Listen to isolated track analysis videos of Michael's songs. I listened to Off The Wall today. His voice was an instrument over which he had amazing control. He was only 20 yrs old when he sang that one. As his voice changed, he adapted and he got better and better. I like to listen to acapella versions of his songs. The music just gets in the way of his multi-layered backups (hope that's the right terminology). Anyways, look for the isolated vocals and enjoy! I also listen to Jackson 5 isolated analysis videos.

I’m 63 , I was a kid like them in the 60’s, and in the late 60’s and early 70’s , to young black people in America (kids and teens ), there was nothing hotter than the Jackson 5. They sold records , always had two to three hits at the top of the charts , had tv specials , sold out concerts , and tv appearances like this one on the Ed Sullivan Show, it meant ratings , because every black kid and teen stopped what they were doing to watch the Jackson 5 on tv. My father , who loved music himself , knew I loved the “ J5” , so he bought home every new J5 album for me when they came out, and I still have them and cherish them. And he also took us to the concerts 3 times ( we missed the first time they came to Memphis ) , it was very exciting . And they were a part of a whole generation of history making music, the Motown label. I grew up with the Jackson family , and we called them black royalty and looked up to them for decades. They had a tv special back them called “ The Jackson 5 : Going Back To Indiana” which featured them in a verity of comical skits with Bill Cosby and other celebrities , and ended with a live concert . It was released as an album also, you should check it out also. The Jackson 5 made times very special for black kids and teen back then. And just remember , the Jackson 5 ( and the Jackson’s , as well as Micheal and Jermaine early solo albums ), had so many hits, but fans who loved them lived every track on every album.

I'm 67 and I remember the bus ride home from school. Someone had a transistor radio and The Jackson 5 would come on ...and the bus became so quiet it was eerie. We knew Michael had wonderful talent!

This is my childhood. I grew up listening to the Jackson 5 or J5 as they were sometimes called, There's so many songs to listen too. "The Love You Save", "ABC", "Dancing Machine", "Get it Together", "I'll Be There" and " Never Can Say Goodbye" to name a few. Please try and watch them live. They're such a visual act as opposed to just listening to their audio, As they got older, you have "Body Language", "Forever Came Today" "Enjoy Yourself", Shake Your Body" and many others to explore!! The song “Stand” was a current hit by Sly and The Family Stone at that time. “Who’s Loving You” was a hit earlier by Smokey Robinson and the Miracles. The other solo singer is Jermaine….he ended up marrying Barry Gordy’s daughter and stayed with Motown when his brother left for Epic records. Jermaine had a semi-successful solo career and his son Jaffar will be playing his uncle Michael in the upcoming biopic coming out later this year.

I was born 3 months before Michael. Being I was raised on a full working farm in the sticks when the Jackson 5 would come on TV I would so try and get his dance moves down. No rewind back in the day. Ages during this performance (December 1969) from left to right: Tito, 16 Marlon, 12 Jackie, 18 Michael, 11 Jermaine, 15 Jermaine has had a good solo career of his own. Out of the 10 Jackson siblings, 7 are alive today. Tito died in 2024, aged 70. Michael died in 2009, aged 50. Brandon, who was Marlon's twin brother, died within 24 hours after their birth in 1957, due to being very premature. Marlon and Michael were very close and the age gap between them was less than 1,5 years. ❤

From oldest to youngest within the Jackson siblings - Rebbie Jackson, Jackie Jackson, Tito Jackson, Jermaine Jackson, LaToya Jackson, Marlon Jackson (whose twin Brandon Jackson died in child birth), Michael Jackson, Randy Jackson and the youngest Janet Jackson. Also I want to clarify the Jackson 5 were huge! They was the first group to have their first four songs all reach No. 1, had their own animated series, board games, cereal, this, that, and the other. They took over The Beatles on the charts with their first song and their second single ABC sold 2 million copies in two and a half weeks. They had three number one albums in 1970 alone. They became a bit stagnant in 1972/1973 but that’s why Michael and the brothers decided to leave Motown Records and became The Jacksons in 1975, they had to change their name cause Motown Records owned the name Jackson 5 so they were now know as The Jacksons and move to CBS Records/Epic Records while Jermaine Jackson stayed behind cause he married Berry Gordy’s daughter, so Randy Jackson was added to the group even tho he was performing alongside the Jackson 5 since 1971. Michael’s solo career has eclipsed just how huge the Jackson 5/The Jacksons was. After all they didn’t call it “Jacksonmania” for nothing. They truly are the Greatest Boy Band Of All Time! As a group they have sold over 150 million records worldwide before Michael even went solo so they were an anomaly themselves.👑💖🌟

First .. so glad u picked a live .. 2nd .. u listened to a few of his songs, that showed his vocal capacities .. & 3rd .. haven't heard these is a minute, gave me goose bumps. Ok so a few come to mind .. "ABC" .. or "I'll Be There" .. thats 2 right now but there's PLENTY. Let me say this too .. The Osmond Brothers were also a 5 brother band with Donny Osmond the youngest & mostly the lead singer. MJ, Donny & all the bros basically grew up on tv and were all heart-throbs of pre teen & teen girls. Posters went flying up on walls. We loved them ALL. Ed Sullivan had many up coming stars on his show which started many careers. Andy Williams show did the same. Would love to see u react to The Osmond Brothers too, soon. Keep it live tho if u can, these brother groups were performing groups. U just gotta see them. The 1st Osmond song I fell in love with was "Puppy Love" .. also the very 1st 45 record I saved up my allowance to buy. These 2 bro groups were icons & became big names fast. I feel like Michael Jackson had three lifetimes in music. The Jackson 5 (my mom’s generation) The Jackson’s/Off The Wall, and Thriller/Bad (my generation). Little Michael was a FORCE! Him singing ‘Whose Loving You’ by Smokey Robinson and the Miracles even took Smokey (Smokey admitted when he first heard it) The greatest entertainer to live! MJ. Jermaine was the lead singer until their mom discovered that Michael could sing really well. Jermaine had his success in the business as well. Michael loved his brothers.

Young Michael was flawless! And the group as a whole was magical. Tito plays the red Gibson ES-345. If you catch it in the light correctly, you'll notice no woodgrain as it is a Metallic Sparkling Burgundy. We recently lost Tito late in 2024. He will be sorely missed!

I grew up listening to The Jackson 5. I was 7 when this episode of the Ed Sullivan Show aired AND when "I Want You Back" was released. The J5 were part of my childhood. They were exceptionally talented. MJ was only 11 years old during this performance, and Jermaine with that very mature-sounding voice was only been 15! I’m 67 and remember when they were on The Ed Sullivan show. Seeing this video brought back so many good memories! We even saw them when they came to perform in Detroit. In fact, they had announced on the radio when they were going to land at Metropolitan Airport in Detroit and my girlfriend’s big sister took us there to see them! All we could see were big Afros running past the crowd of fans. Wow, good times! Did you know they later had a cartoon show.

From left to right: Tito (who just passed away last September), Marlon, Jackie ( the oldest), Michael and Jermaine Jackson. After Michael died the other brothers started performing again, by popular demand. Now, after Tito passed away, I don't know what they'll do. Tito's son did join them lately, so maybe he will continue to perform with his uncles. It's easy to see that Michael was mega talented, although he paid a price. At a certain point he was basically the bread winner and that is a lot of pressure on the shoulder sof a child. He wanted to go solo as early as 1978, but his dad and brothers were of course not happy with that. Even at Michael's height, around Thriller and Billie Jean, he didn't go on solo tours. It was only after the Victory Tour that Michael was brave enough to cut himself away from his brothers. The BAD tour was his first ever solo tour, in 1987. He planned on it being his only and last one, but they convinced him to continue. He shouldn't have maybe, but he did the Dangerous tour for charity. After that he somehow kept touring even though he hated it. I guess certain obligations made him do it. Anyway, seeing 11 year old Michael sing and dance is always mind blowing...! LJ

The data of Wikipedia is wrong : The Jackson 5 became The Jacksons in 1976... Their last record is not in 1985 (actually nothing happened among The Jacksons in 1985... The closer album is "Victory" in 1984 and the very last album recorded by The Jacksons is from 1989 and it it entitled "2300 Jackson Street" (it was, originally, a present for the birthday of their mother Katherine Jackson, but they finally decided to release it in the public)

Fun fact: On Bob Marleys wedding day, he had a performance later that day where he opened for a then unknown group from America called the Jackson 5! So, Bob Marley met Michael Jackson when he was like 7 or 8. The Jacksons visited Bob in the mid 70s when they had become huge stars, there are pictures of that visit on the internet. This info is in Rita Marleys book.

The other brother on bass that you liked so much is Jermaine. He had his own successful solo career. You should hear his biggest R&B hit, "Let's Get Serious". It has a wicked bass groove. It was the number one R&B song for Billboard Magazine for the year of 1980. It had a lot of great competition.
