Sad that we lost another one of the greats recently. Tina Turner was the "Queen of Rock 'n' Roll". She spanned over 6 decades of music. She started out with her husband Ike & had some great hits such as "Proud Mary", "It's Gonna Work Out Fine", "River Deep-Mountain High" & "Nutbush City Limits". But she had even bigger hits when she went solo such as "Better Be Good To Me", "Private Dancer", "The Best", "We Don't Need Another Hero", "Typical Male", "I Don't Wanna Fight", "GoldenEye", "It's Only Love" (duet with Bryan Adams) etc.

Tina Turner was around 44 years old in this video. She was one of a very few singers who sang almost every note in a vibrato - this is one of the reasons why she had such a unique boice and gave her that signature sound. She sings just one note and you'll KNOW that's her. Do yourself a favour and check out her live performance of "Proud Mary" at the Wembley Arena in England in 2000 - she was 61 years old and absolutely rocked the place down. She was both a vocal and performing powerhouse.

It's odd at age 69 to find that the films and musical greats I grew up with are unknown to so many people today. Now with so much noise it's like panning for gold to find these nuggets. Watching you and other young reactors discovering these classics makes me smile and gives me hope that the genius of so much music from the 1960's through the '80's won't be forgotten. Thank you for opening your mind Michael. Music is the common denominator that brings the world together.

Tina Turner (born Annie Mae Bullock in Nutbush, Tennessee) had a career in rock music dating back to 1957 at which time she was 17 years old. Her early career began with her association, and later marriage to Ike Turner, also a legendary figure in rock 'n' roll history. Her stormy marriage to Ike (a brutal spouse abuser) is told in a movie with the same name as this song (starring Angela Bassett as Tina). There is so much music history surrounding her career that it cannot be quickly encapsulated in a YT comment. I encourage you to read about her life, or to watch the movie. This video (from 1983) was in the early years of MTV and was the launching pad for the second stage of her career which first required a legal battle to gain control of the name 'Tina Turner' which belonged to Ike. In this walk around New York, notice how often the camera is showing her legs, for which she was famous. Her live performances of 'Proud Mary' show them off to the max. I was going to give you a link to one of the many videos of this song on KZbin, but I'll let you search on your own (or perhaps someone else may wish to provide a favorite.)

Oh, my goodness, you have only just scratched the surface with the iconic Tina Turner! My 3 favorites are, "River Deep-Mountain High"--from her early years with Ike and then from the 80's "The Best" and "It's only Love" with Bryan Adams. She had an amazing career and survived an abusive situation with her ex-husband to then make it on her own. She has an incredible voice! She was also known for wearing wigs to perform, hence the big hair in this video. She was a tiny person, with a huge voice!! 😊

I didn’t really know who Tina Turner was before her “comeback” in 1982. I heard her cover of Al Green’s Let’s Stay Together on the radio and I was mesmerized. I couldn’t believe that she took one of my favorite songs and turned it into a completely different, yet just as good, experience. That single was one of the first records I purchased myself and I played it over and over again. I couldn’t get enough and she just kept on giving through the years. Such joy. What a magical singer/performer/person she was. She was inspirational in every way. Very few people have her kind of talent, but to reinvent herself in her forties, push through new poverty and hardship to ultimately prevail as a superstar is unique. Backstory is important to understanding, but it’s the music - her voice and passion - that make her one of the all time great artists.

She's from the 60's, the 80's and beyond. The hair is a wig, and her look is of a street walker in the 80's from New York City, in this video. Hence the songs, What's Love Got to Do With it, and Private Dancer. She has an incredible life story, along with her iconic comeback story in her fourties so you should watch the motion picture about her life, Whats Love Got to Do With it with Angela Bassett and Lawrence Fishburn, taken from her autobiography I, Tina.

Unusual to see Tina with a hemline that low. edit: Tina was first credited on a single release in 1958 and most recently in 2020. She was the first artist to make the UK Top 40 in seven consecutive decades. 12 Grammys, three songs in the Grammy HoF, two time Rock HoF inductee, Kennedy Center Honoree and perhaps her biggest honor - in 2022 Mattel released a Tina Turner Barbie.

The 'Working Class Man'Jimmy Barnes and Johnny Diesel rockers famously sang with Tina when they rerecorded her song 'The Best' for New South Wales Rugby League in 1992, retitling their version '(Simply) The Best' it became their theme song. She also sang CCR cover Proud Mary, just a few of her songs. She was a due of Ike and Tina Turner but after an abusive marriage she went solo. She just passed away.

The album this song was on, "Private Dancer", was pretty much a comeback one for her in 1984. The title track is pretty good as well. There's also "Better Be Good to Me", which was also included on the soundtrack of the then-popular TV show "Miami Vice". Also close to this time, she did the duet "It's Only Love" with Bryan Adams.

Turner was born Anna Mae Bullock on November 26, 1939 in Brownsville, Tennessee, the youngest daughter of Floyd Richard Bullock and his wife Zelma Priscilla (née Currie). The family lived in the nearby rural unincorporated community of Nutbush, Tennessee, where her father worked as an overseer of the sharecroppers at Poindexter Farm on Highway 180; she later recalled picking cotton with her family at an early age. Her 1973 hit single "Nutbush City Limits" (No. 22 Pop, No. 11 R&B), penned by Turner, reached No. 1 in Austria, No. 4 in the UK, and the top 5 in several other countries. It was certified Silver by the BPI for selling a quarter of a million in the UK. As a result of her success, she received the Golden European Record Award, the first ever given, for selling more than one million records of "Nutbush City Limits" in Europe. Peace out.

This song came out in 1984. It was her first album, now known as her comeback album, since leaving a terribly abusive marriage to musician Ike Turner,a coke addict. You absolutely have to see the movie What's Love Got To Do With It to understand the length of her career and the trauma she went through to get to where the Album is released. Just know she had many hits afterward and movie roles too.

Should I pretend that I listened to every Tina song every day, all day, or should I just tell the truth? I didn't listen to every Tina song every day all day. I don't know the vast majority of her stuff. I know she did Proud Mary. I know she was very talented, and I know some things about her life, and I feel a loss now that she's gone. I felt the same loss when Joan Rivers passed. I wasn't a huge fan of hers either, but I felt weird after it happened all the same. So sorry you hadn't heard of the queen of rock and roll. She was immensely popular around the world, especially here in Australia. You missed out on so much great music. She didn't want to record this song which resurrected her career. The Australian songwriters finally convinced her and the rest is history. She hired an Australian manager who promised to make her a star and he kept his word. She sold out stadiums and toured the world. You must react to her doing a duet with Australian legend Jimmy Barnes on "Simply The Best". She spent the last decade of her life in Switzerland and became a Swiss citizen.

I like Tina's rock songs the best. In line of Steamy windows, Show some respect, Better be good to me, Addicted to love. etc. Her other songs are great too. Albums are great, but nothing can compare to her live performances. They are top of the world. DVDs Barcelona 1990 Foregn affair tour, Amsterdan 1996 Wildest dream tour, Wembley 1999 One last time Twenty-four-seven tour. Amsterdam is my favourite.

Tina was definitely one of a kind. Check out the hit Proud Mary with her ex Ike Turner. Also, one of my favorite songs of hers is Private Dancer. Listen and feel the feelings that pour out of Tina.
