I think I remember this song, it's really catchy and bouncy. Judith Durham has such a distinctive voice too.

Hi Sue. Written by... Trad ! He wrote lots ! First recorded in the twenties and presumably came from the gospel tradition in the Southern states of the US. Very much old time bluegrass feel to the song done this way and as with many Trad songs from the oral tradition, the lyrics will vary. There are other songs about this allegorical 'train' in bluegrass/old time (american) and C/W as well, no doubt, as in gospel. Rosetta Tharpe: what a character ! Sold tickets to her wedding and sold out a sprts stadium ! Granad TV (UK) filmed her playing a gig on a disused railway platform in Manchester, in the rain, blasting away on her white SG guitar. Brilliant. (Granada also filmed Johnny Cash in St Quentin.) 60s folk revival...some good bad and ugly there 😀

@@playitagainsueApparently there were 20,000 'strangers' at her wedding! Another of those 'Train' songs. 'People Get Ready' (Curtis Mayfield). I have the Eva Cassidy version(s) but lots have done that too. Same song with different tune and lyrics...🙂.

Hi Sue, thanks for doing more Seekers. I have heard this song, but not for a long time. They recorded so many great songs, so I recently purchased a fifty track greatest hits double CD & it didn't have this track on it! Going o in the same folk/pop vibe, did Fairground Attraction ever make a splash in Canada? After 35 years, the original four members of the band have just reformed. I've snapped up tickets for their tour at the end of the year. If you have not heard of them, give their biggest song Perfect a listen.

For the longest time i thought this was a Woody Guthrie because it was the title of his Biopic Movie was made 1976 by Hal Ashby the director of my favorite movie Harold and Maude David Carradine of Kung Fu fame played Woody and did all his own singing and playing Its a really great film . This song is also featured in a really cool concert movie called Big Easy Express Mumford and Sons , Edward Sharpe and Magnetic Zeros and Old Crow Medicine Show board a train from chicago to New Orleans and stop and play concerts along the way . Beautiful Music , Beautiful Country The clip was classic and looked like 2 more great movies Coen Brothers : Inside Llewyln Davis And the Hilarious : Mighty Wind

..I'm a huge fan of The Seekers, Sue, and I'll happily watch anything that you react to from them .. That said, this song isn't really one of their many songs that I love .. It's OK, but there's a good 20 to 30 songs I'd easily rate above it .. But at least this gives a rare chance for people to see and hear all 4 members do a solo vocal .. Looking forward to more Seekers vids !

@@playitagainsue The title is "Morningtown Ride". The video version shows Judith and "The Boys" strolling thru a Melbourne Australia historic home and property, and appear dressed in 1890's attire. Judith is in a long white dress and I get the impression of an adored little sister out with her big brothers. it is a very sweet video, and the song is beautiful and perfect in that uniquely Seekers fashion.

I hate how I discover bands just when they're either dead or on the way. The Seekers were that band , i think the last time they toured was 2014? I didn't really discover them until 2017. I love how the aerial shots on this video caught the diners logging onto Facebook though...what was that all about !? 😂 I think Judith's range really is shown on 'When The Stars Begin To Fall', I hate how all we have now is 'Middle aged put-the-phone-down Madonna' or Taylor Swift. Absolute rubbish.

You are so right, Marco. There is so much bad music out now. It is an absolute shame. I only just got into the Seekers a few months ago so you are ahead of me. I think I only knew one song by them. @@playitagainsue I'm just glad I grew up with elders who were so tuned in. My granny was a bent over weak looking wee woman who was into the Stones, early Queen and The Who and I remember my little brother testing how bent over she was...she pinned him to the wall with one hand! For a joke by the way, incase you start wondering about my upbringing 😂 but yeah I had my granny for those bands, my mother for glam bands, my uncle for everything. But then came my choices from my own generation they all hated like 'The Streets', they were just beyond what they knew about 🤪😂
