Fun fact. Well into adulthood, I heard the chorus as, "Purtty little looovee song!" As I got older, I knew that couldn't be right. I also became aware of a song by TMTB called, "Heard It In a Love Song". Still did not put two and two together. It wasn't until I was watching a 70s classic rock cover band that I finally heard the chorus properly. The people I was with, including my wife, stared at me, dumbfounded, as I excitedly noted that THIS was Heard It In a Love Song! That's what they say in the chorus!! To them I was saying something patently obvious, "Hey!! We're watching a 70's classic rock cover band!!!" Yeah, no sh##. That wasn't the first time that had happened....

Love this so much. I taught it as a poem to my high school English class, just printing out the lyrics, and letting the students debate whether the narrator is sympathetic or not. [A man knows he has to move on but doesn't want to crush his woman's heart. He'd stay another year if he saw her cry so he has to sneak out. It hurts your heart.] Then I blew their minds by playing the song. [But this version is the short radio version and doesn't tell the whole story; otherwise, Amber would have been all over it with a tear in HER eye.]

@@billmcmahon5454 Yup. And they did a weird edit for the single, which has only three verses (the album has four). For the third verse (single version), they pieced together the first part of the album’s third verse with the last part of the album’s fourth verse. The flute intro is shorter on this one, too. Add it all up and they chopped a full 1-1/2 minutes off the album version.

Definitely the soundtrack of my youth, 15 years old, hanging out around a bonfire and listening to Marshall Tucker Band. My motto has always been I wasn't country when country was cool, but I do love me some Willie, Marshall Tucker and CDB (Charlie Daniels Band). This song does have a country feel to it, but I still love it! Makes me feel old though, heck, I AM old! Glad you guys got to have a fun day at the water park! I know it's awful hot here in Texas, but my water park days are over. Absolutely love that image of the sun setting over wheat fields. I've been around that a lot here in Kansas. But I'm from Texas so I also get the rest of the vibe. Plus it's quite humorous, it's very tongue and cheek and he's just saying, hey I can say this shit and say all that, because that's what they say in all the love songs right? But you can tell that from the very first verse, he actually really loves this person.

Very nice reaction. So much fun revisiting these classic along with you and watch and listen to you discovering them for your first time. Brings me back to my first time. And yeah, that’s a flute. Song also features one of the great trademarks of Southern Rock: two guitars playing in harmony. And With MTB, you get some nice flute mixed with guitar. Thank you. Made me smile. And I heard it in a love song… Can’t be wrong!

Family First!!! Good parents. Good reactors, too!!! Getting better and better every day. One of my favorite songs!! Hmmm, it's the short version. There is a fourth verse and a piano solo after the flute solo. We cover the song with our 3-piece band, and always get a round of applause! I sing lead, play bass guitar during the verses and choruses, and switch to key bass plus flute or piano for the intro, solos and the outro! And yes, keeping that bouncing bass line is a challenge both on bass and keys; and simultaneously singing OR playing the instruments is quite a challenge!!! Thank goodness I don't have to do all three at once!!!

Glad to hear you were away yesterday for happy reasons, not picking up after a tornado. Great pick with MTB! Good night all around with 3 songs from the 70s; my late teen years!❤❤

Lordy. This song brings back memories. I fell totally in love with a man described in this song. Broke my heart. Looking back, I sigh and and feel no animosity. Life is a journey. It's all good. 😊

Their most country song is “Desert Skies”, not one of their biggest, but one of my favorites that always reminds me of my late sister, who loved it,calling it kerplunkity plunk music.

My favorite radio station when I was a teen in the 1960's and 70's was KOMA-1520 AM radio at 50,000 Watts from Oklahoma City, they played all the popular songs and many times they were first with the newest hits. we could tune in to that station in the evenings after sunset from Wyoming, South Dakota, Iowa, Minnesota.

I loved this song when it came out and still do. Country/rock with great guitar playing, piano, vocals, and most definitely the flute is amazing.
