Greeting from Australia, Genie 🐨🦘🦜😃 'The Seekers' were an Australian group. Their music style was frequently balanced between folk and pop. They were essentially the first Australian group to find much success, not only here in Oz, but also overseas - although, I think the UK had their biggest overseas fanbase (such that, 'The New Seekers' started in the UK after the original 'Seekers' broke up [the first time] in 1969). The regrouped from 1975 to 1988, then again from 1992, and randomly to the present through occasional concerts. 'The Seekers' was very much a group that people around my age group (their 50s, through to early 60s) would remember from when we were kids, and our parents would play their copies of albums by 'The Seekers'. I always think of Sunday mornings with their music, as that was often the first album that my sister and I would wake up hearing to before (or during) breakfast. So, there's a lot of lovely happy memories for me with most of their music 😍🤩 The original line-up of the group, as seen in the clip that you played, were: Judith Durham, Athol Guy, Keith Potger and Bruce Woodley. I think that Judith has retired, but the three mentioned men have always been a part of the group throughout, with various others who have sung in place of Judith. Even though Wikipedia's not always the best for always finding completely accurate detail/history (seeing anyone can write anything in it), this link is a good starting point for further information: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Seekers Finally, there is one song of theirs that became quite a hit in the 1960s, and was the title of a movie that it appeared in: 'Georgy Girl': kzbin.info/www/bejne/raSsk5mPes6tgs0 the clip is taken from their record-breaking concert in Melbourne, 1967). (The movie, starring Alan Bates, James Mason, Charlotte Rampling and Lynn Redgrave, came out in 1966, and was set in 'Swinging London'). Thanks for that review, and I hope you like 'Georgy Girl'. Cheers 😊👍

I instantly fell in love with this song the first song I heard it on a jukebox in the 2000s in Portland, Oregon. The tavern was lost to gentrification but what sounds it had! Disco, folk, Beatles, metal, everything.

I was blown away when I found this song on a jukebox in a dive bar in Portland, Oregon in the 2000s. The tavern has been lost to gentrification but that music player was the best. It had disco, folk, psychedelic, Beatles, metal, everything.

Judith Durham has just passed us by. I cried when I heard of her death. They were the first 'band" that I ever saw, at a festival in Brisbane, Australia. I was 10 years old and and have loved them all my life.

The greatest love song of all time!!! The group in 2004 were still together and performed this song even BETTER 50 years later. The lead singer Judith Durham is among my top 10 pop singers of all time. And they once performed this song in front of the largest outdoor crowd: 200,000 People!!! Over the years I’ve listened to this incredible song hundreds of times and never tire.

Judith Durham was Australia's first Pop Princess, old enough to be Kylie's Granny and still belting them out. In their time, the outsold both the Beatles and the Rolling Stones (Their final album knocked the Beatles, "White, " off the No 1 spot in the UK album charts, and prevented the Rolling Stones, "Beggar's Banquet, " from reaching it).

I get even more of a feeing of excitement these days when listening to the Seekers than I did when I was a little girl. It's so wonderful to have someone so young to have discovered them much more recently. I really wish we could make them so generally appreciated as they were in the 60s. It might surprise some to know the Judith is only 3 weeks older than Jagger, younger than Charlie Watts and only 3 years older than Debbie Harry (almost to the day).

Well Anthony covered that quite extensively. I have loved the voice of Judith Durham for ages. It's so pure and lovely. Per Wikipedia she had a stroke in 2013 which weakened her ability to read and write. But it didn't affect her voice. But she is officially retired. She was with the group for a total of 33 years --but not sequentially. I am fond of many of their songs. "A World Of Our Own" is another favorite of mine. Whenever I hear "Morningtown Ride" it affects me. It makes me feel nostalgic.

This was still a phase American pop music was going thru in the 60’s It’s called folk music, Lots of harmony and usually no electric instruments. It’s a lot in common with their peers, Peter Paul & Mary; Kingston trio, etc
