My older sister was a kid/early teen when the Monkees were popular and she was absolutely obsessed with them. They had a TV show in addition to putting out records. So all their songs, especially this one, always makes me think of my big sister. The Canadian singer Anne Murray did a great cover of this song that is worth listening to also.

The Monkees are an American rock and pop band originally active between 1966 and 1971, with reunion albums and tours in the decades that followed. Their original line-up consisted of the American actor/musicians Micky Dolenz, Michael Nesmith and Peter Tork with English actor/singer Davy Jones.

Happy is right. The song is so darn catchy and pretty you can just listen to it over and over. By the way, I've tried very hard to hold back, but, after watching several of your reactions in a row, I can't help it: You're adorable. I love watching you. You just smile at all kinds of music and appreciate the myriad things you may not have heard before. Very enjoyable. installed a satellite dish for the late John Stewart. John Stewart wrote "Daydream Believer" He was a member of The Kingston Trio (Hang Down Your Head Tom Dooley.) As I walked upstairs with Mr Stewart during the install, I passed numerous Gold records hanging on the walls. There, framed in the original frame, was the Gold Record for "Daydream Believer". I commented to Mr. Stewart about that song, and my growing up with The Monkees. He chuckled to himself, pointed at the record, and said "that song bought me a few houses." One of my cherished memories to this day. RIP John Stewart. Check out his song with Stevie Nicks. Gold.

The success of the Beatles 1964 film "A Hard Days Night" was the final impetus going forward with The Monkees project. On Sept 8 1965, the Daily Variety and Hollywood Reporter magazines put out an advert. Asking for Folk & Rock musicians (between 17 & 21) to audition for a new zany TV show. The show first aired on Sept 12, 1966. Tne Monkees sold more records world wide in 1967 than the Beatles. Sorry about your Beatle video getting blocked Mo. I was really looking forward to it. Take care hun, RNB

The Myth that the Monkeys ever outsold the Beatles was started by Mike Nesmith and he said so in a interview you can find on KZbin . The reality is 60% of records sold worldwide in 1966 were Beatles records.

The Monkees have a LOT of songs you'll love, and their own quirky comedy/musical TV show. It's really like four bands in one, with a different sound depending on who sings lead -- Davy Jones on this one. All four bandmembers sing lead in different songs. Mike Nesmith, the tall one with glasses, wrote his own songs and wrote hits for others performers too, including "Different Drum", Linda Ronstadt's first hit. Mickey Dolenz is the one with the curly hair, and Peter Tork is the one with blond hair. Some of the Monkees songs were written by Neil Diamond before he started singing his own songs.
