This is southern rock at it's finest. Love their music from the 70's. Some of their biggest hits were "Can't You See", "Ramblin'", "Fire On The Mountain", "Heard It In A Love Song", "24 Hours At A Time" etc.. Southern rock fiddler Charlie Daniels did quite a few collaborations with them.

This group represents the very best of Southern Rock. My late husband’s band used to open for them in the early 70s.

Great reaction... As an American this song tells a vivid part of the history here in a poignant way. People lived desparately back then. Life was extremely tough in the Carolinas and most people lived in the wilderness providing for themselves. It was an extremely brutal life of living. Then came the 1848 California Gold rush where people were told that California had Gold everywhere in the creeks and soil. So the character in this song has left with his wife to go strike it rich to get them out of the poverty and tough life that you can only experience living in the rural wilderness. In the song he experiences being close to riches, fools gold, the Gold Rush towns had make shift bars and dancing girls. Where he talks about men shot down just for the sake of hearing the sound of their gun-- you can imagine a town full of nothing but thousands of rough men. And when rough men get drunk how easily the streets would be lined with blood as the song lyrics say. Also he talks about a Claim which is the right to mine a particular part of land and it gives you the only rights to that land to look for gold. If you hit a vein of gold people would kill you for your claim so they could take over the gold mining. And there were no decent records kept so if someone shot and killed you and took your Claim it was hard to dispute that they weren't the owner. The miner and husband in the story was killed in this song hence "Now my widow, she weeps by my grave Tears flow free for her man she couldn't save Shot down in cold blood by a gun that carried fame All for a useless and no good worthless claim" This song really ecapsulates the mood of that time. The hope of gold riches, the trying times, the gold mining towns that popped up, the bars and dance halls, the drinking, the killing. It is also tells a moral story of not chasing rainbows and riches.

You "Outkicked your Coverage" with Mrs. BP2 (In American football terms that means you married up, lol) This was a great group, "Can't You See" this song and "Heard it in a Love Song" the biggest three hits. Cant You see live at the Grand le Opry (73 or 74) has the flute also.

MTB has done one of my biographical songs, "Can't You See", also with a flute, which I highly recommend. They made flute playing cool, like Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull. Their "Heard It in a Love Song" is also outstanding. The way they got their name from an actual person is reminiscent of Lynyrd Skynryd named themselves after a school gym teacher named Leonard Skinner. Check out more Southern Rock, you will not be disappointed.

Hi Mrs. BP2 (how do you put up with him?) LOL!! I still don't care much for the 'wailing' steel guitar. But there are some songs it seems to go with. You don't want a mob of flutists showing up in front of your house with torches & pitchforks to be sure. I can relate. One time with a mail order plastic surgeon license I got in Mexico . . . Well, you don't want to hear about that. You should do more reactions with the Mrs. Memory loss is Hell isn't it BP2? LOL!!

Hello again Mrs. BP2! Nice to you chiming in a bit more! They are a really good band, nice choice Chewy's Momma! They have a unique blend of the genres you talked about BP2. They would also fall into Southern Rock since those genres can be part of that style of rock as well. Can't You See and Heard It In A Love Song are good songs of theirs too. BP2, were you thinking of Lynyrd Skynyrd as the other Southern Rock band you were thinking of? Hope to you again soon, Mrs. BP2!!😊

The 70s was the era for great Southern rock. At least the beginnings of it. Marshall Tucker band &Lynyrd Skynyrd are in my opinion the best of the genre. Because this was a live version I think the lyrics were a little harder to understand. So in case you didn't catch them, the song is about a man taking his family from Carolina and going out west during the California Gold Rush to try to strike it rich. As you could tell by the last verse it didn't work out well for him. I believe the lyrics captured really well what the experience must have been like for so many who followed a dream and made that journey to try to find gold in them Hills! Instead what most of them found was brutal conditions, working in a dark mind gigging with your hands most of the day, fighting for your little plot that you purchase to keep someone from stealing it, and just a crazy lawlessness of the wild West at that time.

Another special guest star appearance from BP2’s ‘better half’ 🤤. 👏👏 Don’t think I ever purchased a Marshall Tucker record but I remember liking them when they came on the radio. Probably, “Heard it in a Love Song” would have been my favorite of theirs. Definitely carved out their niche in the 70’s Classic Southern rock ilk along with; Skynyrd, CDB, Oulaws, Molly Hatchet, Blackfoot, etc.. Skynyrd or maybe ZZ Top being the top of the heap of the genre. Recommendations: LS “Simple Man”; ZZ “Beer Drinkers & Hell Raisers” (from the Fandango album) 👏 Congrats to the boys in blue (MC)! 3 matches left and they’ve got the title sown up already 👏

'You can say as much as you want, you usually do'. 🤣🤣🤣😅 I don't have much to say, as I like to keep things positive. Sorry, Chuey's Mama & co! But Mrs BP2 is always a welcome sight! I honestly don't know what to make of the flute solo. It was probably the coolest bit for me, but at the same time, a little odd. 🤔🤔

MTB was one of the BEST Southern Rock bands of the day. A product of South Carolina, "Carolina Dreams" is a standout album. You'll hear flute, sax, piano, guitar, steel guitar, keyboards in their unique blended style of Southern Rock. MTB forever. (Note: Mrs. BP2 has better musical taste than BP1. : )

Hey Mrs. BP2. No, it wasn't Marshall Tucker your dad listened to, it was SLAYER 😂😂Ok, for real, I played flute in my younger days so I always enjoy a good solo when I hear one.🐾🐾 🐾🐾 If you liked this one, sometime try Marshall Tucker "Can't You See" kzbin.info/www/bejne/mp3GZ6t5hd1pZrc And as always...........SLAYERRRRRRRRRRR kzbin.info/www/bejne/enamoWuCgNqlgdU And to tease the Slayer video, they were actually allowed to shoot it at the pyramids at Giza. AND......Tom Araya was "kidnapped" while there! He was offered a camel ride and the dude that took him rode him out to the middle of nowhere, literally "bum fuck Egypt" and said he had to pay to be took back.
