I agree. The title actually sounds kind of offensive. So I totally agree with you. He is much more than just all right. And he’s not just my friend he’s my Lord and Master and Savior. Praise Jesus.

The Band wasn't expressing Jesus was mediocre. "Just Alright"..was common speech slang at the time. Different Decade..different speech. Rock Musicians in their particular Genre..at that time in history..were not charting Gospel Songs. They loved Jesus and found a way to express that.. into their music. Doobie Brother fans understand it was controversial..then. Only Gospel Song they ever wrote. But they reference him in other Tracks..as well.

What?!?! I think you should not rush to judgement, you know, one of Jesus' biggest lessons to us. 🙄 "Just alright" was an expression in the 70s which meant you didn't care what anyone else said or did, whom/whatever was cool with you. Moreover, given their Gospel roots, thinking the Doobie Brothers were disrespectful to Jesus is ridiculous. Judgemental Christianity is the greatest force for atheism today. Keep up the good work.

Also they were afraid to debut this one at a festival because most of the crowd were drunk and partying bikers and the sort.but the front man basically kept his faith and the crowd went absolutely crazy at the end. Then they got baptized at a beach in San Jose as a Parr of the Jesus Revolution of the early 1970's. God's Love is something that changes you once you've experienced It. Hallelujah

You need to go down the Rabbit Hole of this group with their song “What A Fool Believes” that they won a Grammy for in 1981 with Michael McDonald being the writer and lead singer. If you like this, you MUST listen to “China Grove”. When I was in high school, any garage band would not have been taken seriously in the least way unless they could make a reasonable stab at China Grove, Smoke on the Water, and Sweet Home Alabama. They were just baseline, de rigeur, rite-of-passage type songs that were held as prerequisites for … well … everything else.
