Serj Tankian's rendition of "Like a Stone" is amazing. The backing band is prophets of rage which has the remaining members of Audioslave, who were also in Rage Against the Machine. The band is also composed of two members of Public Enemy and B-Real from Cypress hill.

@John Fischer ....ready? Chris Cornell founded Soundgarden, Audioslave, and Temple of the Dog. Temple of the Dog had most of the members of Pearl Jam and was a tribute band for one of Cornell's friends who died It only had one album by design. Chris Cornell introduced Eddie Vedder to his band members for a guest spot on the song Hunger Strike. They then formed Pearl Jam.

Tina Guo is an Chinese-American cellist & Erhuist who's internationally known for her crossover music. She's done the cello work for a LOT of movie soundtracks, including Sherlock Holmes, Ironman 2, Inception, Hangover II, Fast Five, Pirates of Caribbean, Dunkirk. Her music can also be heard on TV shows like Vikings, Sleepy Hollow, CSI NY, Mentalist, and Family Guy.

Definitely do more of both. Can’t ever go wrong with Serj, a lot of his solo stuff is quite different from his work with SOAD. You can tell he’s really enjoyed it so much more than his final years with SOAD before their hiatus. And Tina is damn talented on the cello. She’s played/toured with a large number of people, performed solos for numerous scores (film and video games), created the theme for Wonder Woman, etc.

Serj Tankian has one of those voices which are not-quite once in a generation, but certainly rare in general and particularly unusual in rock music. Probably the only other artist who comes immediately to my mind with such a vocal range and diverse influences would be Freddie Mercury.

Serj has done some recordings of traditional Armenian music with his father. Definitely worth checking out. Hearing the traditional melodies/harmonies makes his vocals, both solo and from System make a lot more sense.

The song is about the consequences of severing yourself from the earth to live in space. The novelty cannot repair the trauma, because what you have done is replace an organic environment with something artificial. I really like the lyric, "spinning varieties of psycho plastic nonchalant, star glazers at best". I feel like it portrays an inauthentic lifestyle. It's plastic, fake, inorganic, and if we were to live in space, we couldn't interact with it in the same way. We would be living in a manmade environment, looking at the stars through windows. Windows are traditionally glazed, hence "star glazers". When "at best" is added, it's pointing out mankind's hubris. He is saying that even if we can survive in space, at what cost to our descendants? "Children let's pretend we can see everything, but we can't. I can make the pain go away, no you can't." When taking into account Serj's family history, and early life, it's easy to see where the emotion comes from. This grandparents escaped genocide by fleeing Armenia, and settling in Lebanon. His parents made the same choice when Lebanon erupted in civil war, and his family came to the states. I think he is using his experience of being cut off from a native homeland, to warn of the dangers of cutting ourselves off from the earth entirely

There's a wide spreaded myth on the internet, that he is a classically trained singer or an opera singer. But that's not true, he himself debunked that in a Kerrang interview. He was a lyricist, writer, composer, instrumentalist, but he never saw himself as a singer. He was thrown into it with System of a down, developed his own "techniques" and ruined his voice, because nothing he tried was professionally trained. It was all autodidactive Despite that, he is a natural talent with an awesome, unique voice. One of kind. He's kinda mimicking opera, it's not the real thing, but that's okay for me.

I like just about everything Serj does, but this one while being very well composed just doesn't do it for me. You should really check out Empty Walls, Sky is Over, Praise the Lord and Pass the Ammunition, Borders Are, Blue, Falling Stars are all amazing as well as the entire Albums they are on.

Sorry but moonhearts was cringy sure Serj sounded good in some parts but him doing some of the parts were awful and very cringy. Tina Guo though was amazing the entire time. Electric cello sounds amazing!
