applause or laughter. My nephew was lucky enough to see him in person, and he said it was one of the best shows he had ever been to.

He is without a doubt the most underrated comedian ever. Sometimes you had to think about his jokes. But when you got it he was hilarious.

Mitch suffered from severe stage fright. It's no act. That's also why he often wore sunglasses on stage. They made it more difficult for him to see the audience members.

4:50 technically, a bedroom has to have a closet with access to a bathroom on the same floor. If it has a closet, but no bathroom on the same floor, it’s a “bonus room.”

Mitch died on March 30, 2005, but it wasn't reported until the next day. Since the news moved slower in 2005, most people didnt find out until April Fools Day, and people werent sure if he was really dead.

Hedberg is my all-time favorite comic. There may be others who are technically better, but the combination of Mitch's delivery and his demeanor make him one of a kind! R.I.P. Mitchell Lee Hedberg

This was hilarious. And reading the comments below is blowing my mind. I now understand why he always looked nervous - bc he was! That is THEE definition of bravery, right there!! Being afraid to do something, but doing it anyway. But then his death shows that he really struggled in his life. RIP Mitch. You were a brave man - and a funny one too!!🙏

R.I.P. Mitch. Taken far too soon. He was hilarious! Mitch had horrible stage fright, which is why he almost always had sunglasses on, or kept his eyes closed. He acted in a few things as well, such as Lords of Dogtown, ALMOST FAMOUS, and had a role on That 70's Show. He unfortunately passed from a heroin overdose.

In real estate terms in the US, you can't call a room a bedroom unless it has a closet. Otherwise it's a den or study. Of course a den can have closet too and be listed as a bedroom or a den.

I started doing stand up comedy in 1982 because of Steven Wright and Mitch Hedberg. They were just hilarious to me. I've studied comedy since I was little, but never tried it until Steven Wright came out. I threw in some impressions as well. One of my bits was "The Mitch Hedberg School of Comedy." I would take topic suggestions from the audience and just start talking like Mitch on that subject. Virtually no matter what stupid thing I said, it was hilarious in his voice. I've seen video of him doing standup when he first started and he didn't have the same delivery, though many of his jokes were the same. He just wasn't as funny with a different delivery. In comedy we say there are four levels of comedians. Level one is water cooler comedian: one who can make his/her friends laugh. Level 2 is open mic comedian: one who can make a room full of strangers laugh occasionally. Level 3 is working comedian: one who can make a room full of strangers laugh consistently enough to get paid to do it. Level 4 is legend comedian: one whose material cannot be performed to its maximum effect without doing an impression of that comedian. Mitch Hedberg and Steven Wright fall into that last category. I found out early in my comedy career that you have to play with your wording and delivery and develop your own "voice" for comedy in order to be successful. You also have to define your own idea of success. I never wanted to be famous. My version of success was to get paid to do what I love to do, which is music, comedy and magic. I'm still performing at the age of 69 and very happy.

Wasn't a stage act, Mitch had HORRIBLE stage fright. Though it did make him more memorable. He wore the sunglasses or closed his eyes sometimes when telling a joke cause he was dealing with his stage fright. Mitch was still one the greatest, even with that condition.

There's a great video on YT called "Mitch Hedberg: Battling Stage Fright as a Stand Up Comedian (Video Essay)" from Brickwall Pictures. A loving, compassionate, and insightful look into Mitch's sadly short career. The narrator states "A profile on one of my favorite stand up comedians, Mitch Hedberg, and his struggle with stage fright and drug use." Definitely worth a watch.
