Man, I remember when this song first came out. It was absolutely everywhere and made all of us laugh because every single person in the 90s knew at least one white kid (boy or girl. Let’s not forget the girls who were like this too!) who was just like this. They came from the suburbs, usually from a family who was modestly well off or incredibly wealthy, who attended all white schools that had a few minorities sprinkled in, and yet behaved as if they came from the ‘hood. The funniest thing about this song that even if it came out in the 90s, you can still find this person in the wild even those who made it big. A couple comes to mind: Vanilla Ice and Iggy Azalea. Both came from the suburbs and rapped as if they came from poorer backgrounds. Let’s not forget Drake who came out with a song that included this lyric: “We came up from the bottom now we here” when he grew up in a very privileged family.

So Dexter Holland the lead singer is in the running for most interesting man in the world. Lead singer song writer of a very successful rock band, has a PHD in Molecular Biology (2013 way after his bands peak in the late 90's) wrote his thesis on something to do with the HIV virus which may be a breakthrough in treating it, created his own hot sauce brand (Gringo Bandito) which is number 1 on Amazon and sold at 7000 grocery stores... dudes lived his life to the fullest.

The best part of this song is it’s obviously making fun of the type of person he’s singing about…but they don’t quite get it 😂 Love the offspring so much! You should check out The Tiger Lilies. Very different and awesome

First, the opening is actually from Def Leppard's song, "Rock Of Ages," where their producer Mutt Lang, was tried of them starting the song with a four count, and came up with some nonsense words for them to say. When they reference Ricki Lake in the song, she had an Oprah Style show on, one of those daytime talk shows where people confront each because of various "issues." And the video is supposed to be cringy. Because the most important thing, is "To thine own self be true."

They roasted that poser type who seemed to be everywhere in the 90s. "But in his own mind he's the dopest trip!" Adding my vote for The Kids Aren't Alright. Fantastic song. Also, Come Out and Play. Both are still relevant social commentaries.

The Undert Leiben louten loben or whatever was a reference to Def Leppards song "Rock of Ages" it sounds a little German but it was just made up. The Producer Mutt Lange just had a habit of doing count-ins to songs to try and make the band laugh, Def Leppard decided to record his count in for the song.

The phrase in the beginning of the song is "Gunter glieben glauten globen", a German-like nonsense phrase. It's a soundbite of the intro to "Rock of Ages" by Def Leppard. It was introduced by producer Mutt Lange, who is of German descent. According to the official Def Leppard FAQ: "These four words that you hear at the start of "Rock of Ages", mean nothing, though the band sometimes jokingly claims it means "running through the forest silently". It's actually just German-sounding gibberish, said by producer Mutt Lange during one of the later takes of the song. Lange was a perfectionist and would often do dozens & dozens of takes, and after repeatedly beginning so many with the standard count, "One, two, three, four" he simply started saying nonsense words instead, the band liking this one so much that they included it on the album."

Him driving the Impala and the girls flocking to him are the manifestation of his fantasy/denial that Dexter was singing about. The reactions from the males are just blatantly ignored because they don’t fit in with the cool persona he’s fabricated for himself.

4:08 This song was well before Eminen when every white rapper or R&B artist sucked. I grew up with this song as a teen, and I love it every time I hear it. In my opinion it's making fun of people who cannot be authentic and want to be everyone else around them. It's supremely sarcastic, and I always sing along sarcastically.

As everybody said: the song is meant to be funny/a parody. Has someone mentioned that the vocalist is a pretty intelligent guy with a Ph.D. in molecular biology? Plus, just another random fact you might find interesting: Tom MacDonald was a fan of this band as a teenager. He even mentions them in one of his album songs: "Bumping 2Pac and Offspring I had 'em both in my heart" (from the song "Bully"). Greetings from Germany

0:45 that was the opening words to a song by Def Leppard called Rock Of Ages. The saying doesn't mean anything and was created by producer Mutt Lange who got tired of counting the band in with "1, 2, 3, 4..."

Gunter glieben glauten globen was used in the song "Rock of Ages" by Def Leppard, one of the band members set it straight as to what it was all about in more recent years. the singer was tired of always saying 1,2,3,4 to get everyone on the right start so just through in 4 jibberish words, however he happened to speak Dutch soooo... who knows. but there is the origin of the 4 words.
