The first time I watched this, I cried. My first husband was Steve, I was 16, he was violent, I was pregnant. It just hit way too close to home. That’s been many, many years ago, and there is still trauma. I knew when she was at the hospital one was her child. I was stunned to find both were her children. But it makes sense. Stevie went to jail for killing her and she died. Her parents weren’t fit for parenting babies. So, they went into the foster system and were split up. She became a prostitute, he got his dad’s violent streak. Great reaction.
@vladimirklimenko22963 күн бұрын
Steve may not have been the father. Her father could have been the father. Molestation is suggested and the whole getting a council flat, etc at 16 would be prioritized for the abused and/or pregnant and that's why Steve also calls her a sl*t because she could have been pregnant by the time they started their relationship and was close to giving birth by the time Steve attacked her. Steve would still go to jail etc.

Ren has the genius ability to turn some simple lyrics into so much more. The first introduction into Violet's life, 'Violet was a silent girl, grew up with violent starts...', to 'I'm sure her Mother knew.', are 4 simple lines, but impart so much about Violet to his audience. It's enough to set a picture in his audiences mind, but also not so much that it allows his audience to fill in parts with their own imagination. A sign of a gifted story teller.

In the line of Violets Tale when Ren says ‘ London city far from pretty two zero zero five’ he is referring to the year 2005. Given that he wrote this song in 2019 and the fact that Jenny and James a.k.a. screech are both 14 years old means that they were born in 2005. If you are already aware of this then please ignore this comment but a lot of people don’t understand the reference from what I’ve seen.

For the countless number of times I've watched reactions to this trilogy, this is the best I've seen! Rosalie, your stoicism throughout the beginning and throughout the videos was amazing. I was expecting you to say, "Oh, you're wondering if you're going to feel something"? Great job. I really appreciated you keeping her immersed in the videos by not stopping it every few minutes to talk about it. But, I also appreciated watching you watching her waiting to see her reaction. It was awesome! Again, great job!

When violets tale starts he stands up and pauses, shakes his head like he doesn’t want to bear witness but needs to. Also when he says the devil comes to dance, he hisses it like at Hi Ren when the devil takes over.

Good catch! I’ll give you one of mine. In the tale of screech he begins at the end with Jenny’s last breath and he sighs “our” like it is indeed her last breath. He does the same for Screetch…

Ren shines the light on the dark sides of society.. the side we try to ignore.. but Ren does it so well..and so creatively that you can't look away.. such an important artist. I think he is the modern Bob Dylan.. he can't be pigeonholed into one into one genre.. and he writes songs that stimulates necessary conversations. I pray for his health as i feel this next generation needs a voice like this young man.

I love the way Ren 'book ends' each tale with a certain lyrical phrase. In Jenny's tale, it's the 'it was a quiet dark night in an empty street...' passage. Played at the start and the end, but with different emphasis on the meaning of the words 'sleep' and 'escape(d)'. Genius. In Screech's tale, it's the 'Our story starts right at the end...' line. Towards the end of Screech's tale it is replayed, but twisted around to 'Our story ends right at the start'. Again, genius. It's used less in Violet's tale, but the 'London City, far from pretty, 2005...' passage certainly helps tie the start of Violet's tale to it's tragic end. I also like the lines when Screech is confronting Jenny where Screech says '...you don't know me, the last thing you see will be a boy called Screech...' The irony being that in some way she did know Screech, and indeed the first thing she probably saw as a new born, was indeed Screech, and now it's the last thing she sees. There are so many orher examples of this sort of thing with Ren's works, but these stand out for me with this trilogy.

When i see the emotional expression on your faces(reaction faces:)),.... i just think, we live so far apart geologically, but i'm also making the same facial expression whilest listening with you both, and feeling mostly, the same emotions. And that makes youtube and the reactionist profession/creationists profession very special and unique. It helps people handle emotions and share feelings about their favorite songs with people/reactionists across the world because you have no one in your real personal friends or family circle who care about these songs. But just now i could share the emotion and agree with people from the other side of the globe that this is a masterpiece, whilest sharing a tear or 2:) ❤🎉

Thanks for this Rosalie! I have watched and listened to this several times, but just now saw some of the classical elements of his structure: He has an overture for each ‘tale,” and musical interludes. Twins separated at birth are a device used since ancient Roman theatre. I don’t know how intentional he is but this is similar to the masques and theatrical performances in Shakespeare’s time. This is truly “bardcore!”

From the end of the guitar intro in Violets Tale, leaving the ‘ hospital’ room, down 2 short corridors and a short flight of stairs, you are left in absolutely no doubt about Violet’s history, life and choices. It is his amazing economy of words that blow me away. What is it 35-40 secs only?

To hammer home the point about Ren being a true artist and writer, I believe he performed the Tale of Jenny & Screech as a live walk-through event in (I think) Brighton UK. He had several vignettes set up with crime scene tape and actors playing the police and the main characters. On his socials he also posted about other parts of the story and aspects of the characters that aren't included in the songs. For instance, when Screech is searching for refuge with his friend, his friend is allegedly wit Screech's girlfriend and this is why he's not answering the phone. It seems he created the first two parts of the story two years before completing it with Violet's Tale. As a writer, Ms. Nunnery will know how a story and the characters have a tendency to live with you, how they become almost fully-formed beings with so many aspects of their lives and personalities that you might never put to paper. As a writer myself, it seems to me Ren wrote a novel in his mind and then distilled it down to three songs. This is remarkable to me.

In the US unknown children or people are referred to as Jane and John Doe. I believe, in the UK, Jane and John Doe are referred to as Jenny and James. Ren also released Instagram shorts of when screech “stole“ his phone. Those are compiled in a KZbin video called screeches IG tales I believe. In them we meet screech Patrick the rest of screeches crew and girl. Throughout those stories, we see screeches girl and Patrick , being fairly close while trying to fly under screeches radar. That, I believe, is where the story of where Patrick is in screeches tail and who he is hanging out with.
